@italixgaming9153 жыл бұрын
I think that Ian was just overconfident. I know this sounds really odd, speaking about someone who just lost two games, but I was very surprised to see him playing pawn moves so quickly. Pawn moves are extremely important at top level because the pawn is the only "piece" on the board that can never come back. And indeed he played bxa3 then c5 without taking time - and he had many minutes to spare - to analyse the other possible moves and to check what opportunities these moves couuld create for Black. The difference between Ian and Magnus is that during a WC game, Magnus will never play a move without being completely sure that it will not ruin his position. When he lacks of creativity and doesn't see a critical move, he has enough resources to go back to solid and riskless moves like Qe1 in game 8 or h6 in this one. This ability to completely analyse the position and to make quiet moves when needed explains why he is the world champion.

Nepo came into the match with the wrong strategy. He had overanalyzed the openings and was just waiting for magnus to make a slight miscalculation. That's not the style of play that got Nepo here. He had points where he could have played for something more, but always relented to play the safer moves. Attempting to replay Fabi's championship match and take it to tie breakers. In a way I feel really sorry for Nepo to suffer on the big stage like this. The match score by no means represents how good he actually is. However it is shocking how exactly Ian messed up the last two games. We can claim it's all a slow downward spiral ever since his loss in game 6, but both losses in games 8 and 9 were - once again - because he played a quick move even though he had a lot of time to reconsider. And it weren't even bad moves because of some hidden deep idea that was hard to see in advance, they were just 1-move blunders. Such a shame he couldn't get rid of this nasty habit.
@kennethnewman55223 жыл бұрын
The murkier the waters, the more obvious Magnuses' ability to see further than his opponents. Imho, in this championship, in any one game Nepo can get the advantage against Magnus, but in a series of games, Nepo's creativity and brilliance tends to deteriate to inconsistent play, because he forgets to be patient and thorough. Magnus then grinds and grinds, or almost always accurately finishes the ensuing favorable positions. Nepo is indeed a beast and a class act, but Magnus is a bigger beast with fewer weaknesses. That about sums it up!
@MontiPoo3 жыл бұрын
Magnus just has the discipline to be the world classical chess champion and he showed it in this match, Ian did not have the discipline, that's why he lost the game 6, he had plenty of time to find all the accurate moves and draw that long and crazy game, that's what Magnus would have done. Also in game 2 he didn't convert, when he could have spent enough time to find the winning moves. Winning the world championship is about discipline, which Ian didn't have, but it's ok, it's still pretty cool to be in the final, quite honestly it doesn't even matter, many people were world champions throughout history, some for many decades and so what? Just enjoy and have fun, nothing else really matters

It’s a shame that Nepo has lost two games due to blunders and he’s made them by playing too quickly when he has enough time on the clock to do the necessary analysis. In this game both the earlier pawn x a3 mistake then the c5 blunder were situations that more analysis was needed with time available to do it. It’s a crucial failing in a world championship matchup. You can argue he never properly recovered from the game 6 loss but it’s something that needs dealing with.

And now chess commentators and chess fans alike are going to pretend that two preposterous "blunders" in two consecutive world championship games can mean something (or anything) other than a rigged match. Incredible.

This is what happens when the winnings are $2 million and the amount of money that’s been gambled on the match is probably in the tens of millions. There comes a time where chess players could be bribed and end up making more money from throwing a match than they ever would’ve by winning the match. I’m not saying that Nepo is throwing the match. What I am saying is that the winnings are so absurdly low and gambling is so absurdly popular these days that this is the perfect situation for corruption to play a factor in the games themselves.

I mean seriously - TWO major blunders by Ian in consecutive games? I know his first loss (game 6) signified a huge shift in his psychology and confidence, but two losses since then? Just seems so unbelievable.. Still though, I think it is highly unlikely that Ian is throwing this once in a lifetime opportunity to dethrone Magnus, just for money.
@bsfm69903 жыл бұрын
What? Do you know that nepo has a history of tilting after a loss and why would he give up a once in a lifetime opportunity for cash. Yeah no conspiracy here
@SurajGupta-lf8rn3 жыл бұрын
Dude what? Like seriously what? There is no way you believe that Nepo is throwing on purpose. It just looks like he has lost all confidence after the b5 blunder in previous match. Come on now
@finlayson68683 жыл бұрын
@@SurajGupta-lf8rn Apparently this guy and another in the comments actually do think this. Which is insane. Magnus is at the height of his ability right now - as far as accuracy goes. Nepo is just getting tilted searching for a win.

It seem that gambling agent bribe nepo to lose the game, he play not like a great gm as ussual, but nepo enjoy it, always laugh, i guess money is everything for young chess player!
@finlayson68683 жыл бұрын
So instead of thinking that Nepo has been worn down by playing 9 games against arguably the most precise player in history… you think he’s throwing the games for a payoff? That’s up there with the dumbest thing I’ve read this week.
