Fun fact: sone bomb actions in japan were much worse than the nukes (also because mist citys were build using wood and fire goes brrrr). For the tree swastika things: You can cut a circle around the tree through the cumin layer underneath the bark that will kill the tree and turn the leaves brown. It's a good way for homesteaders and such to dry out trees for firewood if they need to drag them out of the forest, cuz all the water will follow gravity so it will be much lighter once felled.
