Cue the TikTok audio "You think you're the coolest guy in the parking lot and then this guy shows up," and then you land your scarlet Fokker DR1 and taxi to a stop. I have visions of hordes of lovely ladies throwing themselves at me as I climb out of my Red Baron machine, but I'm sure it would just be a bunch of pilot dudes drooling on my fabric wings and getting in the way of me going to get a burger.

@@lipslide101 “if you look out the right side of the aircraft you will see Baron Manfred von Richthofen and his bright red triplane. Look at that Fokker just poking along the taxiway. That Fokker is why we haven’t departed yet. The tower called and ordered me to hold short and allow the Fokker to taxi past us. Some people would say that it’s just a replica, but I think he’s a real Fokker and if I thought I could get away with it I’d run up my engines and blow that Fokker clear across the runway. Where’s Snoopy when you need him?”

@@leftcoaster67Or just put them out on the wings. I know, I know, not WWI-accurate, but still better than having paint splattered everywhere, or worse yet, a harder paintball suddenly turning the airplane into a glider.

I found scale drawings of a Spandau online and built one for my Fokker D7. Originally they had 2 side by side, but I initially installed one to the right of center so as to not block as much view in left hand patterns. My thinking was I could always add another next to it if I wanted more authenticity. So far I am satisfied with just the one, and I get a lot of comments about it. Just used 2x6 and PVC that I drilled holes in. Looks very real

What's involved in getting these into Canada?
@CompleteWalkaroundАй бұрын
That's a good question. If it's just the kit, nothing. It's like ordering any aluminum tubes. Nothing airplane applies. If it's started, it needs to be uncovered. Canada has two inspections on home builds, one occures before things get permanently covered. The next before flight. If it's completed, and the precover inspection is impossible. It has to have 100 hours. This is TC way of assuming that it has to be somewhat decently built. If it's built and flying you're importing an airplane, which is possible but involves paperwork.

Hypothetical yes. There are 3rd party build assist programs available. You must build 51% but not with your own hands per say. It's a bit grey. The manufacturer can't build more than 49% for sure. The other 51% is a bit fuzzy in my experience.
