Wyclef Jean was in studio to talk about his book 'Purpose: An Immigrant's Story'. He spoke about Haiti, his controversial charity, his unsuccessful run for the Presidency there, the rise of the Fugees and his solo career. Wyclef is upfront about his complicated relationship with Lauryn Hill, the responsibility he takes for it, and shares some thoughts on why she's removed herself from the spotlight of the music industry she had conquered.

She's singing about her son, her new love at the time, her perspective on the industry, on life. There's really only a handful of songs where she goes off on Wyclef , like Ex- Factor, Lost One, I Used To Love Him, but the majority is about other aspects of her life I would say.

i think most folks recognize this but given that arguably lauryn was the last great female lyricist her lack of 'production' over the years begs some focus, coupled with her masterwork (miseducation) which was bore out of this relationship which many did not suspect was happening when it was actually a 'relationship' it's understandable the link between wyclef and lauryn's 'demise'. the truth of the matter is relationships are complicated and often the breakup lasts longer than the relationship
