@uildanach2010 But Ireland is considered one of the British Isles, is it not? The other main Isle being Great Britain?
@kwoltekublai33374 жыл бұрын
@uildanach2010 "The British Isles", which does includes Rep. of Ireland, is a geographic and scientific term rather than a political one which is now only correctly used in those areas due to the similarity in ecological development. 95% of what you say is irrelevant or just incorrect, and the only relevant parts, considering the actual meaning and use of the word, you conflate with totally different situations - areas of Taiwan, Japan and Russia may overlap ecologically, but none of the overlapping areas are typical of the majority of the rest of the country, at least for more than one of the countries - the same can be said about your example of Philippines and Indonesia. How many times does the island of Ireland or Great Britain fit into any of these nations excepting Taiwan? How many distinct ecological zones due to this size difference do these countries have, and how does that compare that to Ireland and Great Britain. Size matters greatly when considering the difference or similarities of the ecosystems of adjacent countries, not that you are mad about historical oppression of your ancestors and dislike any term that categorises both together regardless of meaning, context and scientific legitimacy.

And they didn't even mention the Channel Islands and the various overseas territories such as Gibraltar or the Pitcairn Islands, each of which has its own very special status. Even inside the country these things are terribly confusing. E.g. Leeds is a city. Or is it? There is a small settlement core generally referred to as Leeds, which traditionally had the city rights. It is surrounded by numerous locations that are part of the same conurbation, known as the City of Leeds and having the city rights today although not generally considered the city, but still use their old names from when they were independent villages in addition to the word "Leeds" (not "City of Leeds") in postal addresses. In other countries, reforms are made to simplify structures, and people quickly adapt. In the UK, every new reform intends to simplify things but just ends up adding yet another layer of complications. Not just in old documents and a few overlooked old regulations (as is normal), but in people's minds (as is very unusual). No wonder the country wasn't fit to stay in the EU.

@@nathanielcowan3971 I think 'got' is quite a liberal definition. There's no real colonies. It's just a handover of control from Western to Eastern. The formal rulers are still locals. It's just a change in their official overseas allegiances. Not very disruptive in the scheme of things.
@nathanielcowan39715 жыл бұрын
@@zhouwu you wont think that in twelve years. They've already got Chinese police stations in south Africa (my father's home country). I'm not insisting that it will only be Chinese citizens in their Senate and public offices; I don't believe there will ever be a Chinese president of SA, but it is starting to feel like Britain's hong Kong rule. The Congo will probably just be mined for all of it's recourses, it's leaders enriched, then left in the dust or perhaps turned into a segregated tourist attraction for the Chinese citizens with good social credit... if their lucky
@zhouwu5 жыл бұрын
@@nathanielcowan3971 Hm, ... I can see why you're concerned. Still, it makes sense to bolster security in South Africa. I've heard the security has gotten extremely lax, especially after Zuma took the helm, but then, what do I know? As for the Congo, well, with Climate Change about to kill us all, what's being left in the dust? In the scheme of things, death is death. And which Congo are you talking about anyway? There are two.
@nathanielcowan39715 жыл бұрын
@@zhouwu there's low region of central Africa that touches the Atlantic on the west coast. You're definetly right about the security in SA. Johanasburg is the car-jacking capital of he world and regularly competes for the highest murder rate per-capita. These aren't private security agencies, however. They are police stations. I can understand how some may brush off concerns for now, but when they establish their own over-sea, civilian courts it will be undeniable. Then, they will have another colony. Years later, they'll actually all it their own and hoist the crimson flag over their subverted territory.

"They have no king sir, they have a governor" "And who is that governor?" "Admiral Miklós Horthy, sir" "Admiral? They are a sea power then" "No sir, they are a landlocked country" "Mhm... so.. do they have any territorial claims against us?" @jm64377 жыл бұрын
Liam FitzGerald, you are totally wrong. Spain will always accept Scotland in the EU if they become independent following the law of the UK. The problem of Catalonia is that they want to become independent UNILATERALY, and that is against Spanish law. Firstly should be neccesary to change Spanish Constitution in order to allow diferent regions to become independent, "unfortunately" the most of Spanish cityzens must agree this change, and people don`t agree. That is why Catalonia is trying to become independent UNILATERALY. And any EU country will even recognice Catalonia as state if they follow this way.

"The UK is in Europe." "Yes." "So they have the Euro." "No." This floored me consistently since the vid came out in 2016.

This explained everything perfectly. They shouldv showed this sketch on every news broadcast before starting the brexit topic to explain it to people 😁

Cool sketch. Thanks. I think the Great in Great Britain is from Greater as in a widened border like Greater London, Greater Manchester etc.

To misquote Monty Python, ""Let us praise Britain. Oh Britain, oooh you are so big. So absolutely Great. Gosh, we’re all really impressed down here I can tell you. Forgive us, Great Britain, for this dreadful toadying and barefaced flattery about the EU. But you are so strong and, well, just so super. Fantastic. Amen."

You're brillliant guys! Greetings from Catalonia! Yea, u know, Catalonia... North eastern part of the Iberian Peninsula. Well, part of Spain, currently... Only, we don't like it... To be spanish, I mean. We held this referendum in 2017, and Independence won, by 90%, but the spanish police beat the hell out of us, and the spanish government said it was illegal, so we remained spanish... Well, kinda they forced us to remain spanish... But we're part of the EU. Well, the spanish president said we'd be leaving the EU if we became independent, but then he said we were never gonna be independent, anyway, so why bother, right? It's complicated... Anyway, thanks for your great show, keep at it! And, wouldn't be great, if u know, mentioned Catalonia, someday... Just mention us... :D Thank you!
