World Wrestling All-Stars hoped to fill the void left behind when WCW and ECW were purchased by Vince McMahon and the WWE. Taking place in the Sydney Superdome, WWA "The Inception" was the first pay per view show from this new wrestling company and it pretty much featured guys who were either rejected by WWE or they didn't want to work for WWE in the first place. Juventud Guerrera, Disco Inferno, Bret Hart, Jeff Jarrett, Road Dogg Jesse James, Konnan, Norman Smiley, Crowbar and more all make appearances.
Some strange choices were made in regards to the show production, mainly the commentary getting blasted all over the arena during matches. The DVD release of "Inception" also has a ton of hilarious audio issues including piped-in crowd noise that doesn't match whats going on in the ring.

"Integrity"... As per Bret at a live speaking event in Australia in April, 2024, he's still owed around $100,000 for working for this promotion. Who owes him that money? Andrew McManus, the dodgiest promoter Australia has ever known. Whenever his name is attached to an event, anybody with any knowledge of the major events industry in Australia rolls their eyes, knowing the event will go through various lineup changes, artists won't be paid, and anybody unfortunate enough to have purchased a ticket will be bitterly disappointed. Weirdly -- or not? -- Jeff Jarrett seemed to speak highly of McManus on his podcast...

Wrestling With Wregret covered WWA’s whole run a few years back but didn’t go in-depth on any of their shows, it was a very strange promotion probably best described as late-period WCW mixed with the best and worst of early TNA (literally in the latter case as WWA served as a platform for a lot of TNA’s early roster). One of their lowest points was the 2002 PPV Revolution, their one and only US show. Among its many issues the marketing heavily advertised Kevin Nash and Scott Hall (who backed out after returning to WWE), Road Dogg (who backed out for personal reasons), and a main event featuring Randy Savage (who no-showed and had to be replaced with Road Dogg’s planned opponent Brian “Grandmaster Sexay” Christopher at the last minute).

No it wasn't. I'm Australian and I went to Thunder in Melbourne when WCW toured Australia in October 2000. It's the first and only wrestling event I have ever attended. Nitro and Thunder episodes were filmed in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane.

Despite these WWA shows being pretty rubbish, there is a great trilogy of matches between Devon Storm and Sabu on these PPVs. Those two were probably the two MVPs of the ever-changing WWA roster.

Stevie Ray being an interviewer and commentator isn't surprising, he did a lot for WCW in 2000 and 2001. You'll get to find out all about it for RTW soon enough.

I'm Mexican and I thought Juvi's schtick of ripping off The Rock's catchphrases (especially with his broken English and even way back in WCW) was beyond derpy-derp.

The problem wasn't just the announcing. They brought in Rove McMcManus like anyone outside Australia would actually know who he was at the time. And when you're pusing Nathan Jones, you're dead in the water already.

I remember going to a WWA event in Manchester in December 2001 where I saw Jeremy Borsach for the first time, Bret Hart was the commissioner. Jarett champion with Road Dogg, Stevie Ray, Norman, Grand Master Sexy and others turning up to it. It was decent enough and great to see Bret, especially in person for first time since One Night Only 1997.

I went to a WWA show in Belfast back in the day it felt like an early WCW show but with former WWF stars Booker T.'s brother even had a match using his brother's theme music It must have been a copyright nightmare to run them shows.

Thank You! Me and my wrestling buddies watched on ppv and it was a treat! You have to watch it with mates or not at all. So many laughs and none of them were on purpose. We also saw the WWA live when they came to Perth and it wasn't good. Or was it? I can't remember but I do still have the t-shirt to prove it 😆😆😆

I hope you'll cover more WWA shows in the future. I was one of the people that got conned into buying their Vegas PPV on the promise of seeing the Macho Man in the main event. He no-showed, so we got Jarrett vs. Brian Christopher instead. HOWEVER, there are some fun matches on that card! At least if memory serves me right 😂
