I know it sucks from the band’s side of things but I always liked seeing shows at total dives where the backstage was small as hell or non-existent, so most bands would just hang out with the fans at the bar/merch tables rather than scram back to their vans/buses. always got to meet a lot of musicians that way.

In England there’s alt rock band of 40 yrs hence now having cult legend status The Chameleons yet the singer songwriter Mark Burgess as with Devin above is known to always wanna meet & have the time for anyone at that night’s performance .When Liam Gallagher name-checked The Chameleons to give them his seal of approval ( they’re all originally from same district of Manchester) in an interview, Burgess took the earliest opportunity to state “ that’s bollocks -i don’t give a fuck what he said because they weren’t ever into us - I’ve never once seen either Liam or Noel in the audience at our shows “ 😆👍

Met Corpsegrinder when I was 16/17, he was chilling by the merch booth. I was terrified to ask for a picture but he was so humble and cool about it. The first picture came out too dark and he requested we take another! Such a cool dude

When I was 10 my mom told me to stay away from the local Fairgrounds because of all them damn Hippies... so I jumped on my bicycle and hauled assed down there. Saw Through the fence some black dude play his guitar backwards and behind his head. Saw some crazy haired lady scream her brains out. Actually saw Hendrix and Joplin perform. I was too young to realize I was watching Rock Gods!!

been to 100's of concerts. closest i got to seeing band members was when i was doing cleaning backstage on this festival and the tourbus from amon amarth came and the bandmembers came out and said hello. and went their way. i was flabbergasted becous amon amarth is one of my favorite bands and i didnt know how to react:P. oh and i met our king and queen at my school when they toured there. they actually looked in the classroom i was sitting in on my own since i tought there would be way to many people to see them anyway and i wanted to finish homework:P

Of the huge ones I've met Metallica and Bruce Dickinson, smaller bands, Max Cavalera, Mike Patton and Jim Martin, Dave Mustaine and David Ellefson, Opeth (serveral times), Biff Byford and Nigel Glockler, was on tour in UK with Ministry, and hanging out with Uncle Al is an experience, was on tour in the States with Amon Amarth, Enslaved and Skeletonwitch, ate dinner with Wendy Dio at Wacken in 2009, and many many more, since I live in Norway and lots of the BM guys are friends of mine. See YOU at 70.000 Tons!

I have some pics back in the mid to late 90s with a few bands that i think I ought to make a similar video about if only to give you a chance to participate in the same way as I just did in such moments for you. I enjoyed this video. For something like this watch Riot V's "Take me back" video which I think you'll enjoy!

2 of my favourite encounters with artists in the wild was meeting Abbath at Tons of Rock in 2022 and Enslaved at Tons of Rock 2017. I was just browsing CDs at a shop in a tent at the end of the festival, and I heard there was someone talking with the girl behind the counter. Turns out that it was Abbath in civilian dress, trying to explain to the girl that he was, in fact, Abbath, and there to pick up some stuff left there for him by the owner, but she was 1. tired after working all day and 2. Ukranian, so there was some trouble with the communication. Eventually she realised what he was actually saying and was incredibly embarassed, but he just laughed. I joined in on the conversation and we all had a good time and took pictures together. Abbath is known for enjoying himself at festivals, and while he had clearly cooled down with some beers after his show (that he played in full black leather armour in the scorching sun), he was not particularly drunk (for Abbath) and was really nice and polite. The Enslaved one is more for the context, as this was during a show and I didn't get to talk much with them, but what a show it was. 2017 marked the return of a legendary norwegian band: Vazelina Bilopphøggers, a rockabilly-band who's career started in 1979 and who's great songs, humorous texts and singing in the folksy Toten-dialect have made them one of Norway's most beloved bands, to the point that Fenriz of Darkthrone has a tattoo of their coat of arms and participated in a TV-tribute for main songwriter Eldar Vågan's 50th birthday. They hadn't really played live for 10 years, but would end that years Tons of Rock festival with a fantastic show, and who would I run into among the crowd at that show? Non other than Ivar Bjørnson and 2 of the other guys from Enslaved (I think it was Grutle and Cato, but I can't quite remember). It was quite surreal watching a rockabilly-band with those guys while the moshpit was turned into a dancefloor, with people of all ages dancing swing. XD One of my best festival memories. I've met and talked with Ivar and Grutle a couple of other times as well, and they are great guys. I've also met many great artists while working as a volunteer driver at the Midgardsblot festival, but they don't really count as "random encounters", but I still want to mention 2 of them. One is when I picked up Rotting Christ at the hotel and drove them to the festival area. It was quite surreal driving one of my favourite bands, but they were super nice and we talked quite cassually. They were really professional and Sakis especially was really polite and humble. Another year at the same festival I was asked to drive a bunch of people from the festival back to the hotel, and it turned out to be Ghaal and his friends. It was pretty funny to see Ghaal, who usually cares a lot about his stoic image, laughing and having a good time. I didn't speak to them while driving, as they were lost in their own conversation, but when I dropped them off at the hotel, Ghaal suddenly knocked on my window, and when I pulled down the window, he wanted to shake my hand and say thank you for the drive. He really didn't need to, but he did, and I think that says a lot about him as a person.

I ran into one of the guitarists from The Band Stars at the not just rock record Expo he gave me a guitar pick and he was pretty happy that I was into his band and that I wanted to learn how to play the guitar it was on my way out the door I would have asked him about and talked about classic metal bands for a bit. I'll try again this year and see what happens.

The first famous musician I met was in 1990 or 91. I worked at a local mall and Alice Cooper was spotted. I was at a hot dog place in the food court and my boss let me get an autograph for her and myself. I also met Rikki Rockett at the same mall. He was a real asshole to the couple people wanting his autograph. I'm not a Poison fan, so I eventually tossed the autograph. Other people include everyone in Overkill, Peter from Type O, Flotsam and Jetsom, a couple members of GWAR, a couple roadies from KISS, Dimebag and Rex from Pantera, almost met Marilyn Manson, Suicidal Tendencies, and I'm friends with a drummer who is in Shadow's Fall, Overkill and briefly in Flotsam and Jetsom- Jason Bittner. There may be another musician or two, but I'm drawing a blank at the moment...lol...
