In the previous video, we touched on using the news media including Editorial as an informational tool to achieve your organization’s communication goals. One useful writing material is a feature article. Features are more in-depth than traditional news stories and go beyond providing the most important facts. The purpose of these stories is to provide a detailed description of a place, person, idea, or organization.
Although reporters and editors classify features as news stories, they are not necessarily structured using the inverted pyramid style. Instead, features use storytelling devices to help the reader connect with the overall narrative and its central characters. Features are particularly common in magazine writing, although they frequently appear in other mediums.
This video would help you deepen and understand well in writing a feature article. Hope you learn something and dont forget to subscribe if you like the video :)

Explorable Paradise The world is full of mystery, and indescribable beauty, naturally. The breezy air that came from the sea soothes the mood of a newly awakened. The serenity of green grassland is a vitamin to our mentality. Masbate province is magnificent not only for its events but also for its beautiful scenery. Masbate is a place where beauty is everywhere. Masbate, Ticao, and Burias are the 3 major islands of the Masbate province. Few of those beautiful islands, beaches and resorts in Masbate Province: Burias Island: Animasola Island, Tinalisayan Islet and Sandbar, Sombrero Island; Ticao Island; Nagarao, Naboctot, Guin-awayan Islands (Placer, Masbate). Tinigban Beach(Aroroy), Palani Beach(Balud), Licuson Beach(Mobo), Buntod Sandbar and Reef Marine Sanctuary(Masbate City). Casa de Solidad Resort(Pio V. Corpus) and Grabi Laki Resort(Baleno). Animasola Island is known for its rock formations similar to Biri Island and its natural pool. A towering rock formation, clear blue waters, and a white sand beach that is truly amazing. Tinalisayan Island is very calming; a row of palm trees, cool ocean breeze, rock formation, fine white beach, and crystal clear waters. Sombrero Island got its name because of its shape when you see it from a certain distance. Its water is crystal and calming. Nagarao, Naboctot, Guin-awayan islands are beyond gifted with clean white sand, beautiful coral reefs filled with colorful underwater plants and animals, and a white sand bar. Resorts and beaches of Masbate Province are also worth visiting for its extraordinary beauty. Masbate is known as the ranch capital in the Philippines and is popular because of its annual rodeo. Masbate is like a land of festivals. Rodeo Masbateno, Corn Festival, and Lapay Bantigue Dance Festival. Rodeo Festival was conceived in 1992 as a way of uplifting the local cattle industry. It was started by MAKUSOG, a group of ranchers and businesspeople of Masbate, who formed the Rodeo Masbateño Foundation. The event has taken place every summer since 1993 in the province of Masbate, held every 12th to 17th of April, which is traditionally considered the “Cattle Country of the Philippines.” Every corner of the world is a paradise, and Masbate province would not ever be ranked last. Beautiful scenery and joyful events are found in the place of Masbate province. Nature is a gift that we will forever cherish. And nature is a home of peace. URSABIA, JESSEL M. BSED-ENGLISH II 1048

GOMA is now called BAGUMBAYAN A Barangay in Masbate where many claimed it is viscious but it is NOT. Bagumbayan was called "goma". In time, laborers used the place as a temporary cattle corral while the shippers waited for the vessel to transport the animals to Manila. A place where no people live but a place where people make their lives into living. In fact Goma is a place where you can’t find hope. But when transients constructed their homes near the shore and a community was established. And because of the people who worked hard to make this place safe and a place where people can make change and live life peacefully. Goma got it’s new name, the laborers later named the place Bagumbayan or New Town. Now that Goma became known for it’s abundant life, many people got interested to start living in that place seeing others nourished on what is given to them by Nature. Today, Bagumbayan became one of the prosperous Barangay in Masbate City. Bagumbayan is making their name known for being one of the great barangay in Masbate. Rebuilding themselves to show that Bagumbayaneño has it’s path to a great destination. Due to disuse, the word 'goma' was forgotten. Today, because of the influx of people, Bagumbayan is bursting at the seams, so to speak. Bagumbayan is making a change to progress and to deviate from erroneous doings. Bagumbayan is a safe place. A place of giving and helping others. BARRUN, GUILLERMO III H. BSED ENGLISH II SECTION 1048

RIVERA, MICHELLE, LUZA. BSED-ENGLISH III 1267

"Mystical Lamanok" A hidden, unspoiled, and undiscovered island.Isla Lamanok is composed of two islands connected by a shallow shifting sandbar.According to the native people, the name came from the island's figure. From a far ,it looks like two chickens(manok)facing each other. They said ,one is the cock and the other,is the hen.Another version of the story also talked about hearing chicken crows in the island on midnight and the island has no permanent residents due to the scarcity of fresh water so we don't think we can find any chicken roaming, scratching for food. The islands are located in the Visayan sea,in between Masbate and Cebu.It serves as a temporary shelter for tired fishermen and migratory birds. Literally, the island was far ,but it is visible when you see it from afar .It make's really in awe while on way to the island ,the turquoise water of the sea and the genuinely see the paradise under the sea.The Isla Lamanok is sluggishly divulging of it's natural beauty. The 'La Manok' is a Bisaya term that means "The Chicken-Less Island" in which the white sandbar connects the Hen and the cock.La Manok island is a pretty island that's still off the tourist radar. What this cloistered island can promise to every visitor who would soon go down their foot here is the stunning view of an area of water that speaks so much of it's innate beauty. The water was too clear that you can't resist the temptation of dousing yourselves.La Manok island is a perfect place for those that loves to explore the paradise under the ocean. So?What are you waiting for?!ARAT NA SA ISLA LAMANOK! Tuesday? It's Purge Day! Many of us had already seen The Purge. The movie about the annual event of allowing everything illegal for 24 hours. Well once upon a time, here in my barrio, Dalipe, our ancestors actually practiced it, not annually, but on every Tuesday. How wild is that? During a conversation on mealtime, my mother mentioned his cousin who would, and I quote, "never ever, ever, ever" gonna set foot on our barrio again. It was one fateful Tuesday when he was just casually taking a little 'men's room' at a certain tree (this is okay and normal at the boonies), when another guy shared his little 'men's room' (again, this is normal and acceptable). They were just doing their thing, when suddenly, someone casually came up, and stab the guy next to him. This terrified the soul out of my mom's cousin. He immediately run away and told everyone what happened. And to his surprise, the people were just like, "meh, he had it coming." My mother's cousin, was scarred for life, bless his soul. My mother also mentioned that around this time, it was already "toned down". One could only imagine the events that is not "toned down". My grandpa, on his younger days, tried to assassinate someone, but he was beaten by the timer. Yes. There's a time limit. It's only for 12 noon. Stabbing someone after 12 noon, equals to prison, it's 'unjust', they say. It's unacceptable and rude. This is making my head hurts. Whoever established this culture, made the rules and all, wherever you are, you need to find Jesus. There's also this grandpa from the mountains, who always come down every Tuesday just to get stabbed everytime. According to the residents here, that grandpa was a 'real bad boy' on his youth. That's the reason why he had lots of enemies. It doesn't stop him from going down to our barrio anyway. He's passed away now out of old age, not because of Purge Days. All the attempts failed. A real bad boy indeed. On the bright side, Tuesdays are also the day where people who live from the mountains, and farms, and islands, come to our barrio to exchange goods. It's also the day wherein huge income would enter our little barrio making our community prosper. The theme will always be festive and loud. There's lot of foods and new faces. Even cockfighting take place and some dancing. If somebody just happens to die, well... it's Tuesday. Purge Days, over the years, returned as Tuesdays, wherein trading of goods is all there is about. Especially now that the armed forces of the Philippines entered our barrio. It's been safer than ever. Let's just take a moment to realize the brutal and savage way of resolving personal conflicts the old people do here. Looking at these gnarly, wrinkly, shaking people and imagining their savage way of living, it's conflicting. One of these people tried to assassinate someone, and some of them survived the attempted assassination. They can barely hold their canes! You can't even have a proper conversation without raising your voice. Yet they have this wild, barbaric past behind them. If the current civilization failed to reach this land, purging must've been being practiced till now. The thought that it's not too far from the past given that my own parents personally experienced it, it's terrifying. This is just some weird way of living that people from the past considered as normal. Imagine how many more weird practices people around the globe once followed. Imagine after centuries passed, our great great grandchildren looked back at the past and thought how weird we lived our lives now compared to them. The world is truly a fascinating place. Happy purging everyone. CUAMBOT ESPER, Y. BSED ENGLISH III SECTION 1267

In a very start of our life our ancestors inheritance us the beliefs that we follow even now. It give us a leads to do the things that we need to do or we shouldn't do it. If we're going to talk about our culture they're so many that we can give and one of those is our dialect. Most of the people of Masbate speak Masbateño a language that is closely related to Hiligaynon and Capiznon. However, in various municipalities of the island, various other languages are spoken. In the vicinity of the town's of Cataingan, Palanas and Dimasalang, most residents speak Waray-waray. Also one of our culture saying "Po at Opo" to our grandparents or to the people who's elder on us to show our respect and good behavior. To learn good moral and social values and to become responsible citizens of the society. There are so much beliefs that we can use then and now and we can't replace it in just one clap. Because this is the inheritance that no one can value even the most expensive thing in the world. Culture can lead us to become a better person. It helps us to enhance our beliefs or even our faith in life. People in Masbate are modern and follow all the changes according to the modern era however they still in touch with their traditional and cultural values. "Viva pit senior! Viva santo niño De Masbate! Viva!" A more than 50 years old tradition of Masbateño was celebrating Sinulog or Viva sto. niño De Masbate . It happens during January 28 at the same tradition on that was celebrated by Cebu, and other neighboring places. Sinulog is one of the famous festival here in our barangay (Brgy. Pating Masbate City) , usually a parade on the street where the people wear their indigenous costumes and weapons, with a paint on their bodies by a black colors and different designs or arts that they wanted to draw in their faces. When parade is ongoing every people was shouting and dance together with the loud drumbeats. Santo Niño is the Sinulog Festival or Santo Nino Festival. It is an annual religious and cultural festival in Cebu. The festival is thought to be the first of the most well-known festivals in the Philippines. It is held in celebration of one of the country’s most famous historic relics: the Santo Niño de Cebú. This was the statue of the baby Jesus that was handed to the Rajah Humabon of Cebu by the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in 1521. And it was one of the most important events in the religious history of the Philippines as it paved the way to the birth of Christianity in the country. Festivals are an expressive way to celebrate glorious heritage, culture and traditions. They play an important role to add structure to our social lives, and connect us with our families and backgrounds. And lastly, Festivalz were our ancestors way to pass the rich culture, knowledge and traditions onto the next generation. RAYMUNDO, CLERJAN Z. BSED ENGLISH - II SECTION : 1048

Dimasalang: A place of abundance, and its glorious past Ayo, ayo! Marie was knocking on her neighbor's door to ask for some salt, because she forget to buy some for her "sinabawang turingan". While she was knocking, she recalled the history of how the people of her municipality way back then. Around 1875, only the municipalities of Palanas and Uson existed in the Southern portion of the mainland province of Masbate. Between these two (2) towns and along what is now called Naro Bay, was a busy fishing village where fish was given free by transient fishermen who came to fish on the shores of this bay. As the fish was abundant, so were people from different places who came to this place to engage in fishing. Eventually, the place came to be known as Pueblo Naro derived from the native word “NAARO” which means “could be asked without payment in return” This pueblo thrived into a fishing community and became the center of trade. However, bandits and pirates were attracted also to the place as many times the village was pillaged by the “pulajanes” or moro bandits. Consequent to the heavy attacks by the moros, Pueblo Naro soon became deserted and was completely abandoned that it was almost lost to memory except by the name of “Daan na Lungsod” which means “Old Town”. By its geographical situation of being in-between the Municipalities of Uson and Palanas, the new Naro was the source of boundary dispute of these towns. Jurisdiction of this place was alternately held by these two (2) towns depending upon the degree of unity of the constituents, support of the Cabeza de Barangay and bravery of the town executive. However, by 1897, the Municipality of Palanas gained an uninterrupted political control of Naro up to the establishment of the American Civil Government, where in Year 1902, the Municipality of Uson also extended its political control to the old legal boundary at Masisi River beyond Barrio Naro. After this historical event, the municipal council shortly moved for the renaming of Naro to Jose Rizal’s penname “Dimasalang” in cognizance and honor of the life and works of the great hero. Thus, the name of DIMASALANG for a municipality which prides itself with a rich and glorious past. Until today, the municipality continue to thrive with its magnificent tourist destination that offers a relaxing place. The small islet like Jamorawon, Magcaraguit, and Deagan, are the proof of the abundance of Dimasalang. Mark Christian C. Arma BSED-ENGLISH2 Section 1048

Visitors who have come From all over the philippines and beyond have been in awe of this breathtaking and amazing falls, it drops from 60 feet to it's base into a pool of cool clear water. It is a picture of grace and tranquility in the heart of nature. There are many wondrous waterfalls in the philippines Each waterfalls is different from each other. I've seen to many of them. From luzon, visayas to mindanao and here one unique waterfall in Masbate that I want to share With you. Masbate we had an awesome island hopping adventure in ticao island. It is one of the three major island ticao is also divided into four municipalities namely batuan, monreal, san fernando, san jacinto One of the destanations is the catandayagan falls in the town of san jacinto. Located at the western side of ticao Island, catandayagan falls is one of the most popular tourist spots and attraction in Masbate for it's breathtaking, amazing and unique sight.Accessible by boat, it can be reached via a one hour boat ride from Masbate city. Tourists can enjoy the cool water of catandayagan falls by having the boat dock right below the waterfalls, unfortunately, it's summer time when are visited it. The water that comes from the falls is not so strong, but still, we got to enjoy it's cool water What makes catandayagan falls, unique and one of a kind waterfalls in the philippines, is that the water that rushes down empties straight into the sea. Towering at around 60 feet this is the first time I've seen a waterfalls that falls directly to the open sea. But also the natural rock and water formations. And this island has its own potential to say that unique as we knew that this island is a treasure of Masbateños , and there is no word could describe the island but it's beauty and unique falls. HAMOS NA! SA MAYONG PAYONG MOUNTAIN PEAK PARK! Only those folk who stake going too far to behold the best view are the ones who possibly watch it. And the wonderful view from within appears after the toughest climb. If you're one of those folk whose looking for an additional itinerary and adventurous mountain trekking, you will not regret seeing this one. Mayong Payong Mountain Peak Park - an ecological park located at the Municipality of Mobo. It was also called Umbrella Hills or Mt. Mayong Payong. Mayong Payong Mountain Peak Park is the best place for trekking. Going there, it only takes 20 mins from the city proper to the Municipality of Mobo. Upon arrival, you have the freedom to choose whether to ride a motorcycle "habal-habal" locals name for motorcycles or to go on foot. But the best suggestion is to enjoy trekking. It takes 3.5 kilometers to reach the peak of the mountain, a tiring one, yeah, but you can enjoy the trek when you were with your friends. While trekking to reach the peak of the mountain, you wouldn't miss the cave there, it's not that wide but is very cool and the rock formations are amazing. In the midway of trekking, you can already see the magnificent scenery - the view of the city. Upon reaching the peak of Mayong Payong, all of the exhaustion in trekking will be paid off and it's so worth it. The place has a towering concrete view deck, some picnic tables, greeny and flowery surroundings perfect for picture takings, and endearing cottages made of concrete materials. The 360° view is so worth it. A jaw-dropping. The blue waters, blue sky, green mountains, and the fresh breeze of wind. Truly, the creation of Almighty God is heartwarming and overwhelming. It is also perfect for an overnight stay with their endearing cottages to witness the magnificent view of sunset and sunrise. It is also advisable for a camping ground. During the nighttime, it becomes chilly so you should bring thick blankets. No restaurant area, so you should bring your food, canned and packed foods are good. But no worries, they have a sari-sari store there that sells basic commodities. And bring your water because there's no overflowing water is available. They depend on solar electricity. And for sure, your overnight stay will be all worth it. "What a place. Very calm and serene. I highly recommend you hike with your friends and family here and have fun. All we do was hike early in the morning, around 6 a.m for the sunrise and you'll have the best view of Masbate City and Buntod Marine Sanctuary from the hilltop," AnT Known said. "Great climb and breathtaking view. Plants are well kept and facilities are constantly improving," Khalil Bigtas said. "Yung way papunta is a bit scary but after you reach the top, all the tiredness will get away, just ensure that you rode the bike na ikaw lang pasahero para safer," Tinay Badiday also said. Mayong Payong Mountain Peak Park is also a place for repentance - every Holy Week, many people from different places come to participate in the Stations of The Cross at Mayong Payong. Enjoying the magnificent view doesn't just end there. If you want another adventure, Mayong Payong falls is just another 2.5-3 kilometers to trek from the Mayong Payong park. Another tiring trek but it's another worthful adventure. Mayong Payong Mountain Peak Park was blessed with a 360° astonishing view. And truly, the wonderful view appears after the toughest climb. Buntod of Calanay Calanay is just a small barangay of the Municipal of Aroroy. And they have this tourist spot called "Buntod". Buntod is round, landscapes, a white sands, and surrounded by the sea. You can't see any trees and grasses living in this place. The sand is different and more beautiful than the sand of boracay beach. When you stand in the middle of the sand, you can see the stunning view of the blue water. Many people have already been there and they enjoyed the beauty of buntod. And if you are this kind of person who fond of traveling, I recommend you to visit buntod and enjoy the place. But you just need to ride on a big boat because it is faraway in the barangay. RODEO MASBATEÑO FESTIVAL: The Rodeo Masbateño Festival is an annual event which takes place in Masbate City that showcases skills in livestock handling, such as lassoing, wrestling, and riding cattle. Also included in the event are a fair and exhibitions and trade of cattle and horses. The event has taken place every summer since 1993 in the province of Masbate, which is traditionally considered the Cattle Country of the Philippines. The Rodeo Masbateño Festival was conceived in 1992 as a way of uplifting the local cattle industry. It was started by MAKUSOG, a group of ranchers and businesspeople of Masbate, who formed the Rodeo Masbateño Foundation. There had been a long tradition of cattle raising in the province, with some 81% of its land used for pasturing livestock, but at that point in time the industry was in a slump. With the support of the provincial governor Tony T. Kho, the first Rodeo was staged in 1993. Following this, it became an annual event that improved tourism as well as commerce in the region and increased the locals’ pride in their province’s unique identity and products. The highlight of the event is the rodeo competition itself. Men and women dress up in cowboy outfits to perform stunts like lassoing on foot and on horseback, livestock wrestling, casting down, load carrying, bull riding and whipping, the two-person carambola, and other activities related to the handling of livestock. These events draw people from the rest of the Philippines and around the world as well as locals. International cowboys and bull riders also participate in the competitions. YUTIGA, KEMBERLY D. Good night, Comandania Places, just like people, have stories to tell. Deeply rooted in these places is the richness of its history which is, unfortunately, slowly being disregarded and unvalued. More often than not, we forget to look back on how the dirt underneath our feet has been stepped on by people who existed way before we were born. The town of Mobo, Masbate shows the contrast between the past and the present. New buildings pop up, old ones are being upgraded, modern attractions prey on everybody’s time, and the bustling crowd goes on with their daily lives. However, just off the center of this developing town lies the ruins of an old Spanish watchtower - buried in dust and vines, long forgotten. Religions and conflicts During the 17th century, Mobo served as the seat of the Catholic Church. The Order of Augustinian Recollects (OAR) was a Catholic religious order of friars and nuns. They were the original influencers who were responsible for introducing Catholicism to the natives and converting them in the process. Aside from this, their major role was to oversee the construction of roads and buildings, and to ensure the establishment of the Spanish order. This was also the height of the galleon trades all over the Philippines. Huge, multi-decked ships sailed on gulfs, rivers, and seas. Traders come, traders go. Mobo became the trading capital of the province when the Spaniards opened a shipyard called the Real Astillero de Mobo. The locals proved to be skillful when they built the majestic galleon Salvador. Dark days came when the Moro Wars began. We were a country divided by religious conflict between the Christians of the north and the Muslims of the south. These Moro raiders from Mindanao terrorized the provinces in Luzon and Visayas, displaying their power over the Spaniards and their fellow Filipinos. The light in the dark When the dispute against the Moro pirates became out of hand in the middle of the 18th century, the Augustinian Recollects friars supervised the building of a stone watchtower in 1752. This served as the fortress of the people against the threat of the Moros. Indestructible stone walls, protruding orillon-type bastions, and the tower in the middle of the structure - this is what hope and survival looked like for the people of Mobo. This Spanish comandania was built on a hill overlooking the Sagawsawan River that flowed along the coast of the town. It served as an observation post to look out for pirate ships of the Moros in order to protect the people, as well as a parola or a lighthouse to guide the people and seafarers home. In 1957 when the “joangas” or large vessels of the Moros anchored in Mobo, this comandania became a silent witness of the struggles of the locals to fight off these invaders. Because the early people of Mobo had courage and determination thriving inside their hearts, they successfully warded off the Moros and claimed victory against them. The comandania has celebrated with the people. The comandania has served its post. It is stated in some historical accounts that this watchtower that became the beacon of hope and defender of the people was demolished by governor general Marquis de Obando because it was poorly constructed. The remaining folks of Mobo said to have moved to the now city of Masbate soon after. In the present day, what remained of this comandania are huge slabs of heavy stones enclosed inside a wired fence to preserve its memory. The comandania indeed played a crucial part in the past, but memories are only really preserved when people would still remember the significance that it has on the present. Watchtowers really are just structures made out of stones and gravel. Lighting fixtures are placed on top to illuminate against the darkness. This comandania had watched over the people of Mobo for years. Now, mother nature has taken over what remained of this tower, embracing the ruins with her leaves and adding extra layers of walls with her trees. The Moro Wars were long over and the watchtower had fulfilled its purpose. As the lights of this structure burned out, the people of Mobo can peacefully sleep and say, “Good night, Comandania.” Zurbito, Helen Maude E. BSED English II Section 1048

PALACIO DEL SEÑOR SANTO ENTIERRO A Spanish-era house emphasizing the architecture and design of the classic “bahay na bato” or stone house has pulled through more than a century in the City of Masbate, in spite of major fires at distinctive times in history; it was considered blessed for housing a statue of the Dead Christ. Near the port of Masbate is a well known and still upright on its original foundations, Balay ni Bayot (House of Bayot) or Villa Bayot. Going through the inside of it there are showcased native hardwood floors, walls and doors with latticework and intricate carving, as well as catipay-shell sliding windows with ventanilla, and statues of St. Anthony of Padua, the Virgin Mary, and Jesus Christ. Aside from its marvelous structure, this house carries in its back tons of historical stories that are worth sharing with everyone. But this is not just a house that is made up of walls and beams, it is also a home that was built with love, dreams, and memories. Momentous events that happened before the Villa Bayot was built. Going through the history of Villa Bayot, an inquirer journalist, Mr. Juan Escandor interviewed a 79-year old woman, Angelita Villarente Bantayan who was born and lived in it over a long period of time; because her parents had worked in the Bayot household. As stated in the article, the revered Dead Christ statue had been in the city even prior to the construction of the house. Two Spanish military men were sent to the Philippines by the Spanish Crown, they were the brothers Francisco and Joaquin Bayot who was tasked to bring the image. The older brother, Francisco decided to marry a woman from the family of Zurbitos, while Joaquin, the younger brother married a lady coming from the family of Danaos. The original statue of the Santo Entierro was made in Spain like other statues of saints and was brought to the Philippines by the original owners of Villa Bayot; Francisco Bayot and Dona Jose Zurbeto who built the house in the year 1880. The story behind why Villa Bayot is only opened to pilgrims during Fridays. Masbatenos and tourists visit Villa Bayot only every Friday, which is the only day of the week it is opened to the public. The visitation time starts at 8 in the morning and closes at 7 in the evening. As the years' progress, the Bayot owners found out that of all the statues of their collection, the Santo Entierro was prominently missing. On every island in Masbate, they did their very best to search for it and almost gave up until a day came when a so-called miracle happened. Something was floating in the seawater that caught the attention of one of their servants, at first he thought it was a dried coconut; but as he came closer he realized it was the missing head of the Santo Entierro. The original body was never found, but the couple had the Santo Entierro’s body restored in Betis San Fernando Pampanga. None of them thought that they would still find the missing Santo Entierro’s head, that is why they considered it as a miraculous act and decided to procession it every Good Friday; which became the tradition of the succeeding generations. Historical events under the roof of Villa Bayot that are worth remembering. In the old days, President Manuel L. Quezon was one of the known public officials who stayed in Villa Bayot. During the Commonwealth period, he slept in the most exceptional bedroom and also danced the tango in its halls. In 1946, the 5th President of the Philippines and as well regarded as the first president of the Third Republic, President Manuel Roxas also stayed inside Villa Bayot. He was said to have danced the waltz and was warmly welcomed by the owner of the house itself, Don Francisco Bayot. Ms. Chita Zaldarriaga, the granddaughter of Francisco was also present at that time, this woman was as well crowned as 1937 Miss Philippines. As you go inside Villa Bayot, their images and their clan’s photos are all displayed on the walls; proving that the history will never be forgotten and that the house was a home built with love and memories. Mysterious but miraculous acts took place inside Villa Bayot. When the closing years of the Philippine revolution against the Spanish regime were nearing, the rebels were destroying the town of Masbate by burning all the houses. Amazingly it was said to be a miracle that the villa Bayot survived together with some of the few buildings, it survived the fire that hazed the entire town of Masbate. Also, during the liberation of Masbate by the U.S forces, a bomb pierced through the building and into the chapel which was located inside the building. But the bomb failed to explode as if it just slowed down there in front of the altar. The house was also used by the Japanese as their garrison. The house remained undamaged even after the bombing. It was believed that the statue of the Dead Christ kept the villa Bayot out of harm and destruction. For these reasons, villa Bayot is not just a house of native hardwood floors, walls, and doors with latticework and intricate carving, a structure, nor a building. Villa Bayot was, first of all, built not because it was aimed to be a place of attraction, it was made to shelter the owners of it; it was taken out of love that they had for each other. A house that has witnessed a number of historical events that for a lifetime be a part of the treasures of Masbateños. Because of that, it became an avenue for the pilgrims portraying their faith and belief in the miraculous Santo Entierro; the saint that guided and protected villa Bayot, truly when God is the center of a home, it will last in the long run and one can always take refuge under it. " History of Barangay Espinosa Masbate City". Barangay talahib, formerly known as lomboy got it's name sometimes when the late Tito R. Espinosa became the municipal mayor, talahib was the former mayor's moniker when addressed by his closed associates. Later talahib became barangay Espinosa, and when an assassin gunned down Tito R. Espinosa who died in quezon city in 1995. most of the people of Masbate speak masbateño a language that is closely related to hiligaynon and capiznon. The Espinosa have been longest in power. They have figured in masbate politics since 1934,with different family members clocking in a total of 52 years in congress. In 1998 they relinquished their 30 years reign as the province's governors. It was the year that Antonio Kho ascended to power as Masbate's boss. Kho was mayor of cataingan in the same year (1989) that Moises Espinosa Sr. Was killed. He was also charged with the murder of Tito Espinosa in 1995. Despite the Masbate's rich natural bounty, it's reputation is mind both by its extreme poverty and political violence. The political dynasty of the Espinosa family began in 1934 when Emeliano B. Espinosa Sr. Clashed horns with the political power house of that Era, Rep. Pio V. Corpus. He sized representation to the lone district of Masbate from corpus, who was the province's congressman from 1935-1941. Espinosa wrenched back his position in 1941 elections, and went on to become congressman until 1953. That was his last term in congress, as he was defeated in that years election by former governor Mateo S. Pecson. Despite his loss, another Espinosa was keeping the family name in provincial government his son Emiliano Jr. Or milling was elected provincial board member in 1952. In 1957 he followed in his father's footsteps and with his father's name reclaimed their seat in congress. In 1968 his younger brother, who was Moises was elected provincial governor. From 1969-1972 both brothers were in government Emiliano Jr. As congressman and Moises as governor, the Moises was governor until 1979, while Emiliano Jr. Represented the province in the Batasang Pambansa from 1978-1980. SAWMILL MOBO, MASBATE “HURUHAGDAN RIVER” On an upland part of Mobo, there is a small barangay named Sawmill with over 210 household only. The most common job here is Farming and small mining. The people get along very well since they were almost related with each other. Long ago before the late president Marcos, this place is not habitant of people but of wild animals. This place is full of big trees like TUOG, LAWAAN, KUBI, APITONG, ALAWIHAW, ATIPOLO, YAKAL, MULABI, PUTIAN, GESOK, PAANG DARAGA and many other big trees. But before this place became the home of over 210 families, a businessman from another place used to log the trees here and since he is the only one to have a sawmill machinery to cut huge trees, the elders that have lived in Sitio soba or sawmill worked for the businessman until the forest perished and become the place where people built there houses and now is called Barangay Sawmill. Sawmill consider only one small tourist place, the HURUHAGDAN RIVER, almost 2 kilometres away from the proper of the barangay. The river that looks like a staircase is what the people living in sawmill proud of to represent. Many tourists come from different places to visit the HURUHAGDAN RIVER. But elders would always remind everyone who goes there to be quite and never do unnecessary things because they believe that the place is the home of a Goddess that protects the river from being destroyed of any disaster that natural phenomenon may bring or even by the human itself. HURUHAGDAN RIVER is not famous like the other tourist spots from other barangay's but it is a belief that when you come to sawmill even by accident or not, you should come and see the natural beauty that the river holds. It hasn’t been reconstructed ever since it was discovered that is why the natural environment that you would witness when you got the chance to come by is very overwhelming and the nature itself exude greatness. What are you waiting for? Come and trek with me! Let’s enjoy together the beauty that nature beholds. BANAAG, ANDREA MAE R. BSED ENGLISH (second year) Section 1048

"PASAUDAN KA?" ''Nak byernes baya sugad hano? kadi na ma saud anay kita.'' A typical conversation that you will hear during Fridays, Saturdays and even Sundays here in the City of Masbate. The City of Masbate is known as the heart of the Philippines, rich in love and dreams. From natural resources to its beautiful beaches, one will surely get fascinated and captivated by its beauty. Our pinalangga na Ciudad (beloved city) never fails to amaze us with its rich culture and tradition as well as its crops, minerals, livelihood and natural resources. Saudan is a word used by the Masbateños to describe the place where our fellow farmers and local businessmen from different barangays sell their dry goods, root crops, fruits, and vegetables as well as homemade products.Saud or saod refers to the products being sold, while Saudan refers to the place where people go and buy. On the other hand, magsaod or masaod is a term used when a person wants to go to this place to buy some stuff. Local farmers will usually put up tents or stall and display their goods or products on Friday morning till Sunday morning then afterwards, they will go home and return every Friday. Before the pandemic happened saudan was located near the City Hall and in front of Social Center, then later on, it was transferred to the old market site, situated in front of Masbate Terminal, Diversion Road, Brgy. Pating, thus making open doors of opportunity to many local farmers. If you will go and visit saudan, you will surely enjoy the products there and will never miss the opportunity to buy one. Vendors will greet you with happy faces and will say '' Nano po sa imo ma'am or nano po sa imo Sir?, bakal na po.'' Then, they will show and sell you their goods. Fruits, vegetables, homemade products, dry goods and sweet treats are common products that were sold in saudan. Meanwhile, the delicious delicacies that can be found there are the tasty and sweet carmelado made from the fresh milk of carabaos and cows, the molido bars made from coconut, pumpkin and sweet potato, the konserba made from coconuts and peanuts, the pickles or atsara, and the favourite pasalubongs and loved by people from other provinces- the different kinds of dried fish or bulad in Minasbate dialect. The efforts made by the local government headed by our beloved Mayor Rowena Tuason to support and promote local products, as well as to encourage our fellow farmers to keep on farming and cultivating their land denotes that the land of Masbate is blessed, rich and abundant in natural resources, as well as advancing in progress, thus this will be the great reason to support local products and to promote our beloved City. Saudan is a well-known place here in the City of Masbate. It's the place that we can run to when we want to buy delicious, healthy, and affordable products. FARO DE ISLA JINTOTOLO "THE ISLAND'S SPARKLING GEMS" By: Elna M. Aguirre Witnessing the love and laughter of a couple or a group of friends, a magical place with its historical lighthouse located on its peak level that shows up the 360-degree beauty of the island. Jintotolo island is part of Balud municipality, province of Masbate, and can be reached via a 30-minute boat ride from Calumpang, Balud port. A landmark which Balud takes pride in, aside from its bountiful water and white sand coastline, its prominent feature is the century-old lighthouse on top of a hill, the highest point level of the island. Faro de Isla Jintotolo is one of the 24 original first-order built lighthouses erected by the Spanish government in the archipelago in 1895 and activated in the early 1900s. It has a square tower with an octagonal podium that houses the lamp, an old and rusty yet beautiful and classy 51 feet high tower that flashes 3 white lights every 10 seconds. It aims to guide ships traveling the Sibuyan sea, Visayan sea, and Jintotolo channel. Going on top of it is very adventurous as it entails attachment and stories behind it. You need to walk kilometers away to reach it. It's a little tiring yet gives you a wondrous feeling of getting back the memories of our ancestors way back Spanish period. The real beauty of it will be much appreciated if you look around and glimpse its surroundings while you are on your way to its peak. Stairways to heaven, heaven falls on earth and not just an illusion. From the top, you will see the whole beautiful island, especially at the low tide. Its beauty is hidden by the sea with its crystalized water reflection that covers up the beautiful coral reefs, a bunch of seashells, seaweeds, and colorful stones and rich in different varieties of fishes. A real paradise existed in the middle of the ocean that can tour for less than 4 hours on foot. Lighthouse has its perfect view and a perfect place for those who seek peace, beauty, and sentiments. It engraves a history and our memories in which whenever the sun's hide, where the moon and stars appeared the lights of FARO DE ISLA JINTOTOLO will always guide us throughout darkness and continue to shine through time. The Unnoticed Treasure of Aroroy People were running and hiding by the sight of marching soldiers. There were non-stop exchange of bullets almost everywhere. The sound of firing cannons and explosions were totally deafening that made people shake in fear during the terrifying days of World War II. This is how our grandparents usually describe their past experiences during those times and among their stories, they would often highlight how they felt upon seeing a cannon and how it looks like in person. A cannon is indeed one of the weapons that shaped our history and it is also the unnoticed treasure of Aroroy . It was between 1942 and 1945, when Imperial Japan occupied the Commonwealth of the Philippines during the World War II. Masbate was one of the places that the Japanese Soldiers had invaded. The first Japanese elements arrived in Masbate the dawn of January 7, 1942 from Legazpi. They landed in several places without facing the opposition - the province was too stunned to mount any resistance. They used different artilleries to conquer the island and as soon as everything was under their power they started to build and bring more weapons. One of the relics of their invasion is a Cannon which can be found in the so called "Golden town" of Masbate Province. The interesting thing about this World War II weapon is that it is actually located at Aroroy East Central School. Yes! It can just be found in an elementary school of Aroroy so there's no need to travel further or go anywhere and spend so much money to have a glimpse of our history. It was said that the Japanese Soldiers purposely put the cannon on that area since it was facing the sea and so, they could swiftly destroy the ships of their enemies that ever tried to come nearer the shore of the town during their rule. But even after Masbate regained its freedom from the Imperial Japan, the cannon was left there. As time went by, when an elementary school was to be established on that same area where the cannon is situated, it was decided not to remove the artillery. But with the passing of time, it seems like like that this historic object became just an ordinary thing under the flag pole of an elementary school. Usually, you would see elementary grade pupils playing around and even riding on that cannon as they are too, unaware of its significance in our history. Even when people would talk about Aroroy, the first thing that would enter their thoughts is "Oro" or gold and it is so rare or almost not that people would mention about this world War II relic. This unnoticed treasure of Aroroy deserves to be appreciated as it is something that can never be found in mining. No piles of gold can equal how rich the story it tells about our land. It may not shine like the way a gold does and may even look old but this cannon will surely give us a memory of the past and remind us what our ancestors had faced and how hard they fought just to win our land back and enjoy the freedom we have today . No more loud sounds from explosions but peace. DELA ROSA, DIVINE M. BSED ENGLISH-IV ENGLISH 37

THE GOLDEN TOWN There's a paradise in the philippines which is not yet sincerely explored. This is a place whose beauty is concealed for centuries and a place where paradise like sceneries abode. In one municipality of Masbate called Aroroy , mining is the most ideal work to get into , both for the rich and for the poor. The rich has enough capital means to buy equipment and utilities needed to start a mining business. Mining business is very feasible in Aroroy because almost every meter of land that you step onto has underlying nuggets of Gold. Aside from it , Aroroy is also known for its beautiful and gorgeous beaches. The sand in this place shines every summer and its blue and green sea water sparkles as well. Some of the tourists enjoyed the spots not just because of its beaches but also the mountains there. There are lots of sceneries that can probably amazed you. Aroroy is the place where people chose to be happy despite of being poor. Masbate is the place full of treasures yet people here are among the poorest around the philippines. RAZA , CAROL ANN M. When God steps in, miracles happen. It was a miracle that the Villa Bayot was one of the few buildings in the city that survived the flames. As well as after the U.S. forces' liberation of Masbate, a bomb pierced through the mosque and into the chapel inside the building. Yet the bomb refused to blow up, as if it were only lying in front of the altar. Before, in Masbate, the Bayot family is the richest and most successful family. This house is also full of antique chairs, religious pictures and photographic images of their clan, such as a chandelier, chair, cabinet, table, and many more. By retaining its ancient yet beautiful buildings and their distinct architecture, like Villa Bayot, Masbate takes pride in its rich heritage, which continues to fascinate tourists from all over the world because of its magnificent features and importance to our culture. Angelita Villarente Bantayan, 79, who was born and lived in Balay ni Bayot, said that even before the house was constructed, the respected statue of the dead Christ was in the area. We learned from her that the Villa Bayot was built in 1880 by the original owners; Don Francisco Bayot and Doña Jose Zurbeto. Bantayan, whose parents served in the household of the Bayot, said that the place had become a kind of museum, with ancient portraits of the Bayot family and a variety of antique furniture, and a pilgrimage destination for the devotees of the Deceased Christ and other saints. The building, also named Palacio Del Señor Santo Entierro (Palace of the Dead Christ), is visited by pilgrims every Friday, the only day it is open to the public. Bantayan believed that during World War II, the statue of the Dead Christ kept them out of harm’s way because the Japanese Soldiers who were about to attack the house were driven away by American soldiers just in the nick of time. Truly, miracle happens when you’re closer to your God. The way we humble ourselves to the One who created us, miracles and protection will surely follow us all the days of our life. The history of ticao island masbate. Age-old stone tablet from the ancient inhabitants of Ticao... BAYBAYIN was a simple and elegant system of writing and reading of the early Filipinos that came around A.D. 1000- 1200. It was first called b-a-y-b-a-y-i-n which means to spell in Tagalog. But in 1914, the dean of the University of Manila, Mr. Paul Versoza, coined a new term. He called it Alibata to mimic the first three letters of the Maguindanao arrangement of the Arabic letters- alif, ba, ta. Alibata term was discarded because of its foreign origin. The BAYBAYIN used basic symbols, three of which the vowels A, I and U. Each basic consonants symbol had a inherent A sound: kA, gA, ngA,tA, dA, nA, pA, bA, mA, yA, lA, wA, sA, and hA. The Baybayin is a syllabary which means that each symbol represents a complete syllabi. They used sharp knife or any pointed objects in writing on bamboo and especially prepared palm leaves. Unlike other civilizations, the early Filipinos made writing and reading available to all. The art of reading and writing for the other civilizations (like Egyptian and Mayan in ancient Mexico) was made available only for the elite group like priests and scribes. Accounts indicate that early Filipinos used Baybayin not for recording history but simply for personal communication and writing poetry. The widespread use of Baybayin prompted religious authorities to publish a book using the Baybayin script to help spread the Christianity. In 1593, the Tagalog version of Doctrina Christiana, a book based on Cardinal Bellarmino’s catechism, came out. There is no record, however, of how widespread the use of Baybayin was. The first evidence of the existence of this ancient Filipino system of writing and reading is on the earthenware pot excavated in Calatagan, Batangas. The pot bears inscriptions around its mouth. Scholars believe that the scripts are lines of poem. The latest and much publicized evidence of the existence of Baybayin is the TICAO STONE ( pictured above) found in Rizal, Monreal in the island of Ticao in Masbate. This is the only unique Baybayin that was written on hard stone which drew the attention of experts and scholars around the world for its importance in the evolution of Philippine language. Masbate, Masbate, Masbate ‘‘As simple as it is and as great as love.’’ Fell inlove to the beauty of nature that witness and carved by its history, from its tourists spots up to unique traditions of Masbaños. The island of Masbate, Ticao and Burias were explored by Captain Luis Enriques de Guzman in 1969. This exploration work was continued by Captain Andres de Ibarra. Ibalon (albay) Province assumed jurisdiction over Masbate islands, and Masbate was named the town’s capital village; for security reasons, the seat of government had to be moved time and time again. It was first moved to Mobo and then again, to Guiom. It was later transferred to Palanog near the mouth of Lumbang River to make it more accessible to Bicol mainland and to the islands of Burias and Ticao. However, government records were kept inland in Cagay. The political history of the town dates back to the 1850’s when the Spaniards established their government under Spanish Gobernadorcillo. The Masbateños vassalage to spain ended sometime in the early part of 1898 as an offshoot of the libertarian campaign wage by General Emilio Aguinaldo, this is some parts of Masbate history. Whenever you visit Masbate you should not missed the Tourists spots that I am pretty sure you’ll truly fall inlove by its beauty. There’s more to visit, such as; Buntod Sand Bar and Marine Sanctuary, this is the first established marine sanctuary of the city where hard and soft coral covers highlights the underwater scenes. Bugayon Marine Sanctuary, this is a 50-hectarte marine sanctuary where a traveler can experience to see the live corals and its diverse marine animals. Tatoo Island, also called as Minalayo Island, it has a number of openings of various sizes that lead to an underground lagoon where sea snakes and bats reigns. Licuson Beach and Mayong Payong of Mobo, Masbate, Palani Beach of Balud, Masbate, Grabe Laki Beach Resort of Baleno, Masbate, Ticao Island of Ticao, Masbate, Burias Island of Burias, Masbate and Casa De Soledad Resort of Pio V. Corpus, Masbate. And if you want to stay longer you may stay at some hotels that is suitable for you to relax. The unique traditions of Masbateños just like Festivals and Celebrations, such as; Lapay Bantigue Festival, that is celebrated annually during the city anniversary on 30th day of September. This event highlights the tradional folk dance created by ‘‘Lola Felisa’’ many years ago, when she imitated the graceful movement of the seagull (locally known as lapay). The dance has evolved and is now recognized by the Cultural Center of the Philippines as one of the official folk dances of the country. This dance was also recognized during Spanish colonization. And very known tradition of Masbateños the Rodeo Masbateños, the only rodeo show in Asia. It is celebrated annually in april and showcase 10 competitive rodeo events. Highlighting this events is the difficult ‘‘figure of eighht’’ competition where the cow boy crisscrosses around the group of barrels. Women participate in heart stopping events like calf wrestling, calf lassoing and carambola. Histories, Tourists spots and traditions of Masbateños, may vary for some instances to the other hometown. But for me, it is the perfect place to mold my experinces, my learnings, my values and my faith to almighty God. I am proud to be part of MASBATE and I am proud say, I am MASBATEÑO. JUDY-ANN L. LAYING ON THE SIDE POSE "I want a seductive pose. Again, 3 2 1, Shk!" Since Aldren was a kid, he always dreamed of being a super model as way of expressing his sexuality and natural talent. One day, when Aldren and his friend were having photoshoot on the Island, they decided to find a beautiful spot for their modelling view, until they entered the caves and saw something unusual that are worth-sharing to their neighbours than their shots. On September 24, 2016, unusual drawings and paintings were found on the walls of Cave Ednagan and Camilo by Aldren Valdeztamor at Monreal, Masbate. Among those paintings on the rocks in the cave were the shape of a monkey, a human face, a worm or a snake, a dragonfly, a bird and so on. It was estimated that the mark of such drawings has been around for a thousand years. There are also rocks found in the cave that seem to be carved. According to experts, these should not be moved and should be carefully preserved, that is why the local government of Monreal is now very vigilant in the aforementioned caves. The National Museum, however, did not dismiss the possibility of the cave paintings being a hoax created as a joke because of its crafts and it is subject for scientific investigation. According to news, this is not the first time Monreal has been heard due to ancient artifacts because in 2011, the so-called Monreal stones, also called “Rizal Stones”, were spotted in this area because the carvings on the rocks were written in Baybayin. Ticao Island is recognized as an archaeological landscape, with thousands of pre-colonial items such as the Rizal Stone inscribed by Baybayin, Ticao gold spike teeth, Burial jars of different styles and sizes, jade beads, sculptures of human face rock, and the petrographs of Ticao. These archaeological findings are used by many of the homes on Ticao island to build their interiors. For the survival of manta rays, the island is also an ecological frontier. In this age where history is not so much appreciated, it is better to create an ordinance to protect the caves like to build a small museum so that when foreigners come to our country they will see our cultural wealth not just the beauty of our places. These findings are designed to collect, conserve, interpret and exhibit items of artistic, cultural or scientific value for public education. A museum may be seen as a means of educating the public about the museum's mission, such as civil rights or environmentalism, for a museum professional. Above all, museums are storehouses of information that we must pay attention. ANTHONY DELON LAZARO BSED ENGLISH II SECTION 1048

MOBO Mobo existed as town ,being establishd by the spaniards , as early as year 1687 . It is one of the oldest town of in the province of masbate . The former seat of the provincial government was in daan na lungsod or old spanish church made of concrete walls. The old spanish time cemetery and other old relics . Also at the present baptist church is the old spanish comandania which served as obserbation post by the spaniards for incoming muslims now are massive fallen walls. The name “mobo” was devived from the word “bobo” a tool being used to catch crabs by townfolks. It was said then that during the colonization of spaniards , a group of guardia civil happened to list down the names of prominent place they had visited . When they readed this town, they asked a group of fisherman of the place’s name using spanish tongue. The fishermen thought that the guardia civil were asking about what they are bringing , so they answered “bobo” instead of name of the place ,and soon enough, turned and named it “ MOBO” In later years from mobo the spanish governor settled at masbate near the entrance to the inland bay, known as palanog bay. The seat island government was established at masbate , masbate from 1910 mobo was reduced into a mere big bario of masbate , masbate until the year 1949 . Wander often. Wonder always Don't panic, if your budget includes any wiggle space. Experience the mountain hiking that never disappoints you by nature's tranquility. Mayong Payong is a tourism attraction newly opened near Masbate City. It's a very fun side ride that should be added to your itinerary. You can stay here overnight and take in the spectacular sights of the province from the top of the hill, when you adore the glory of sunset and sunrise. This location is situated in the town of Mobo, 20 minutes from the town. It was once a rustic hill that was flattened toward the top to act as a campsite for the 2015 District Summit of Boy Scouts. But now, the spot has a soaring ceiling view, a few picnic tables and lovely cottages made of indigenous materials. According to residents, Mayong Payong is owned by Mayor Castillo and she is planning to remove all the native cottages and change them with concrete houses and some people are disagree about it. In visiting this place, it is safer to visit this mountain in the late afternoon to prevent the ultraviolet rays of the sun, and if you want a tasty dinner, you can ask the caretaker to prepare their special Tinolang Manok for you. Surely, in your entire life, you will never regret visiting this place, especially when locals are around, they will even let you ride their horses, just never forget to give them a tip as a simple courtesy. There are times where there are fogs throughout the city if you're lucky on your visit, and the rainbow sighting is absolutely incredible. Before sunrise and dusk, the perfect time to visit is then to become intrigued when you watch the sun rising and then it sets. There is also a nearby Brgy Waterfall. Jologon, where you can take a swim and enjoy the calming warmth and if it's your first time, it's important that you ask some local to lead you on your way to the falls because if you go unaccompanied, you might get lost. SARU: THE UNTOLD STORY OF HEALING Do you believe in the power of faith healing? Or do you consider dedicating food and drinks to unknown God can heal a person with severe and unknown illness? In the remote area of Ticao island where medical facilities are too distant and needed the cross the ocean enable to reach the hospital, people are still practicing the "Saru/saro" as a practical and inexpensive way of healing. In Ticao island where medical facilities are hard to reach, people with severe illness has always been believing in the power of "Saru". The term Saru has been widely used since then and it's still practiced even today. Saru is a tradition of Ticao people that has been transmitted by generation to generation. The healer or (para saru) is a person with unique talent, whenever they are performing the Saru they are murmuring a latin word, a kind of memorized magic spell or a kind of prayer but before the Saru begins they prapare something to offer into the Gods, including a one white or black chicken, one bottle of liquor (usually genebra san miguel or the Gin bilog), 7 pieces of sopas ( a kind of crispy baked products), 7 pieces of cigarettes, 7 pieces of cooked eggs, and a cup of cooked rice. Then the Saru will begin in a room that only the healer and the person with disease are allowed, for some healer it's okay to have the whole family but during the performance no noise should occur because they believe that it would hinder the communication to the unknown God. After the rituals, the person with illness should be the first one to eat the foods and the remaining foods should be eaten by everyone including the "para saru". Then the person with illness will wait for how many days for the result if it works or it fails-- simply shows strong believe to God. Truly it is an amazing belief or ritual of the Ticaonons. It is unique and unbelievable that a kind of ritual can heal a severe and unknown diseases but on the other side of the coin this shows poverty and the poor medical facilities of the Philippines. As we know any type of illness should have proper medication from medical expert but due to lack of money and a distant medical facilities some Ticaonons can't afford to have one but other people really refused to seek medical expert. Simply do not believing on science. In the end, Ticaonons only shows the unforgotten beliefs that they inherited from their ancestors. The rich and unique culture that makes them distinctive. if you were to ask, would you consider Saru as a last resort if ever you have a severe illness? AMOR, JOWELYN B. BSED ENGLISH II SECTION 1048

THE GREAT TREASURE OF MILAGROS Milagros got its name from Spanish word Milagro meaning miracle. Stories handed down from generation to generation told us that the community was founded by early settlers who are peace loving and faithful converted Christians. Early then, coastal communities are the center of trade and commerce because of its facility to transport goods and products to and from the other communities. Milagros is one of the original municipalities of Masbate since its creation as a New Province by virtue of Philippine Commission Act. No. 105 enacted on March 18, 1901. It is the mother municipality of Cawayan, Balud and Mandaon until their creation under Executive Order 244. The municipality is bounded on the south by Asia Gulf which is part of the Visayan Sea, a rich existing fishing ground. Milagros is located at the southern part of the Masbate Island duplicating boomerang shape of the Island. It is bounded out the north by the Mobo, Baleno, Masbate City, Mobo, North - East by Uson North West by Aroroy, Mandaon and Balud, On the East by the Municipality of Cawayan and to the south by Asid Gulf. It is the largest municipality of the province with an area of 56, 540 hectares. It is composed of 27 barangay with one island barangay and one island sitio. MAGDALENA "Taga saan ka?" "Magdalena," aking turan. A PLACE LIKE USON Come and visit the different municipalities of Masbate. One of the municipalities of Masbate is Uson. It is a one hour ride from Masbate City. Uson got its name from the minasbate word "uson-uson" which means lands that is shaped by crab. It became a municipality on November 11, 1911 together with Dimasalang. After world war 2 it became municipality again on August 18, 1949. One of the local spots of Uson is the Morocborocan beach. It is just a few minutes ride from Poblacion Uson. Morocborocan beach has not so white but fined sand. Also foreign tourists had come and visit the beach. Are you looking for a Vigan ambiance but doesn't have the budget or can't travel outside Masbate? Try to tour around Poblacion Uson. Come and see some ancient houses of the Usonanon. Some families decided not to renovate those old houses and maintain their original styles. Perfect for fb or instagram post. There are some places that you can visit in Uson. Uson has its wonderful history to share. Come and look for yourself. CANALE, JAEL T. BSED-ENGLISH (Second Year) SECTION 1048
