2006 in the WWE was a wild time. I loved the product at this time. Every week whether it was RAW or Smackdown, it did not matter. We were tuned in and we were excited. Stars like John Cena, Edge, Triple H carried the RAW side, and stars like Undertaker, Kurt Angle, Rey Mysterio held it down on Smackdown. In April of that year we got WrestleMania 22. This Mania was just awesome. A night I will never ever forget. Lets go back to 2006 and take a look at WrestleMania 22 from 2006

I know right as a kid you understood what Cena was, he was like the military guy that cares about the industry he's in and just wants to be the best. I think 06 was the year his Character was truly at it's best. It wasn't Superman or Thuganomics. It was Soldier Boy Cena that was taking respect.

Well that night I was so depressed I couldn’t watch edge and foleys hardcore match or undertakers coffin match etc . The short answer to the title is storytelling. The stories were clear, concise and straightforward. They all made sense and they all culminated at the biggest show of the year. The wrestling was top notch. Top to bottom, there was not one bad match on the card. WM22 is one of the best WrestleManias ever.

Completely Agree. I mean I would skim the Playboy Pillow Fight (But as a kid I thought it was hot) and the Booker T vs Boogieman match would've only worked if Booker ate the worms and then beat Boogieman, but it was more the pee break and funny match so it was much more forgivable. But yer, the unfortunate thing about Mania's is that I'm never alway 100% happy about a match happening when I'd rather see something else. But with Mania 17, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 30. It was just a great card top to bottom with even a bad match coming off looking like it had a purpose.

Wrestlemania 22 to me is up there with 17, 19 and 3. It was just so special to me as it was my first one I watched and Rey winning was just special, with Cole saying "Dreams do come true." I do hear a lot of people didn't really think Rey should've been champion, but they are absolutely wrong, this was a time where Eddie, Benoit and even Edge could become champion. That's what makes the Ruthless Agression Era so special, it was an era where everyone got a chance to shine. And to me Rey's moment was a beautiful story that his kid fans could love like a Disney film. People will say Eddie's win was special, well Rey's win to me, was what Eddie's was and what Benoit's was to their fans. Either way thanks for finally getting to this one man. Mania 22 is an all-time great and while 2006 has more critics than it's worth, you understand as a fan there was no time to be more hyped or into WWE as they every day gave you your money's worth like it was a mini attitude era.

And what was crazy about wm 22 it was set up for a lot of dream matches of what could have been like eddie guerrero vs hbk, kurt angle vs undertaker, orton vs batista, mcmahon vs bret hart but a lot of plans were scrapped due to injuries, refusing to do it, and of course Eddies passing RIP. But still end up being one of the best wms of all time in my opinion and still my personal favorite wm of all time

Oh big time I remember later in the year I watched Judgement Day because I ran into the DVD while out shopping with my mom and begged her to get it. Perfect timing because Judgement Day just happened a few days ago and I was able to watch it before that weeks Smackdown. I also remember watching the Great American Bash 2006 which was the first PPV I ever asked to watch because I wanted to see Batista return, The Punjabi Prison match and Rey vs King Booker. My kid heart was crushed when Chavo murdered him with that chair lol. My Grandad and My Uncle both fell asleep during the show lol

@@Jnwboss So true that Judgement Day match Rey had with JBL was great and then when he lost at TGAB it was like a shot to the heart cause Rey was like the John Cena of Smack-Down to many. It also hurt so much when he lost the I Quit match on Smack-Down. So glad he's back and making stars out of Hurberto, Andrade, Angel and eventually his own son Dominic.

What’s weird is I really was into WWE early into the attitude era. For some reason in 2002-03 I just quit watching. I got SVR 06 for Christmas and got really into WWE again...it was an awesome period. I think we were on the verge of a new era and it was awesome. Although I think they didn’t follow up after 2006 on the promise, still a great year

When I was a kid I used to hear those rumors of Eddie vs HBK and in those water-cooler conversations I had with my friends one of them even told me that Eddie was growing out his hair to do a segment leading up to the match where he will try to present himself as the Mexican Heartbreak Kid putting his hair in a ponytail mocking Shawn Michaels. And the more I grow the more I actually believe they were going to add that in.

Many of you WWE fans out there have still yet come to grips with the reality that John Cena LITERALLY had to carry the industry on his back right after Stone Cold & The Rock's departure frum the business. Fun fact as well, only Stone Cold has garnered more money for the WWE than Cena; that's why he's so highly rated and respected. Love or hate him, he did more for the business frum 2006 to 2016 than any other wrestler throughout that time period. During Cena's tenure, many fans use to beg for him to leave...and now that he has now become a part-timer, y'all have started to value when he was the FACE of the industry. John Cena will forever be my favourite wrestler of ALL time, no matter what. #TheRuthlessAggressionEra

Shinedown’s song and that crowd don’t get enough credit for making this Mania amazing. The triple threat match for the title would’ve been a 5 star match if Mysterio didn’t botch so many moves. But the Foley and Edge match is my favorite Mania match of all time.

The main reason why Cena got booed at this point is super easy to understand that no one really talks about. Essentially it’s what happened to HBK at Survivor Series 96. He was essentially being booked like Triple H in 2003 where he was just mowing through everyone and on a never-ending killing streak. The problem is that this typically only works for a heel because you want to know who could finally beat him, especially when they always find a way to win (aka JBL). Austin never had the crowd turn on him because he didn’t always overcome the odds and made us want him to rise to the occasion. Also, how do make the greatest technical wrestler look incompetent at No Way Out 2005 when the next month he put on the match of the year with HBK?
