You know, I’m not okay with this but I am glad it happened. This creates a bigger gap between the type of people who watch, participate, and enjoy contest skating and core skaters. Making core skaters even more apparent that they are different from the people who would wear this. Thus keeping core skating cool, and country club skating soft.

Hey just want to point out that hockey is a little bit like skateboarding. There aren’t many big brand sports companies that make hockey equipment (adidas Nike under armor). Everything comes from Bauer, or CCM, which are hockey brands to the core. Weird comparison I never really thought to make between skating and hockey, but when it comes to tolerance for non hockey companies profiting off the sport, people aren’t about it

As a person watching skateboarding and now interested in fashion, I appreciate the opinion that you had about the overall cross between high fashion in skateboarding. Like with many counter cultures that have become mainstream over the years (ex. punk and goth, rap and hip-hop, etc.), we find a lot more moments where skateboarding has become commercialized (as you said with thrasher's popularity as a non-skateboarder item). What's tough about this collab for me is that it's the wrong collaboration to make to move both industries forward. It's obviously just a low effort cashgrab that serves no purpose (in design or collaboration sense) but to make money, and that is what irks me. Now that these two worlds are now connected more than ever (with its commercialization in some aspects), in my opinion, what's important is if a collab like this can move skateboarding forward, and in a tasteful way. In fashion business, a lot of these high fashion staples/conglomerates try to rebrand themselves with a youthful aesthetic to try and generate sales from a younger clientele. Evidently this has caused them to create stuff like this, but doesn't have any positive effects because the product itself alienates everyone but the fashion brand's audience (or fails to achieve the success of another moment). What I've noticed in fashion is that when the largest fashion companies try and take "inspiration" or use "references" from subcultures, the product that comes out from it alienates those in that culture, because it isn't serving/adding to it as you said (the difference in clientele between these items makes a subculture feel some type of way towards the fashion brand, who has an audience who usually isn't in/doesn't care about the subculture as much). Although we talk about the biggest and most unfit skateboarding models so much (Nyjah, Ishod, Yuto, and more), there is probably an even larger scene of skateboarding models who have more than just skating going for them- it's just that the big brands in fashion don't acknowledge the better fits who won't get them as much instant recognition. What I hope to see are bigger fashion labels (that actually want to be apart of skating) try harder to actually give back to the community that they take from, and can create a more unique transition between the fashion and skateboarding worlds. Smaller brands should try and coexist within skateboarding (and involve themselves with cool skaters), so that they are able to have a unique clientele of skaters, as well as fashionable people (When thinking about a brand like Dime, for example), and are able to grow the brand along with giving skaters a unique spotlight as well.

I must say I think you're 100% wrong on this take, (At least in Australia) Lacoste is a brand only worn by alot of hip hop culture, drug dealers, street heads, wannabe thugs, so the Collab actually fits the skateboarding culture alot more than you seem to think it does. Lacoste is a hardcore brand over here in the sense of who wears it, I'm pretty sure over there it's prevalent in the hip hop culture as well.

If all these big corporate businesses are cashing in on skateboarding then why not the hardcore skateboarding companies. The Pandora box has been opened, there is no way "skateboarding" will ever be the same nor be able to "go back" to what it was. Instead we should hold fast to how huge skateboarding has gotten and embrace it. It can be compared to like hip hop(rap) when it was transitioning from being just black music to what it is today.

CK had changed their Instagram profile logo to the Palace/CK collab logo (the Palace trifecta with 'CALVIN KLEIN' written inside it), which had then been layered over the image of this unrelated advert featuring a model popping a stationary ollie. The result was something that looked VERY much like a normal Palace advert, except with a dude popping a massively shit stand still ollie. HMU if you want to see the image as I cleverly screen grabbed it at the time knowing this day would come.

I think when it comes to Nike, from the jump skateboarders hated on Nike and it took Nike a couple tries to really get into the skateboarding scene and to be accepted, and not once did Nike or Adidas ever claim to be a core company that isnt a huge corporation, but nike, adidas, etc sponsored cool people and made good shoes, and slowly skateboarders began to appreciate and support the brands. Thrasher is the self proclaimed "Skateboarders Bible" and have talked shit about celebrities wearing their shirts and companies ripping off their shit like you showed in your video. For years Thrasher was the upholder of what a "core" skateboard company is, which is why i think it's a lot more cringe and annoying to see Thrasher pull this kind of shit because they built themselves up to be perceived as a brand that would never do things like this. Also though, fuck Lacoste royally, here in the UK there's a skate shop in Liverpool called "Lost Art" They used to use the lacoste crocodile on their hoodies, and (im not 100% sure about this) but i heard lacoste had sent a cease and desist letter to Lost Art for using their logo, now fast forward a few years later and Lacoste are unsurprisingly trying to cash in on the current hype in skateboarding. This whole collaboration is a fuckery of greedy little goblins who want money, it's abvious that Thrasher doesnt fuck with Lacoste and it's obvious Lacoste doesnt fuck with Thrasher, but what they both have in common is the same lust for money money money £££$$$ P.s You look very handsome with ur new haircut

In a way this collaboration is actually very fitting. Lacost went from a brand that was very popular and trendy to one that became a generic mall fashion brand, some saturated entry level “fashion” brand selling colourful polos to high school kids who thought they were fancy. It’s the perfect non-skater equivalent to thrasher which became the generic mall skate brand who once sold to an exclusive crowd to now selling to generic non-skaters. It’s debatable which branded needed the other more for this but I enjoy the unity of two powerhouse mall brands coming together for this corny spectacle.
