WW2 ~ US Army, 232nd Infantry Regiment, Cannon Company C, 42nd Rainbow Division. 1945, April 2nd ~ 6th. My fathers very best wartime and longtime friend, Raymond Deming's told me a wartime story about my father. "This story about your father happened during the assault on Wurzburg, April 2-6, 1945. We set up our battery of six 105 Howitzers on the top of the hill overlooking the city of Wurzburg. The infantry were trying to cross the river in assault boats and we, the Cannon Company, were giving support with our cannons. Hank your father was in the middle of our guns when a German artillery shell bounced toward everyone, Hank stood there watching as everyone dived for cover and the shell landed at Hanks feet, a dud! It didn't go off and so Hank lived! I was told this story by Harold Beatty and others as I wasn't there at the time. Years later I asked Hank about this and he said "Yeah", and said no more. Best, Raymond" I wonder if anyone can tell me precisely where these 105mm Howitzers were positioned during this battle, please can anyone tell me? As there any WW2 historian and story tellers based in Würzburg today, if so please ask them to get in touch with me, especially as I would love to visit your great and historic city. My father Henry Stuehmeyer was 19 years of age in 1945, and my father served for a total of 50 years in the US Army, US Air Force and the US Navy. I look forward to hearing from you. My very best wishes. Jed Stuehmeyer

@@47colima excuse me but you are very full of it! I am a living witness and in 1957 the city was far from being rebuilt !!!!

@@ecuadorexpat8558Stimmt Die letzten Ruinen des 2.Weltkrieg,s in Würzburg wurden erst in den 70er oder sogar in den 80 er Jahren entfernt.

@@ecuadorexpat8558 I was also there in 57 and 58. The city was virtually rebuilt. In the future, let's be polite, you can say you're mistaken, not full of it. I moved to Metz, France late in the year and I was amazed that so little had been done compared to Wurzburg.
