Props to Dark Angel for pointing out the obvious: a handful of EMPs could bring down the whole U.S.A. With everything burned out, and America unable to manufacture well, anything for itself, the nation is one giant sitting duck. Virtually defenseless and completely helpless, having lost industry and manufacturing in the 1970s...2000s.

For any fan of this show I recommend the finding the book series by Max Allan Collins. Book 1: Before the Dawn, is a prequel that shows how max lived before seattle and how Logan knew so much about Max before he meet her. Books 2 and 3: Skin Game and After the Dark, continue the story after the shows final. It gives the show some kind of closure and answers a few of the shows lingering questions.

Dark Angel timeline: -Dark Angel Before the Dawn (novel) -Dark Angel season 1 -Dark Angel season 2 -Dark Angel Skin Game (novel) -Dark Angel After the Dark (novel) Bonus material: -James Cameron's Dark Angel (Xbox/ PlayStation 2). The character with most fleshed out personality and overall development throughout the two seasons. Started as a cartoon caricature, but soon this portrayal changed a lot and eventually he probably seemed the most human out of them all. What he didn't mention (in this video) is how they juxtaposed Normal and Original Cindy in their reaction to the transsexual woman: Normal, despite his supposedly conservative outlook, turns out to be 100% accepting, while Cindy rejects the idea and calls her Frankenstein (or some such). The show had problems, IMO, but sometimes the writing was somewhat clever compared to other, similar shows.

the Y2K scare, better known as Millennium Bug, was not about the world going to end. The scare had to do with the mess it could have caused financially, in fact, my dad who was a banker at that time, had been working for over 2 years on assessing risks, working with suppliers and creating redundancies in case anything went wrong, it was a very serious issue, and a lot of smart and intelligent people worked across sectors to make sure nothing went wrong .

Glad someone posted this, I was about to. Yeah, it seems silly now, but computers were very different back then and we had no way of knowing 100% for sure that they would properly switch over b/c of the way they were programmed. The "world ending" fear was due to a combination of possible economic failure and nuclear systems being computer based and a security/control breach due to the date issue causing corruption/failure of those systems. IT professionals worked their asses off to have system date formatting fixed at the last minute. A lot of programming and recoding in a short period of time. Probably the only legitimate "end of the world" scares. All of the other ones were ridiculous conspiracy theory based, with no basis in reality.

The problems in the year 2000 were not generally with the computers themselves, but with software that had been written decades earlier by people who didn't think it would still be in use by that year. One motivation was to save memory by not storing the century. The year 2000 is not the only problematic year for software. Y2K was a real problem. It turned into a nothingburger because people realized it was a problem and took steps to solve it. The ozone hole is another example of a problem that people took responsible steps to solve - if they hadn't done that things would _really suck_ now. The Covid-19 mess is an example of people not proactively dealing with a problem, consequently things have subsequently sucked. Proactive problem solving, your route to stress free living!

Non-techies talking about Y2K as if it was nothing don't understand the problem and don't realize the millions (billions in todays value even perhaps) that giant companies put into updating EVERYTHING so that Y2K COULDN'T happen. The issue, however, has only been pushed to a later date, 2047 or 74 maybe, can't exactly remember. Don't downplay the amount of hours spent fixing code people assumed would become obsolete before this was even an issue. Yeah, they knew this was an issue from the start, they just assumed that nobody would be using the code then. People always overestimate the technological advancements of the near future yet underestimate the advancements of the far future.

This was a great show and it seems always to be forgotten. I picked up the dvds as soon as they came out, so now I really glad I did. I remember hearing the commentaries on like some of the last episodes of season 2 and it seems that Jessica Alba was not really happy with how the season came out, this is in her own words. I really liked the second season. I think it was ahead of its time, if you look at all the heroes and villains we are getting in the MCU. At the time, the second season reminded of Grant Morrison's 'New X-men' that was out at the time. He had the usual X-men in it, but did not just have the pretty X-men, Scott , Jean, Emma, etc, he had actual mutanted mutants that were part of the group, it had the same feeling of the season, so it connected to me more I guess, even though I do like the first season better. I think the main reason it failed that it was moved to fridays during its last season

Yes, an underrated SF show from the heyday of kickass female action heroes. I agree that her friends at Jam Pony were mostly annoying, but the show has to be given kudos for its unique world-building. By the way, it's "Gwa-ver-a", like Che Guevera, the Argentinian revolutionary, an obvious reference. The finale episode was arguably the best in the series, though season 2 was generally desultory. It even had some social commentary, especially in season 1, on class division and the excessive power of the military. Jessica Alba slipped into the role quite nicely after a few episodes. The theme was never really duplicated - most other female action hero shows of the turn of the millennium featured stars as spies or government agents, like Jennifer Garner in Alias (with Buffy being the exception).

Fox has a long tradition of sabotaging its own shows in the 90s. The only one that thrived despite getting slammed with the dreaded Friday 9pm time slot was the X-Files. I remember through the 90s seeing the ever shifting array of shows that aired before X-Files like Brisco County Jr, Sliders, and Space Above & Beyond. All died out, yet somehow X-Files survived for a good long time. As for Jessica Alba, man she was so hot and adorable at this time!

Problem with these high budget pre 2010 shows is they tend to use a lot of music they lack the license to use for streaming since streaming wasn't a thing. So unless they are sure they will get their money back, whoever owns the rights to Dark Angel probably won't bother to lay out the cash for all the license's to put it up for streaming.

In a very restricted Catholic family, I loved this show, and it helped write my future beliefs. It wouldn't be edgy today but it was back then. It shouldn't come back. It should be available to stream for free, say, on the amazon. But... Hold up. Dial-up aol wasn't even popular and widely used until the 90s. Public computers were at their infancy. I ran over my flip phone with the car and it was fine. It took me 20 minutes to boot up the internet for use. Thinking the electronics would fail to adapt together with the calendar year change wasn't out of line. People put in great effort to make sure things would continue to roll forward without glitches. Considering finances and banking had started to rely on computers, it was a very real issue, and it did require new code to be written. We've come a long way.

Why do people, who earn money with narrating videos, don't own a decent microphone? This is a mystery I will never understand. Those things aren't even that expensive nowadays. Get a Blue Yeti for 90 bucks. It will sound much better. The sound quality of this video seems like you've used the built in mic of your laptop. greetings from germany :-)

You realize the US government lost access to its satellite surveillance systems. There were a number of problems that were not fixed by the patch.

I loved Dark Angel. Logan was probably my first TV crush ever. It had great potential, but I didn't like most of the changes in season 2 (including Logan's haircut). I cringed at the "in heat" scenes, yet I didn't appreciate how they dropped the thing entirely. It wouldn't make any sense today, but then it was ahead of its time.

I was 16 when this show aired in the UK and a huge fan. I remember being part of the official website forum discussing episodes with everyone after transmission (good old days). Anyway, everyone was hyper-critical of the first season, particularly the semi-cliché stories. However it was rumoured that they wrote episodes in tandem with production, so each story was only weeks behind the previous transmission - ie making it up as they went along. Hence why season 2 suffered in quality, the long term plan hadn't been established. This was a shame as conceptually the show had a lot of potential but just lost it's core values far too early.
