What makes BL so interesting is he’s so super shy in real life but as soon as he gets on the stage his extrovert personality comes out. Before the final performance there are several pre parties (London, Milan etc) This gives the performer the opportunity to practice and connect with the fans. Hence then all singing back. Baby Lasagne’s growth through the process was really amazing to watch.

Hi from Croatia, and thank you for commenting. There is some elements of istrian (part of Croatia) culture in clothing, rhitam, and change of tonality in breakdown. This song is funny interpretation of sirious problem of 1/10 croatian people recently left our country in search for better life. I am shure it si now hymn for our imigrants. But of most importance for me is fact that he alone with help from his friends and family was write, produce and perform this song and made official video. Startin from reserve in Dora (domestic competition for ESC), and finish as second in EU, and first counting only public votes. Story of underdog succeede with real domestic product. And i just prance with it. 😁

In a nutshell, Marko (BL) played around with some folk motifs from his (and mine 😁) region of Croatia (Istra), and the istrian scale wich is on the UNESCO heritage list and slapped plenty of Rammstein, Kraftwerk and NIN on it. Quite simple, but it created something new, exiting and infectious. ❤ BTW, love the song snippet on the outro!

The song addresses the very serious problem that Croatia together with other southern/Eastern European countries suffer from of young people leaving to find jobs in wealthier countries to the north. It is an existential issue wrapped into a catchy song that proved the most popular amongst the audience, but the judges decided otherwise.

Hi i'm Croatian. Yes theres a lot cultural references in this song. Rim tim tagi dim doesn't mean anything it's just sound of Istrian instruments and melody ( singer is form Istria a part od Croatia). His outfit is traditional lace combined with modern rock outfit. This song is actually realy sad, it's about young boy who is leaving his little village to found a better life in the City . He doesn't want to leave and he is sad, he will miss his familly and cat. This song was 2nd in Eurovision contents this year, he should have won becouse he was people favourite but the jury decided he wouldn't winn cause of the policy wars and sfuff, long story short he was 2nd. But we dont care and we are so proud of Marko❤
@neolex0013 ай бұрын
No... That's not why he didn't win. The music industry judges valued Nemo's entry constructively more valid; masculine rap verses feminine opera in a song about being non-binary? Brilliant! Regardless, let's all be grateful that Israel didn't win, for those ' policy wars and sfuff' reasons ;)
@marija59493 ай бұрын
@@neolex001 no one cares about Nemo being non binary or whatever. I didn't like the Code and opera part was annoing. Slimane was 10 lightyears better singer than Nemo and Ukraine was brilliant this year , i still don't understood why Nemo got that much jurry points. And also Nemo was 5th by televote that also mean something... Last year Croatia send anty war opera by Let3 and that floped by jury and not by the Public. BL said: RIM TIM TAGI DIM is a made-up word word for a made-up dance from a made-up village. But nonetheless, it's a story about a young man from Croatia that leaves it's country because he has no future. It was the perfect Eurovision song because all those young men (and women) from the Balkans that are living in Northern European countries could relate and voted. You can't vote for the country you live in, but you can vote for your country if you live abroad. Many people watch Eurovision, but most of them do not vote. In the 2-3 months before Eurovision, from the release of the song, you need to build up a fan community that votes for you. It helps, if you already have your diaspora, your LGBTQ-Community, your religious or political community (that why Israel always gets many votes) etc. It's a very catchy song and BL is a very cool guy. Like Bambie Thug and Nemo, he wrote, composed and produced the song - alone, the others had teams. It was authentic. He managed to claim many of the votes. That's how Eurovision should be and I'm happy those songs did well this year.

A lot of young people in Croatia are leaving small cities for larger ones due to a lack of job opportunities. I, for example, moved to London. Although I miss my country, traditions, and people, I had to seek opportunities elsewhere. This is a big problem in Croatia at the moment. As he say, "there's no going back, anxiety attacks.'' this song is sad and lot of young croatians can relate.

Awesome reaction! Just wanna point out that what you watched was actually his semi-final rehearsal performance. There was some slight differences between this and the actual live semi-final performance. For instance, during the dance break, the audience wore bracelets that would lit up in multiple colors during this part. It had an amazing impact on the whole performance, seeing them dancing along (with their arms up and down). It didn't happen in this rehearsal performance. Another thing is that the audience mic was tuned way down. During the live performance you could hear them WAY better during the WOOAH parts and it sounded amazing. And generally there was a lot of camera and mic improvements in the live performance (and it even got better for the grand final performance). Just wanted to point these things out in case you'd want to check out the other videos! They can be found on the official Eurovision channel (but they might be geoblocked). Personally I prefer his grand final performance since everything was perfected!

I love how John Oliver described the Eurovision Song Contest on his show Last Week Tonight back in 2014: "There is a thing called the Eurovision Song Contest. It happens once every year and is simply the craziest thing that you will ever see. Basically, thirty-seven European countries sublimate thousands of years of ethnic and religious tensions into a series of bizarre three-minute song-tastrophes."

Honestly this year's eurovision was amazing musically. Like, behind the scenes it was a shipshow, but the music was amazing this year. There were a lot of amazing acts that didn't make it past the semi-final, despite absolutely having final energy. I'd kinda recommend you to react to every single one. Maybe especially Finland, Spain, Armenia, Lithunia, San Marino, Czechia, Australia, Ukraine, Netherlands (oh damn yes the Netherlands). Actually really just watch every single one. Lots of fun to have there. And if you want to delve into history, i'd recommend some Classics like Måneskin, Lordi, Stefan Raab, Go_A, Daði Freyr, Käärijä... And Verka Serduchka. Verka is possibly the most Eurovision Eurovision ever got.

Thank you for reacting, I love watching people react to this song. There is also an incredible studio version that is totally different. You were right about ethnic elements, he is from Istria and you can hear a bit of folk music in the melody. Costumes were also inspired by traditional clothes and probably the biggest hit were tablecloths, you can see them on drums, guitar, his sleeves, band masks. When we were growing up, handmade tablecloths were part of every household, usually made by grandmas, they were displayed all over the houses, even on top of TVs 😄This made people all over Croatia and region pull out granny's tablecloths once again. And now even Baby Lasagna merch has crocheted cats. Liked your song at the end of the video 👍

Not from Croatia, but from Serbia, which is almost the same :) (watch people come for me in the comments lmao) Basically the song is about young people leaving their homes for better opportunities abroad (which is generally a Balkan problem but I feel it's more spread out than we think). It's also amazing how much of charisma he's got on stage given that he's an anxious little bean otherwise :) And also, it was his first time ever performing in Dora (Croatian national final, basically where they choose their song for Eurovision) and he was supposed to be a substitute. Someone else pulled out and he got in, the rest is history :)

❤❤❤BL is the only one at ESC who wrote the music, text and arrangement for his song. His text, which talks about growing up and leaving his parents' home, is extremely witty and very deep. Everyone can recognize themselves. And the story of BL is by far the most beautiful story of ESC. The unknown young man, who wrote songs for others, could not make a living from music. Then he wrote two songs for himself, IG BOI and Dont hate yourself... The songs are excellent, but they were not successful. As a last attempt, he sent his song Rim tim tagi dim to Dora - the Croatian selection for the ESC song. And- he did not enter the final. He decided to work as a copy writer. Then they inform him that one of Dora's participants has canceled, which never happened, and he is performing as a reserve in the final. He has never appeared on stage as a performer before! Unlike the others, he only had a month to prepare. And he wins overwhelmingly with 247 votes from the audience (the runner-up had 27 votes) - no one has ever won so overwhelmingly on Dora. No support, no money! He shoots the video with his fiancee, friends, relatives, with his grandmother (with whom he kneads the dough in the video), and his fiancee's father films the video. The dancers who performed with him at the ESC in Sweden are also amateurs. He released only three songs and almost won the ESC. After the ESC, although he did not win, thirty thousand people, the prime minister, the mayor and many prominent Croats spontaneously welcomed him in Zagreb. He receives an award of 50,000 euros from the government because he represented his homeland worthily. He donated that money to two children's oncology hospitals. His first concert was sold out in 4 minutes. In short, it's Baby Lasagne, Marko Purišić - one of the most beautiful Eurovision stories, the realization of a Croatian dream.

There were quite a few girl bops, radio-friendly pop songs, too, because that's what the national juries like. But other songs are aiming for high points from televoters (the public), and usually these are the most out-of-the-box ones mixing multiple non-pop genres. Please keep on reacting Eurovision. It is live, and this year final had 26 competing countries in the final, proceeded by 2 semifinals. The show can be up as many as 4 hours....:) The song must be an original, max 3 minutes long. and the vocals must be live without any autotune etc. The istruments are not live due to the fact that stagecrew only have 50 sec to completely transform the stage bettween entries. A maximum nr of people on stage are 6. It has been going on every year since 1956 and was originally an idea for Europe to come together after beeing torn apart by world war 2. :)
