Haggard’s books about Allan Quatermain… Haggard’s descriptions about Africa in King’s Solomon Mine are very vivid, I usually can’t visualize in books, but this one made me feel like I was there. This alone is very impressive not even considering Haggard had never been in Africa. I don’t think the following books are as good, but it’s nice to read about Allan Quatermain. Don't know about that, never read Stevenson's novel, and the article mentioning it I read at least 10 years ago, but it kinda makes sense: the longer they go on, the more dominant and powerful Hyde gets, so why not physically bigger as well as Jeckyll shrinks (he's pretty scrawny in the books and the movie)? My only problem with the film was how Dorian Gray couldn't look at his picture, when in the book he got a twisted joy out of watching the painting change

I enjoyed this film very much. Never got why people hated it, it was pretty entertaining to me. I think people bought too much into Alan Moore's crap. He's such a tool who believes in his own hype. I always laughed when he claimed that 'Watchmen' was "unfilmable" because of the scope because it never made sense. Comics are damn near story boards! Same thing with LXG. Loved it for what it was. Even with the changes from the source material.
@Mesjasz3 жыл бұрын
Watchmen was about history of the comic genre, including "what if" scenario where pirate comics take place the superhero once, going through the same evolution from simple stories to sophisticated, and dark tales. It was obviously "unfilmable" because the whole story was created and talked about that one medium. The final product wouldn't be a bad movie on it's own, but lacks any depth, simple, superhero movie, stripping it from any meaning, and concentrating on action. For example death of Comedian was literally one panel in a graphic novel, but they had to do the whole ninja fighting scene in movie, with adds nothing. But you obviously don't know that because you never read watchmen, or any other Moore's works. And what with the "I always laughed when he claimed", like you burst out laughing watching that one interview you saw, and then rewinded to laugh more, or something? Kinda creepy, even if its a hyperbola.

@@Mesjasz lolz I've read Watchmen many times before the Snyder film. Nice try though....
@unkindestcut3 жыл бұрын
@@Mesjasz I agree, the Watchmen adaptation was disappointingly shallow and one-dimensional compared to the graphic novel. Snyder spent too much time and money recreating the comic panels and not enough capturing the themes and characters.

Most of the hate is because it wasn't COMIC accurate.... I love the movie because of the action and whatnot....But the storyline in the comic book version and this movie version are TWO different things...even Alan Moore (the writer of the comic book series) HATES THIS MOVIE.(although he hates V for Vendetta and Watchmen movies as well)

I loved this movie. It was a GREAT romp. I didn't know it went through so much to get to us. I'm glad they stuck with it. I think the film unfairly got & still gets a lot of flak. But I don't care, I still think it's a great movie and no one can tell me any different. It's a great fun film, always a joy to watch.

For myself, in 2003 I was still playing the odd role playing game with friends and buying a graphic novel here and there. I picked up the movie on DVD and enjoyed it enough to re-watch it every now and again. I had no idea this much turmoil surrounded the movie. Also, even though I respect Allen Moore as an artist, I still think his criticisms about V for Vendetta and The Watchmen are stubborn and narrow minded. You can't always adapt a comic or novel to a movie, but movies like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen did a fairly good job before Hollywood got obsessed with reboots and reimagines of 80's properties and truly became the cesspool of "profit in sacrifice of creativity" that it is today.

The reason why this movie was so bad, is the original material was really good - and they included almost none of it. It would've been awesome to have Sean Connery suffer from ptsd after seeing Cthulhu. But instead he was just the same character he played in The Rock. And don't get me started on ninja Nemo... Nah, this was a horrible movie.

It's different because it was being developed concurrently with the comics inception and the paths diverged.

I liked the other Quatermain movie and Conery did a REALLY good job with this version. I liked every single character in this movie. They all did excellent jobs and had good chemistry at least on film. The sets were amazing. The setting was amazing. This IS and WAS a good movie. It just wasn't what people were looking for when it came out. They really needed to bring each character to life with their own movie THEN make this one. Van Helsing came out around the same time. Another movie trying to break into the monster legacy. Marvel came along a few years later and figured out how to pull off a true Universe launching series. This movie had all the right ingredients except for time. Which is the recipe for cult success movies. Movie wasn't perfect but it deserved better than it got.
