Lawlers roasts were more cutting. JRs jokes on the other hand were more subtle and sometimes more adult oriented. The one thing I found funny and also didn't like was the king's immature humor. Sometimes it was funny to hear the wind get taken out of jokes by a subtle JR reference.

I just wanna say that, when I was a kid, I was really invested in the Tazz Vs JR and King feud. I absolutely despised Tazz for picking on poor old JR and I was really happy when Lawler stood up for his friend. Looking back on it, you can say that Tazz wasn't used correctly, but I can't change how I felt at the time.

Right, even if they didn’t want to put WWF title on him, he could have been in the IC mix. Looking back at the storyline, Chyna/Eddie didn’t need IC title. To me once Eddie/Chyna split, the money was in HHH/Chyna vs Angle/Steph storyline. Eddie you could have put him back in IC title hunt with Taz, Rikishi, Jericho, etc Another thought, do you think the Steph/Angle storyline was killed because there was fear that how Steph/HHH got onscreen and offscreen, the same would have happened with Steph/Angle?

I don't think the Benoit/Jericho feud gets enough credit. IMO, it is a legendary feud that always produced amazing matches. The two guys just jibed perfectly. I was really excited when they formed a (short-lived) tag team to go against the Two-Man Power Trip of Austin and HHH.

Watching reruns of Smackdown and Raw in 2000, I actually love Thug Life Tazz and the theme song is awesome. As far as Shane being in a match with Steve Blackman, I thought it made sense because Shane was being this chicken heel with a chip on his shoulder and you wanted to see him get his comeuppance. Finally, he screwed with the wrong guy and got what he deserved. The next night on Raw, habitual line stepper Kurt Angle was trying to refer the accidental hit as domestic violence. Oh Kurt.

I remember the video tape of this show spending months on the shelf of the BX/PX. Bafflingly, it was priced at an astronomical $40, or about $68 in today's money, so no wonder it didn't move. However, it only became more tempting over time and I eventually bought it. Never regretted the decision.

The X-Pac/Road Dogg match was the swan song for one of the greatest factions in WWF history, D-Generation X. With Triple H becoming an established main eventer with Stephanie McMahon by his side, Billy Gunn and Tori both injured (and shortly making their returns as "The One" and Raven's ninja lackey respectively), and Chyna hanging with Eddie Guerrero (but not for much longer), both X-Pac and Dogg were pretty much twisting in the wind. It's crazy how three years earlier, DX was formed in August-September 1997 by Shawn Michaels, HHH, and Chyna, (with "Ravishing" Rick Rude in tow), and even after Shawn retired from the ring due to his back injury after WrestleMania 14 in March 1998 (until he fully healed up and returned in 2002), Rude went back to WCW in November 1997 (and later died in April 1999), and Hunter and Chyna reformed the group with X-Pac and the New Age Outlaws, DX pretty much dominated the wrestling world for all of 1998, and then the first and fourth quarters of 1999. But, the once powerful and revolutionary group went out with a whimper in a match between two guys who weren't even included in the original incarnation to begin with. After this match, the DX signs and innuendos slowly faded, and the Neon Green was finished for good (at least until 2006). Oh, what a ride it's been.

I never get tired of watching Rock v HHH matches and they deserve a lot of credit for being able to carry the match through after Angle's concussion despite the main story not being between the two of them. They really did have great chemistry together and it's no wonder they fought so many times in 2000

According to Kurt's book, the match played out as planned. Angle was going to be wheeled to the back after going through the table and he had to say whatever line in the back that Vince wanted him to say that he ended up delivering after the concussion.

Talking about RTC at the time, every time someone claims "WWE let RTC win by going PG" (the most button-pushing take of 2008) I like to remind them WWE let them win by converting Godfather. It's funny thinking about how WWE simultaneously dumped on PTC while also totally kowtowing to them.

They kinda didn't have a choice. The PTC boycott ended a bunch of lucrative sponsorships. Around the same time the company went public and SmackDown also debuted as a PG rated program. It was all a recipe for forced change and the the slow beginning of the end for the Attitude era.

One of my favorite wwe ppvs of this era. Every match was different, had a story. If you don t like one thing, a another thing starts real soon. A lot of storytelling and a great crowd. Plus,one of the best commentary teams ever.

Been a while since I’ve watched the original TLC but I must be thinking of a different match because I distinctly remember an ending where at the end Edge and Christian sitting with the belts on top of a table balanced between the top two ladders.

I first got into wrestling in early August of 2000 so this was the first WWE PPV that happened after I started watching so it's always held a special place in my heart. I've gone back and watched a lot of old Raws and PPVs from the early Attitude Era but this time period of it has always been my favorite.

So much nostalgia ❤❤ Summerslam always takes me back to staying in my aunt and uncles villa in Spain for our summer holidays and back then it was always on Sky one ....just brings back memories and gives me the feels ❤❤❤

Kane is my absolute favorite wrestler of all time but the small rant that Brian went on about Kane is totally justified. This was a weird era for kane till he got injured. Kane is still the Goat but I'm just sayin😂

I always respected Shane for this sort of thing, he knew he wasn’t as athletic as the other guys, so when he was in a match, he’d take the biggest bumps just to try and excuse the fact that he wasn’t doing as much work as the other guys…
