I have found your explanations on the difficulties we humans face and how to go on resolving them very sensible and helpful. And believe me I have gone through dozens of therapists and books. I also accept the inner child conception and rich now I am going back to heal my wounded child. I'm using your analogy of the golden thread to discover the origins of the "3 lies" that I have told myself. But at times it gets complicated and I get stuck in my old patterns and habits. Thanks for the work you're are putting out here, I really appreciate your interactions, Alex & David; the meditations and the explanations about wu wei - although I'm sure there may be more point of views about the same topic in general but so far I really resonate with your work. Question: Please correct me if you meant it differently, but this is what I heard from you - From this video I gather that you put it as if Yin equals Shen and Yang is the pushy, ambitious, human-like, self-sabotaging, bully side of us that resists, persists, and manipulates in order to overpower (the Yin). I've always heard that yin and yang are like black and white, masculine and feminine, the two polar opposites that yearn for balance. But, if we say that Yin is Shen and Yang is human we have lost the opposition (between yin and yang) and thus Shen is no longer a deeper still state of oneness (between yin and yang) but it is the Yin. Would like to ask a question. I'm the kind of person who researches things to death. But the day I decided to put down my beloved dog of 19 years, I did it quickly without thought. Cried the whole time I took him to the vet. Looking back wondering if my tears should have been a red light. Was feeling overwhelmed by his care - I also care for a handicapped brother. From the Daoist point of view how would putting a living thing to death be thought? If I could do it over again - don't think I would have done it. What's out of balance in this situation? Where's the too much yin or yang?

Nice video I love the explanation. I am able to visualize the ideas behind the symbol in a better way now. It would really help me if there was a video explanation of yin/yang and why something like a magnet generator is constructed on its yin/yang counterparts. Now that we know the rules of the symbol how do we build things from it??!

The Taiji represents you as a complete being. The light and dark represents the positive and negative energies that exist within all people. In order to feel pain, you must know joy. In order to know wisdom, you must know ignorance. This is also indicative of the dots of opposition of color. The white dot in the black means you need to have a "seed" of joy to understand suffering. Negative is born from the positive and vice versa. Additionally, though the Taiji shows each side in equalibrium. Not all individuals are born with those sides in equal proportion. Everyone's Taiji is unique and that's OK! That is why we are all not on the same path.

Hi Steve Thank for watching and commenting. We do NOT say in this teaching video that wu wei means yin yang. You have misunderstood. In energetic terms, wu wei is the balance and flow BETWEEN yin and yang - the point of harmony and synchronicity between the two extremes.

Chinese ancient philosophy is different western. They never do any definition. That is like Chinese characters. Understanding the dao de jing need to understand Chinese first. Translations make so many mistake. Chinese called that draw tiger with cat as model.
