I agree with what you said I would just expand and say that this is true for every "fandom". Don't you think all the Swifties are not going to defend Taylor no matter what? Like that scandal that Taylor said something about helping the environment but she takes her personal jet the most causing a lot of CO2 pollution. But Taylor is a god for these teenagers People unfortunately are like that. They put their artists in a pedestal. I also wanted to point it out that people give too much credit to these greedy festival organizers. I went to the Blue Ridge Fiasco and my coworker knew I was going and she only kept in touch with Blue Ridge social media. So when I came back she said "Oh, I'm sorry your festival was canceled due to the weather right?" and I was like nope and send her some videos for her too see what really happened. She almost didn't believe it and I understand that. Can you imagine that a big festival, that have been doing something for 4 years is going to fuck up this bad? You tend to believe these big artists and festival have their shit together and are not greedy bastards. Luckily social media is exposing more and more their crap and is hard for them to lie on their PR bs. However if someone only follow their good side social media they won't see anything.

Thank you for making this video and addressing the issue of concert ticket prices and services fee. With the new program coming out of Live Nation, there's speculation that they may start charging fans more to make up for the lack of merch fees they'll be taking and I've seen people say "well if it means the merch money will go completely to the bands, I don't mind paying extra $$$". I feel like they're missing the point that they shouldn't have to be paying more in the first place and that these CEOs are relying on their band loyalty to just take it laying down. Money is still not going completely to the band if they're charging us more at the door; it's going to the CEOs at the end of the day.

maybe Wintersun will start recording when they are done drinking themself to death on the money fans donated that isn't actually needed to record the album? i mean i am kinda impressed people were actually willing to donate half a million. i know some artists got a decent amount of help when they were literally hit with a natural disaster but i didn't know people were that eager to pay for an album they never really heard before. but yeah, given the fact that the local metal festival(aka Metaldays) has some questionable buisness practices and constant excuses on why they are raising the price beyond what similar festivals cost in higher income countries... yeah, i think people should call them out. also, if anyone other than the artist is getting crazy rich on the money from the music while the artists are just scraping by...well thats shitty. oh and also, yes, it should be possible to survive a festival and it is possible to have functioning toilets and showers even with tens of thousands of people. i"m new here but just subscribed. great video! i understand loyalty to bands/genres to a degree. i mean, here's an example about my "all time favorite band" and they aren't even a metal band. My all time favorite band is The Smashing Pumpkins. I immediately fell in love with the band's music back in the fourth grade in 1994 when my dad gave me a copy of Siamese Dream. That album inspired me to play drums. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness came out when i was 12 and saw me thru to the age of 15 when Adore came out. In other words, a lot of angst in that age range and I grew up listening to The Pumpkins throughout the entirety of my teen years. they were the perfect soundtrack for that first time i smoked weed, that first time i kissed a girl, the first time i got my heart broken, the first time i dropped acid, the Smashing Pumpkins were always on in the background and honestly i feel that they shaped me as a person more than any other band did. that being said, they have not put a good record out in 23 years now. i don't even listen to them anymore, except for their material up through Machina. i've given every album since a listen but OOOF they fell off hard and fast. a long damn time ago, too. other than The Pumpkins, i grew up listening to a lot of punk rock and a lot of hardcore. as i've gotten older...really, starting around the age of 25 or so, i became more of a fan of country and metal than any other genres and at 39, those two genres are definitely my main haunt. i like new and old bands. everything from Napalm Death to Job For A Cowboy. from Living Sacrifice to Knocked Loose, from DRAIN to Slayer, etc etc. (no one here wants to here what country artists i listen to but a lot of DAC, Waylon, Colter Wall, Turnpike Troubadours, and so on)...but my loyalty to The Smashing Pumpkins as my all time favorite band remains; even if i have not listened to them in a year or more, i will always call that band my favorite. the thing is, though, i can also trash talk all the material they put out in the last two decades with ease. so i guess i'm loyal and also not-loyal at the same time? 😂 anyhoo, glad to be here! can't wait for more content from your channel dude 😎

I am however disappointed with the bands that used to stand for something, yet didn't come out against what happened at BRRF. I won't support them in the future and I will never shut my mouth! Calling out Järi Mäenpää and his "hardships" bullshit IS metal. Agreeing with his "I have no sauna in the studio" crap is NOT metal. I remember 2004 when Ensiferum's "Iron" came to be. It was such a nice folk metal album full of good songs with fabulous atmosphere and all of a sudden Järi leaves the band to pursue his passion of a solo career. "Okay" I thought then... and just several months later, Järi releases a very solid Wintersun album, promising to release a follow-up no later than in 2006. Wow. What's not to like? That timeframe was pretty reasonable as some bands tend to release albums after 15-years long hiatus. But come 2006, all the hell breaks loose... Now the computer can't handle Järi's über-EPIQQQ Wagnerian orchestrations with 89 layers on top of the bass guitar. The studio gets flooded. He has troubles with construction going on over the street, so the jackhammer noise intrudes into his zen-featured acid trip cocaine-induced artistic process. He has no gear capable to handle his enormous artistic endeavor. He DEMANDS A FREAKING SAUNA INSTALLED in his home studio while gathering thousands upon thousands from the Kickstarter campaign... Yeah-yeah-yeah... Year after year giant hordes of Järi fans were protecting their PRECIOUS METAL GOD from reasonable people, calling out Järi on his bullshit. Like he effing pays their bills or something. Excuse after excuse, Järi has finally managed to record and mix his super-special album called "Time I" in 2012 - 8 years after initial release and that album now consists of 30 minutes of widdly-diddly plasticky-sounding filler interludes, adding absolutely nothing interesting into the mix. Now, hear me out. Artist's block is a serious issue. No one really is immune to that. Just listen to brutally honest takes by Devin Townsend on the matter. But at least an honest, true-to-himself artist can admit he/she needs the time to overcome those inner demons before bringing something new to the table. I admire artists, whose shit smells sometimes. Nobody's perfect. Järi on the other hand thinks he's a metal GOD descended from the skies to give them plebians the metal they deserve. If those plebians consider his mediocre songwriting approach at least half decent, maybe they truly deserve what Järi is giving them. But that is not metal.

Guns n Roses is a prime example of bands being greedy with their fans. That box set for AFD was so overpriced, you'd have to be a complete and utter moron to pay the asking price. GnR is a very bitter pill for me. They are the reason, back in '87, I got into rock and heavy metal, so held a special place. Still do, but it's tarnished by the sheer greed of the band, and Axl in particular. Bar any new material from the quasi-original band, he's done enough damage to the organization, that the history books won't be fawning over them, like the media currently is.

I guess in Metal there are kinda two things a bit mixed up. Its a double morality about criticism and a kind of thing which gets every metalhead to the boiling point within seconds. Metal is some kind of criticism and everybody celebrates it but if you suddenly criticize a metalheads favorite band in front of him its like exidentially opening the gates to hell. Its like the first episode from dethclok where they go shopping and the one guy throws some tampons into the cart of the other guy and asks if he´s a pussy. That parody was perfect for that comparision. But i guess thats something which gets better with the age and depending on where you are. Face to face i never had such problems but i also dont call a band bullshit in front of someone who likes them ... well and for the internet you know: for some ppl everything is allowed as long as you dont meet up in person.

I totally get your point. And I think that it's our right as consumers to call things out, if we're not happy with it. Metal or not, I don't care. When I'm paying a lot of money (e.g. 225€, which is around 245 USD to see Metallica at their only show in my homecountry of Austria this year; the event ended up being a complete organisational destaster), I'm simply expecting a couple things to just work out fine. Of course, sh*t can happen, and errors can be made, which isn't even the problem. But ripping off people, not caring about the most basic organisational things and showing absolutely no understanding afterwards is just a big BS, which, in my opinion, HAS to be called out.

The unfortunate truth of the world is most people stop living the metal life after they settle down and have a family, even though metal is forever, trust me I will never turn my back on the metal community and I will never stop listening to metal or rock

Trust me, it's not just Metal, it's anything, even not related to music, and I can tell you I was on the not-so-good end of the stick. Similar to the Gatekeepers in Metal-Land, the dying sport of Candlepin Bowling has a similar clique within it that's more of a discipline-killer than a help. These people want to spread the sport past New England, the Canadian Provinces, and a few odd locations, like the Wyoming Club in Ohio. The pro bowlers always complain about going to places where they "Juice" the lanes, where silicone is placed on the pin decks to make pins fall too easily. So I don't speak bad about a place unless they treat me like crap, and this former alley in Cambridge, MA did just that, so I let out their secret that they juiced (evident by silicone rings on the balls, even visible in my KZbin videos from there). Now 99% of the pros are great people, one of the most sought-after is a great guy, but that lousy 1% that ruins the sport attacked me for being the BAD guy. Wait a minute, I thought you HATE juiced lanes. Why are you pissed at ME? It didn't stop there. Then came helping to sponsor a candlepin TV show, I had two run-ins with the "Pro Representation" that ruins it for those awesome 99%-ers. There was a tourney I helped sponsored that the guy running it just treated me like a 2nd-class citizen, like I didn't exist, yet I was SPONSORING their event. Never again with those idiots. The TV show itself I kept sponsoring until COVID killed the show, and the business it ran from. Speaking of that show, another event was a "Mixed Tag Team" event where the 5 best guys teamed up with the 5 best ladies in a ladder match. One thing that was known to us that we ran with taking a gamble on is the pros themselves tell us it's not a good idea to have women tourneys not because of skill, but they have a tendency to not show up. Getting half to show means you did very well. Most alleys, and even big TV shows up here in the sport's heyday gave up on them for the exact same reason (they can compete in the regular tourneys, always could). So when someone was trying to start a women's tournament, I told them not to hope for a huge turnout, because many don't show up. Guess where that "Pro-Representation" turned their ugly heads to? It got me officially banned from the Candlepin Community on Facebook, for telling the truth, and how they could possibly be wasting money. So anyway, while that happened, the "Mixed Tag Team" taping was to happen after this fiasco, only that another fiasco happened. 12 women said they'd come, 4 did. That wasn't enough for the competition, so they spent 30 minutes trying to come up with a plan b. Ultimately it was a standard tourney, and a couple women made it in. Here's a prime example where what I warned that earlier completion what may happen, happened to us not much later. People were pissed. Even bowling alley owners think I never should've been blacklisted for stating facts that even made big TV shows stop doing certain tournaments. Not just Metal, Candlepin Bowling are full of loud-mouth 1%-ers wrecking it for everyone, possibly the entire thing.

No they aren't loyal. I can't count the number of times I've been told they grew up or got married and don't listen to metal anymore.

Some guy dmed me on discord a while ago because I had a Mayhem profile pic and he started talking to me about black metal. Asked me to name some black metal bands I listen to and then called me a poseur when I did (I have never even claimed to be a black metal fan). That was when I realised I didn’t care because I just listen to the music I like to listen to

ok to be fair, there are more Saunas than people in Finland, they practically come free with any place you build. I slept in a shitty lumberyard barracks and even that had a sauna. He's still not a great guy. Definitely fouled me on his music with his antics.

gatekeeping is not great and most of the time not clever. HOWEVER: people are allowed to have their own opinions and not be bashed for stating them. I hated the latest ghost album. I'm not walking around, telling everybody that it's "not metal". I just think the direction they took sucks. but here's the thing: there are still 3 and a half great albums + a few EPs that I can listen to. that music doesn't get worse retroactively just because I think their new stuff is ass. I saw them twice a couple of years ago and had a great time. would I pay money to go to another show? depends. if their next album is another hair metal shitfest, I probably won't. if they release an album that I enjoy or do a throwback set I most certainly will. because I decide what I do. not the fandom, not the general public. I decide what I like and what not. listen to the music and support whatever you like. art > artist. simple really

Dude I agree with your video. You're fucking right. But I'm going to call you out about Wintersun. Badmouth Jari. Be my guest. Leave Kai and Jukka out of it, though. While Jari may have been sitting on a giant pile of cash donated by fans, Kai has been busting his ass since 2015 touring with Nightwish, and Jukka joined them two years ago. I don't know what the other guy is doing, and I forget his name. But Jari is the bad guy. Otherwise, good video. Thank you for pointing out facts that many people don't want to hear.

Dude, at least with business people, what you see is what you get. If you want to spend a couple of grad to see Metallica - go for it. But what about Motley Crue or KISS "playing" along tapes and lipcyncing? That's when you see all the morons who say "Well, they're old, don't buy a ticket if you're not a fan!" So, you're only a true fan if you're ready to pay like $300 for your hero PRETENDING to sing and play? It just blows my mind how dumb those "true fans" are. They pay money to assholes and they call you an asshole for not doing the same.

It's not only metalheds but also the rock fans, they don't accept criticism against the bands they love, if i write a comment against The Beatles or Jimi Hendrix or Metallica or Motley Crew i get angry answers like i said something against god, i love rock and metal music and a lot of other styles of music but a lot of these artists had bad albums and a lot of these artists are assholes as human beings, so i enjoy their music and i enjoy festivals but for me one thing is more important, the truth, so i can't say that St. anger is a good album because it's crap but fans of Metallica believe that it's a good album, not because it's true but because they won't say something against their idols, i mean that fans takes comments against their idols and their bands personally, i saw this year Motley Crew live at Sweden Rock Festival, their show was the worst i ever saw in my life and i saw more than 500 live shows in my life, i talked to a lot of people at the festival who said the same like me but when i read comments relating to videos of this show on KZbin it's rare to find someone who is saying that it was awful, it's only music, nothing more, thank you for giving me a chance to write my point of view.
