Valiant only published five issues of WWF Battlemania. They were written by Jim Shooter (the former editor of Marvel Comics, who also started Valiant comics) and art by Steve Ditko (who co-created Spiderman and Dr. Strange). Valiant also published licensed comics based on Nintendo video games like Super Mario. Before they launched their own line of superhero comics and left the licensed comics behind. Another company called Chaos Comics publised a series of WWF based comics during late 1990s with the Undertaker, Mankind, Kane and Steve Austin.

Valiant Comics was founded in 1989 by former Marvel editor-in-chief Jim Shooter and published titles like X-O Manowar, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, Shadow Man, H.A.R.D. Corps, Bloodshot and Magnus: Robot Fighter. Shooter left amidst controversies in 1992, then in 1994 it was purchased by Acclaim Entertainment (yes, that Acclaim Entertainment) and renamed Acclaim Comics until that company’s 2004 bankruptcy. The Acclaim era is easily the brand’s most notable as they adapted video games from several Valiant titles, the most successful being the Turok franchise.

Wait, so am I thinking about "Malibu Comics" then-- about the two brothers taking over the company and the one that oversaw the deals, and money went missing for 4 years and was found in Louisiana on two yachts with hookers doing cocaine? Didn't Jim get muscled out of the company?

Apparently, someone at Valiant was convinced that these licensed WWF comics (alongside some licensed Nintendo comics) would put the then-fledgling company on the map and make them a front runner in the industry. Needless to say, that didn't happen and Valiant only really started making a name for themselves once they ditched the licensed stuff and moved onto superheroes. (For more information about the rise of Valiant as well as a ton of information about the comic book industry during that time period, I'd recommend watching SFDebris' excellent "Rise and Fall of the Comic Empire" series.)
