These comments read like they were written by bots. Why are people so defensive towards a very eyebrow raising practice? If you want to pay money just to be able to test a game that isn't finished yet, by all means, it's your money, do with it whatever you want. But don't tell other people they are missing out or that they should also follow suit. You will not catch me paying for an unfinished product. We all will play the same game regardless when it releases. Emphasize on the "when".

Very early on, Steven said something to the effect of the ludicrous buy-in price being a monetary gatekeeping of people who get in because the sunk cost makes them more likely to take their role seriously. Sure greed is probably a big part of what they are doing today but you're also going to weed out a lot of people who join a 'new release' mainly to make their own quick profit if there's a buy in.

It's a Multi level marketing scheme. This company makes $35+ million in revenue each year and doesn't even provide a product or service, in fact they make their "customer" pay for the privilege to test it for them. And has been doing this for years. Obviously not as much profit early on, however they raised over $3 million in the first 30 days on kickstarter alone. All they did was start the "copium" drip VERY early for people to convince themselves that this isn't terrible practice between producer and consumer and wouldn't work in any other market.

This is an open development game. You can simply watch people play and make up your own mind. Nobody is forcing anybody to buy it. The game is pretty far from being released, so what the money provides is access to their servers for potentially quite a long time, and to help fund the project. Yes Steven has said that it is funded to completion but he's put tens of millions of his own money into the game, and people bitching that it isn't free or cost very little are kind of entitled. It literally costs him money to host you to play, and he doesn't owe anybody anything. We're all grown ups. Either spend the money and get what you are being sold (access to testing and being part of development), or not, and wait until it comes out.

"To finally play Ashes of Creation" No. You're not. You cannot. This is not a game, it's not AoC. You're not "Playing" anything. you're testing servers, systems, and stability. You're not playing. THis is not a game.

You can't complain about the price tag, it's an alpha and you don't have to pay it. The price is irrelevant. I definitely wouldn't pay that price btw.
@WilliamHaist2 ай бұрын
I actually totally understand why Stephen chose to charge such high prices for alpha access. It's because he said himself that he doesn't want the general public to be buying into the alpha of this game. The ONLY people stephen wants in the alpha testing phases are content creators and in house testers and family members. There are 2 sides to every coin and early access to a videogame is no different. Sure you might be able to try out an early version of the game and get it for a discounted price (normally) HOWEVER When games get put into early access on steam and they're buggy due to being EARLY ACCESS people mass post negative reviews for that early access game because it has bugs. People form their first impressions of a game the moment that they get their hands on it, and Stephen knows this and doesn't want the normal playerbase for the game to play an unfinished version of it. Instead content creators can make videos about the most recent changes to the game and let their viewers know that the games coming along.

I always think it's cool when people talk about software programs and have no experience with them. Is no one able to compare other game developments? What do you think is done in an alpha? Questions upon questions, I bet the alpha will continue in 5 years. If someone had released this game as an alpha under a different name, people would certainly not be talking about it so positively. No serious company would charge money to test an alpha version. I bet the high price is mainly to get KZbinrs to buy the game and people who are already very hyped and don't even realize what they are being promised and what is really there.
@howlermonkey14562 ай бұрын
people who pay to play an ALPHA, and complaining about the games ALPHA state is ridiculous. Know why I wouldnt do this.. because alphas are always shitty. Its not the dev's screwing you.. it is them providing suckers with the opportunity to lose money.
@Valerianqelbri2 ай бұрын
Buying keys to the alpha you get access to all later alpha and beta stages. Once the game releases you also get several months of “free” game subscriptions. These are included in the price of the access. So if you are actually going to be playing the game once it’s out you get rewarded for contributing to the testing.

ive seen a lot of ppl get stuff wrong about AoC alpha2, but ive never before seen someone get something wrong about everything they say also, how are you supposedly a big mmo games content creator and dont know that basically every KS/indie game for the last what, 10-15 years have allowed people to buy into alpha?
@fenrifegads55712 ай бұрын
He didn't say or imply other games don't do the same thing. The problem with whataboutism is that in order to attempt to shift the focus to someone elses behaviour you have to first cede the point that is being argued to your opponent. Namely that the behaviour in question is questionable at best. If you don't manage to shift the focus, or the person you are talking with wont allow you, then you have just scored a bit of an own goal.

Here's what I suggest. Many won't follow the advice as they are sycophants or too goodwilled. If you paid to get into this alpha, DON'T PROVIDE FEEDBACK OR BUGS. This is typically a paid role for an employee. You are in essence doing someones job for free and/or preventing a potential job from being created. AoC should be paying for testing, not getting it for free.

Don't buy in to the Alpha. It's not worth it. It's not a game and will take at least 3-4 years to launch. Even then it will not be a mainstream mmorpg. Be really sure you know what you will get for the key and what kind of game AoC is trying to become.

@@egemenozan5641 Indeed, you are probably right, I truly feel that focusing on Ashes will be a wise move. It has the potential to be the next big MMO, enduring well beyond its initial release. It could very well be the successor to WoW, or at the least, follow in the footsteps of GW or ESO. Ashes is a new MMORPG that combines classic genre elements with innovative ideas that could enhance the experience significantly. I believe people will invest heavily in this game. Goblin should capitalize on this opportunity, and I don't believe that resorting to hate view farming is the right approach. While it may generate quick views, it's not a viable long-term strategy, in my opinion.
