The Speedy doesn't look too big for you at all. I agree with you in all points though I would like to add that it is also a matter of taste. Back in the day small watches were very common; then the trend changed to bigger watches and now we are at mid sizes of 36-44mm.

Great review. Love your taste in watches! I think colour also can play a part in how it looks on your wrist. A white watch face looks larger than a darker colour.

One aspect most people dont acknowledge is the caseback! How large is the surface which actually touches your wrist? The bigger the surface, the larger feels the watch. But if the surface is too small it gets shaky... It's also related to the height of watch ;=)

totally! Usually diver watches has caseback that is tapered to allow our wrist to sink into the watch back, hiding the case back, making it thinner!

Good video! One thing that is decisive as well is the watch band. A rubber band helps a larger watch wear smaller. A bracelet helps a smaller watch wesr larger. Ps. 4 great watches you have there (i ghought the FOIS was 39mm, not 40

Good point. I am almost exclusively a strap guy myself, so I tend to forget how bracelets affect the look of a watch. The FOIS is technically 39.7mm. I rounded up.

Good points on case and dial sizes relative to overall look. Portal sized sized wristwatches seemed to be direct result of the "bigger must be better" marketing of the last 20 years but I was surprised that this fashion trend progressed as long, and as far, as it did. With a 6.5 inch wrist I was on the sidelines unless they offered a 34mm model.

Really glad you posted this video, I feel more comfortable with a watch no more than 41mm totally agree with you reference overlapping lugs on a small wrist, just doesn't look right to me. I find chronograph type watches are a problem for me so try to look for less chunky watches ideally no larger than 10 - 12mm which I have only found with Seiko, Citizen and Orient watches so far but have seen some Rotary ones and cheaper Sekonda watches. Look forward to seeing more reviews of perhaps the Solar powered Orient Neo 70's Panda range Chronographs if you have any, I own two of them and think they are great watches.

@@TheCriticalGentleman you keep talking about too big, but not much mention of what is too small. if a watch is 70mm lug to lug, it still doesn't overhang my wrist. for a watch to look right i need it at least 50mm and 20mm thick. i also like heavier watches, it just feels better, 400 to 500g is ideal.

I like to wear slightly undersized natos on watches with 20 or 22mm lug widths. So an 18mm strap on a 20mm or a 20mm on a 22mm lug. have a 6.5” wrist. I feel the narrower strap makes the watch look like it fits better. People don’t like that Connery “Bond fit” but I like it.

My watches tend to ride to the left edge of my wrist (I wear watches on my left hand.). However the speidel twist-o-flex bands tend to stay nicely on the mid-point. My wrist is about 7" What would you suggest for ideal diameter or lug-to-lug?
@chrisgilligan4968
@chrisgilligan4968 4 жыл бұрын
You could easy pull off anything 52mm or less lug to lug....use some of the other suggestions in the vid if you want to make a large watch appear smaller on your wrist. You could even go bigger than that if you like the look of big watches....all depends on your taste.

For years I had a Citizen eco-drive with a 38mm crystal, Not being a watch person I went on line and found a similar looking eco-drive with a 41.2mm crystal. To my mind that was only 1/8 of an inch bigger than the watch I had for 15 years. When it was received it was enormous even on my 9 1/2 inch wrist. I had to buy a velcro band so it would fit my large wrist I am not comfortable with a watch this size and will gift it to a nephew as I have now bought another watch the right size. SIZE IS IMPORTANT.

Probably all about perspective and what we’re used to seeing.. which is why i dislike the bigger watch trends, everyone are going to look at my “in my opinion” much more comfy, but smaller sized watch and say it looks small because the new norm is larger than it used to. You could say that i probably shouldn’t care, but in truth most people probably care how we’re percieved by others, atleast i know i do... sadly.

It’s hilarious the way the watches have gone. 42mm is to big even for a diver. Granted it’s easier to see under water if you semi blind. But it looks stupid on normal sized people under 6.4. The SKX is a prime example people think the skx007 looks cool on them but it looks like a house on their wrist.
