This always gets me in a world of sh-t but I wish I liked Death In June and it's Douglas P's semi-tuneless vocals. When I hear him it reminds me of how my dad used to sound singing in the shower. That said I thought their album 'Wall of Sacrifice' was brilliant and unique and fantastic. The second Brujeria album Raza Odiada is one of the most intense thrash metal album I ever heard. I swear there was one month or so where it was virtually all I played.

Houses of the Holy? Sometimes a naked kid is evil because of what happens in your skull, no necessarily because of the artist's intention. We may as well ban or destroy most of classical fine art if it's that icky to see that sort of thing. There's an album cover of some band I forget (thankfully) desecrating Jews in a mass grave... Bulldozers and urine if I remember correctly. I find that a little harder to get on board with than a fairly innocuous photo (I believe one of the band member's relatives?). Anyhow, I'd best stop before I get tarred and feathered by minimizing this obvious evil.

To perhaps everyone's surprise - GG Allin wasn't actually controversial until a number of years into his career. He started out as a somewhat standard glam rock sort of artist. When he slowly began to realise he wasn't gonna have major success, he started doing more and more wild stuff. Which somehow lead all the way up to him eating his own shit and assaulting everyone he could reach. Weirdly, from basically every story I've read though, he was a totally normal guy when he was out of the spotlight. Which doesn't even sound possible, but it makes sense that the onstage antics were just part of a persona that went too far.
@profile1674

Actually, I'm not surprised at all. I remember reading an interview once with the vocalist (I think) of Antiseen, and he was asked about GG, as they had collaborated in the past. He said that when GG stayed over at his place, he was the perfect houseguest, friendly and well-behaved throughout. And you're quite right about the beginnings of his career, that early work regularly had me thinking of the stuff Kiss did in the 70's.

It was also far from a stage show, he went to jail the first time for a reason, and yes after that was when he really lost it.

So the story behind the Scorpions album cover is that it wasn't the band's idea. They didn't want the album cover, the LABEL pushed it on them. That's ridiculous lol.
@awarewolves1712
@awarewolves1712 Жыл бұрын
Not really so ridiculous. For example MCA pushed the Confederate flag shtick on Lynyrd Skynyrd. You also have to keep in mind that it was a different time re: youth and sexuality. I mean Brooke Shields was doing nude photo shoots at ~ten-years old, also the movie Pretty Baby, Jodie Foster played a CP in Taxi Driver, also her role in The Little Girl Who Lived Down the Lane, Linda Blair in Born Innocent, Kristy Mcnichol and Tatum O'neal in Little Darlings.... My point is that even if Scorpions were ok with the cover, it wasn't so scandalous within the context of that era. And there will come a time when the "gender affirming care" of today is considered just as fucked up. Possibly even more so. Probably even more so.

Drugs/tattoos for instance but most importantly setting up squats and being homeless. Its quite fascinating the stigma of homelessness in Japan, its so shameful and up there with paedophelia. Hence why there is the whole culture of people sleeping at internet cafes to hide their homelessness life. They were infamous and legendary in the 80s Tx punk scene and their friends apparently had to often convince club owners to even let them play. I mean, Brown Book does literally sample the Horst-Wessel lied, which is a pretty significant aspect of the controversy not mention in the video. That, in combination with the totenkopf symbol got it banned in Germany. But yes, lyrics such as "Rose clouds of holocaust, rose clouds of lies" are more sketchy than any lyrical content on Brown Book. I just think it being banned in Germany and one song being the Nazi anthem makes people look at that album in particular when it comes to Douglas' controversies. That said, it's indeed a lot more subtle than what one might interpret on first glance. I love DI6 and Brown Book is one of my favourite albums.

Sound like a plan ? A deal ? Cool we have a deal ! Damn i'm glad THAT'S finally over !

A couple pf corrections about Roki Vulović; he is a Serb from Bosnia, not from Serbia. Also, the song Black bomber is about how the United States betrayed the Serbs by supporting the separatist Croats and Bosniaks, since the Serbs and Americans were on the same side in both World wars, as opposed to the Croats and Bosniaks

Turbo Folk is not something unique to Serbia or something of the early to mid 90s. It is simply Balkan Folk Music combined with modern western styles. But in other Balkan countries it has a different name. But the "war themes" of these songs were indeed something of that era in Yugoslavia.

So I bought every album by Cut Hands instead and they're plenty disturbing and offensive enough for me thanks very much. Once Upon Cross... If we're going as mainstream as Deicide (for Trevor Brown's artwork). The godbotherers would have gone litigation if they saw his regular output. But Jebus on the autopsy cruciform table was their big trip. In the noise world every other release could make your list. I'm gonna throw Suicidal Rap Orgy in the mix for shits and giggles. Whitehouse also got down with tendentious material almost as a selling point. I'm going to say Rolf Harris and Al Jolson... Let's throw Garry Glitter in there too. I've got some doozies, but I'll keep them close to my underdeveloped chest until your next contraband crusade xMx

As far as DIJ goes, according to a few sources I talked to on fb (one being a guy in his 50’s that’s been a big fan) and another being Richard Wolstencroft, director of pearls before swine in which he worked with Douglas P, is that Douglas P is “nazbol” and that the Brown Book is described as a strasserite album (as opposed to a white power album from like an rac band) listening to “aNtIfAsCiSts reee!!” Keep going “he’s gay but uses a totenkopf on his album cover, they said crisis was a left leaning band but wears flecktarn” is nauseating.

@@wyattxhimNC-17 replaced the X rating. It gets rid of some confusion, like they're not "adult" films, but they definitely aren't suitable for minors. The rating aren't really used anyway because it's more profitable to just make a cleaner R rated film for wider theater release and then dump an "unrated" edition on DVD to bypass rental stores policiy on selling R rated movies to kids. That's how I got some of my horror DVDs and bluray in Jr high.

I mean, if you want controversial, just peruse the back catalogue of Smell & Quim, quintessential oddball British noise band. The record shop where i bought their first LP ('Jesus Christ') had it in a brown paper wrapper because they didn't want to show the sleeve. Their tape 'The English Method' is still one of the most fucked up recordings I own.

there is a beach boys doc about their later albums, that pretty much reserves the narrative charlie was untalented, a stalker or any thing else. the beach boys werent selling, couldnt get along, the wilson brothers carl and the other memebers wanted brian committed and there was an attempted coup in the group by the record label, at the same time denis was going on a hippie craze wanting more song writing credits but couldnt write any songs so he pretty much had manson and the wreaking crew recording stuff he was mining for content, but when the manson song he stole didnt sell and manson started to get more sinister there was some kind of push get manson over the edge. i think some deep intelligence was alarmed a dude talking about revolution was in proximity to the straight laced beach boys and was using the same kind of infrasound they cooked kanye and alex jones heads with to push manson into an mk ultra school shooting or jonestown type freakout. the whole climate of j edgar hoovers secret policy and killing the kennedys, mlk and malcom x, feels like there was an agenda to frame hippies and civil rights folks to protect the war effort after my lai. the manson stuff feels evil, but manson was just a dumb hick with attention seeking behavior and didnt realize when to shut up.

Addressing your questions about the Virgin Killer cover: first of all it was not the band‘s but the label‘s idea to create this exact cover. Why not use an 18 year old but a 10 year old? A young girl does represent the loss of innocence so very much more! And btw it was legal back then and still is nowadays. I admit that the cover is provocative and some mind find it at least tasteless or even criminal because of this imagery. But these ideas are usually products of rather uneducated people. If you get the theme of the album you realise that the image of the naked girl is not at all about sexuality but rather of someone very innocent/naïve. I wonder what other cover could better or even just equally powerful represent this topic.

It was actually supposed to be the soundtrack for the Kenneth Anger film of the same name. Page and Anger had some sort of falling out, and I think Kenneth Anger burned or buried the master tape out in the desert. Bobby Beausoleil aka "Cupid" ended up completing the soundtrack from prison, where he was serving a life sentence for the murder of Gary Hinman over a bad drug deal. Beausoleil was more Manson adjacent than a member of the Family. He was an actor and a musician and had played with Arthur Lee among others prior to his arrest. Rumor has it that Lee named his next band "Love" after "Cupid" Beausoleil but who knows. The music of his that I've heard is good, the soundtrack is good. He's also a visual artist. He's been denied parole despite the recommendations of the parole board. He'll almost certainly never be paroled because unlike Leslie Van Houten he came from a working class family, he's never really played the contrition game, and he doesn't have a famous childhood friend like John Waters advocating for his release. Do a search for Kenneth Anger's short video "Puce Moment" featuring a trippy couple of songs by this guy Jonathan Halper, possibly the only songs he ever recorded, straight from the acetate.
