@Awesome Sauce The fact that they would sacrifice any real progression or booking storytelling for the sake of crazy moments isn't a good thing. Moments stick out at the time, but they don't last forever. Especially if you keep repeating and remaking those moments over and over. One huge crazy brawl to hype up the animosity? That's good and effective, the crowds would love it. But when you keep doing it without waiting for the effect of the last to fade? It gets diminishing returns, as goes with any story device or big spot.

As a fan, her body language and the way she touches his face/chin after he says it is what we'd come to expect from her over the years; but, to Booker, that was probably a moment where he felt comforted in spite of his slip up. She was able to do both in the heat of the moment, and without deviating from who she was on screen. What ruined nWo was freakin' everyone was in it! How is it "special" if no one is NOT in it?!
@undertakernumberone13 жыл бұрын
@Joey Torrieri however, Unlike DX, Horsemen, Evolution etc. the nWo couldn't have stuck at 3 to 5 members. It was booked as an invading company, hence stuff like "WCW/nWo" branding. It needed to be larger... But the execution after the intial period was lackluster. Just some rough fantasy booking, not accounting for backstage politicking or personal demons: Sting beats Hogan clean at Starrcade (maybe with some WCW guys warding off a NWO interference). This causes Hogan to start loosing it. Becoming more and more erratic, blaming (parts of) the NWO for letting him down, mainly the Outsiders and Syxx, and MAYBE whoever else you want to put into the Wolfpack. After a few weeks this causes the formation of the Wolfpack, maybe with Hogan either having the NWO turn on the guys or Hogan wanting to "fire" them from the NWO just for Hall and Nash to tell him "You wanna fire us? Good Joke! Because what we wanted to tell YOU: We're out!" Or something like that. Hogan also gets more and more driven to regain the World Heavyweight Championship... and anytime he fails, his mood gets worse. More and omre cracks int he NWO, members defect etc. Meanwhile other members try to make "the best" off it by kissing up to Hogan even more (basically like Micah Bell in RDRII with Dutch), Horace Hogan for example. But then it happens... with some help, Hogan dethrones the current Champion (in case Sting lost it to Flair or somebody else for example), and, for example, Norton and Bugwwell win the WCW Tag Team Titles. Maybe also a TV or US Title win. It Looks like the NWO will run wild again. Hogan feels more powerful than ever, his hybris running wild and even offers the Wolfpack, or at least Nash, Hall and Syxx, to come back... if they grovel enough and are content with playing third fiddle after Hogan, Norton, Bagwell etc. Needless to say, they laugh it off. NWO numbers swell again, when people who never "officially" left the NWO hurry to return etc. And then it all. comes. crashing. down. On the same show, be it TV or PPV, Goldberg curbstomps Hogan for the Big Gold Belt, the Tag Team Champions are beaten (maybe by the Wolfpack? If so, they show up in the ME and beat off an NWO interference attempt), US/TV champion is dethroned. And the NWO is as good as done. However, Hogan doesn't quite throw the towel just yet. Diminished to just the amount of members as the wolfpack has, Hogan blames EVERYTHING of the, and every setback of the NWO on Hall and Nash. One last match. The remnants of hte NWO VS Wolfpack in an Elimination Tag Team match at a PPV. NWO Looses and is done for. Maybe with a "Looser Leaves Town" rule or whatever to get them out for a whil.e Sting's Starrcade victory would've started the demise of the NWO, and WCW's Next Big Thing Goldberg shatters the stable... and the Wolfpack puts the final nail into the coffin. The(NWO) Wolfpack could continue on for a while.

WCW's handling of Luger's redemption story was one of its biggest triumphs of this era. And in true WCW fashion, it became one of their biggest mistakes. Luger was the one who questioned Sting and caused WCW to lose him for months. He then quit at the end of War Games. He was the loser. He became WCW's top guy, the guy who'd fight the nWo all on his own. And even though he'd usually lose those fights, he regained his respect.Then he beats Hogan for the title, fights off the nWo in the process and loses it 6 days later. The ultimate story was Sting vs. Hogan so Luger couldn't have a long title run. But Luger could have won the title earlier and held it for a month or 2. Or, he could have just won it at Road Wild, held it for a month and had Hogan win it back at Fall Brawl. Fall Brawl was the same PPV where the nWo destroyed the horsemen. So they could have done that and had Hogan cheat to beat Lex, regain the title and had the nWo take him out after. At that point, Sting would have even more of a reason to be motivated to beat Hogan, seeing the horsemen and Luger destroyed. Would have created even more heat heading into Starrcade...which WCW still would have screwed up.

Definitely should review the ppv after this Slamboree 97. The promos leading up to that are awesome. Nash cuts the best promo of his career leading up to that show on Flair and Piper. The real heat with Syxx and Flair was there. Plus at the end of the ppv Tony says when those guys wear up someone should tell them tradition does not bite.

They should have Harlem Heat vs Steiners and change it to a #1 Contenders match and have a triple threat with Luger, Giant and add Nash.

Benoit and Malenko wrestling each other is one of the brightest WCW memories I have. "Fight Forever" is about right.

Crazy thing is, the Kliq members eventually used the freebird rules (dubbed Wolfpac rules long before the faction) with Syxx

I'm surprised that Hulk Hogan didn't respond to THAT promo with "that's my word, BROTHER"

WCW wasn't as bad as it would get in 2000- 2001 there was alot of good and bad in WCW in 1997.

My main thought about the Benoit/Malenko match is it just shows how much WWE dropped the ball with Malenko. Those two should have feuded over the IC title after WM 2000.

Also, an Angle/Malenko feud is a huge missed opportunity.

The Kayfabe Commentaries "Most Botched Moments" video regarding Bookers' Freudian slip is an absolute classic. DDP and New Jacks' reactions get me every time. Do yourself a favour and watch that video after finishing Brians' review.

The funny thing here is that the Benoit/Malenko "he wasn't supposed to be here" thing and Nash/Steiner are my lasting memories of this show. I didn't even realize this was the show with THAT promo until I saw the thumbnail lol

What I always found a bit hypocritical, was when it came out Hogan had said the word, nearly 10 years prior, Booker T and so many others simply forgot or glossed over this incident. I mean it is what it is, but don't act like anyone is perfect.

I share the same sentiments. I can't watch Benoit and Nancy on screen together without feeling a type of way. Also any shot to Benoit's head gives me the same feeling like at 15:30
