Brandon, metal has always been a particular style of music. It has nothing to do with subjective ideas of heaviness or protests. If you think AC/DC is heavy, that doesn’t make it metal. They’re still rock, no matter how heavy you think they are. Lyrics and subjective opinion don’t make a genre.

I really thoroughly enjoy country music. I also really enjoy metal music. I even love my pop punk and jazz too. It's very hard to be defined by one genre when each one brings so much to enjoy. Country music has some of the best story telling out of any genre, punk is really relateable and catchy, metal has the awesome breakdowns and a focus on darker topics not talked about in other genres, and jazz can describe emotions just by the way someone plays an instrument. Music is so incredible and meant to be enjoyed.

On the topic of relaxing with metal, I need something extreme to take my mind off of whatever. Years ago, I was never the biggest fan of death metal. I didn’t hate it, I just wasn’t huge on it. After working retail for 2 years, bands like Shadow of Intent and Lorna Shore help me relax after dealing with Karen’s all day

I can just fall asleep to any music that I enjoy, be it fast or slow, loud or quiet. I think I’ve fallen to Infant Annihilator almost as many times as I’ve fallen asleep to Mesarthim, and that’s just because they are 2 of my favorite bands even though are completely different genres of metal (brutal/technical deathcore and cosmic black metal).

I tend to sing songs how they normally are though I add a scream to the end of the section of My Demons by Starset, the part right after the second verse, because I feel like one work really well there. There's also definitely screaming in non-metal songs, though they tend to have that influence of course.

Example, I wear my warbringer shirt to work, a guy asks "what's that say" my response: It says warbringer they're a thrash metal band, thrash metal is like slayer, anthrax, megadeth, metallica etc. It was big in the bay area, of course there was the european thrash bands as well, but thrash came about due to a combonation of punk and new wave of british heavy metal, that's like judas priest, iron maiden, diamond head, saxon, etc. But those bands came about ultimately because of sabbath which combined blues and hard rock but just downtuned the tritone" yeah I'm that guy LMAO

I was raised with lots of genres of music since my dad was a singer and guitarist in a soft rock band and repared live music equipment. I listen mainly to metal but since my dad got sick and later died I started listning to "countryish" music

I had a coworker who talked about band members on first name bases. it was confusing as fuck. Example: talking about "Matt" and about his issues in life and the realize she was talking about the lead of Architects and not a friend.
