Welcome to the Wye Valley Walk. In this video I introduce you
to our mothers who get us under way on the Wye Valley Walk. It's
been a tough time for both Andy and myself and their presence is
most welcome at the base of Plynlimon as is the walk.
Heading off up into the Plynlimon massif to meet with the source
of the River Wye the start of our 136 mile walk (more) we also
meet with numerous people making it a bit of a rally on the mountain.
Look out for the Will Renwick interview the president of Ramblers Cwmru
and Outdoors Magic journalist and listen to the River Man Dewi at source.
As seen on the BBC this was a great meeting. The walk was turning out to
be pretty epic already as the descent from source was awesome and the
first camp pretty cool.

Hi there, thanks for popping in. No, nothing better than a bit of family love and support. I don't want to lose you as a potential supporter from the outset but had you watched the video (it is long and it does take time, which I appreciate) you'd realize that my mother was there because I have been dealing with the loss of my dear twin brother Paul of 48 years and Andy's mum was there because his marriage had broken down. It is good up there - my brother Paul and I had walked nearly all rivers of the Wye system from source (see channel). I've explored them all now - he was meant to be on this walk. I miss him terribly. The outdoors helps. Many thanks. Mark

@@WyeExplorer I’m sorry if my comment seemed to overlook your difficulties, it was meant in kindness. I watched the video and thought it was lovely to have your mothers there to support you both at a difficult time. I enjoyed the scenery and look forward to finishing watching the rest of the walk.

@@TheGirlGoneNomad That's Ok - the thing that made me question the view was the time stamp between your reply on your own video and the comment here. It was within minutes. And this is a fairly long video. It is good in this part of Wales. The Cambrian Mountains are often overlooked but are in fact wild and home to Wales's largest watershed hence the Wye and Severn rising from the same mountain where we started. I must say I am not at all bothered if people watch - people who know me know this. It's why their are chapters in the description. People have their time constraints. No! It's the integrity of comments that I am often concerned about. Again, I am cool about people not watching but if people claim knowledge of a certain video when they haven't actually watched it then I am often alerted to the potential of a false relationship. By all means people are free to skip watch and get the overall idea - I do that. And I make my comments based on that often but I make sure I do get the story. I've been on Y.T a long time and there is a way I think especially when we introduce ourselves. Well, have a good one. Peace!

Hi Andrew, thank you for your kind words and support. You do wonder about sharing these stories because it's not popular but it's my heart and soul and I won't be forced by the world to share anything else. If people haven't the patience for it or the heart then so be it. Your resonance doesn't surprise me. Brilliant. Thanks again. Mark

@@WyeExplorer I think it’s a question as to whom you are aiming these videos. Do you go for popularity or authenticity? For me there is no contest. If you are honest with yourself then people who recognise that will be engaged. As for the rest? I’m not concerned. Stay true to yourself and your vision. The world needs authentic voices and that you certainly are.

Outstanding video Mark! Wonderful to have the Mom's for the send-off. Stunning views and great memories, and the Wye flows on. Arthritis has crippled me to the point where I can no longer get to those special places anymore, so it is great to have photographs and videos to cherish. I watched this between 3am and 4am while riding the exercise bike, fighting my physical decline. We have snow on the ground and seemed to have skipped the November weather and went right to December. On we go Mark! Take care, Ossie

Hi Ossie, great to hear from you. It was indeed wonderful to have the mums there. Sorry to hear about the arthritis. I snapped my ankle clean years ago and years later it is showing signs of arthritis. Bugger! Good on you for fighting the decline. You're an example to us all. Our weather is wet today and blowy. I wonder if we'll have snow this year. Take care Ossie. All the best. Mark

Hey Ben, good to hear from you. Thank you so much for the visit. Yeah, not just any ordinary people. It was Wil Renwick president of the Welsh Ramblers and the River Man Dewi Roberts. At the source of the Wye. Awesome! A bit about the videos. They are long form Ben - not short at all. Agreed not the most popular format but I'm telling a story. The sad thing is I've lost so many subscribers/views because of the nature of it, which is loss - I've been here 8 years. My channel has been totally and utterly transformed and stunted because of the loss of my twin. But I need to tell the story and that of our Wye so to speak. I do still feature the outdoors but loss is threaded into it. I hope you can find the time to follow the adventure-get to know it. Thanks again. Mark

Hi Mark, what a wonderful video. Those views are something else. Special moment with the conker placed by the source of the Wye for Paul. Great to meet some lovely people who also share a passion and respect for this beautiful landscape. 2014.. memory lane.....that moment touched me. The outdoors is a healer and a place to reflect on special memories like that. You chose a great camping spot for the evening nestled in a plantation. Thanks for sharing the first part of the Wye way and we look forward to the second part. Take care, best wishes, Paula & Adrian.

What a beautiful piece of work Mark. It made me recall a walk I once did to the source of the River Lune (one of Lancashire's principal rivers) a few years back. The source was such an insignificant hollow really (yes, like a bowler hat), yet it broadens and develops into something quite wonderful. The send off from your ma was a nice touch too. My dear mum died in April and I would love just one more 'send off' from her. Look forward to the next instalment. All the best mate, Chris

A beautiful introduction to the start of your adventure I love the music, wonderful blue skies and a 136 miles wow! Magic meetings brilliant to meet such interesting people able to feel the connection ,not something that can be achieved very often in London unfortunately. The Wye Valley walk...completely agree it is a medicine getting out there and breathing it all in …not the Gear .jacket tent etc...That camp spot looked idyllic mmm...I will be looking for a spot something like that hopefully on my next trip which i hope will be in the very near future. Mark, the start of a spiritual journey with so much significance. Beautiful to see both your mums at the start of this journey, which again gave a real sense of importance to what you were both undertaking. A stunning day to start, giving great views on the climb up Plynlimon. The source really isn't much more than the size of a bowler hat and how cool is to be starting from there and following the Wye all the way. It was great to see the water flowing and to see you retrace footsteps from your previous walk with Paul. A perfect spot camp just beside the Wye. I have to say it is so cool that you are both going on this epic journey and that it is a healing journey. There is a real sense of supportiveness and strength coming from you both and that is wonderful to see. I look forward to seeing the rest of the journey 😊

It's been emotionally difficult to begin that particular undertaking. Hello Mark, lovely video! This poem from A.E. Houseman seems to match the mood of this video quite well. So walk the happy highways again. Peace! Into my heart an air that kills From yon far country blows: What are those blue remembered hills, What rivers, what trees are those? That is the land of lost content, I see it shining plain, The happy highways where I went And cannot come again.

Hi Eckart. Thanks for the kind thoughts. That's a beautiful piece. Yes, there are new trails but I always always cross the old ones. Mark

Just started this series, Mark. Off to a good start! What I love about your videos is, it’s never shallow. Always something to learn and relate to. I’m sure Paul is proud of you, and was with you throughout this pilgrimage. All the very best, Mari

They are long Mari but thank you and in your own time. I've chaptered them now also - so see below. But you can watch in full. Yes, I like to explore my inner self as well as the places we pass through. It can all be to much gear and heroism can't it? Paul is always with me and vice versa. It's totally transformed the channel Mari - I couldn't help that. Well, good to hear from you. All the very best to you to. Mark

@@WyeExplorer Long videos don’t bother me, Mark if the content is good. I always just pause and come back to it when I have to go and do something else. It’s what journeys are about, discovering one’s self. Don’t slate me, I just posted a video going thru my sleep system. Haha! I like hearing people’s thoughts and also open to suggestions/recommendations from people’s camping experiences. You are one with Paul and Paul is with you. 👍🏼 Cheers, Mark! Enjoy the rest of your day. Mari

@@FunsizedEarthling Hey Mari, I get that my friend. That's why I say now skip watch if you like or in full. But I do like to settle down to one. Some of yours have been great. Gear is cool and we have to use it so yeah we're gonna talk about it but sometimes it just seems all about the gear with some. I agree Paul is with me. He comes to me Mari often and I have even recorded it. It's very bizarre. Anyway, have a good evening. Over to your new video.

Mark i loved every minute of this mate Pauls wonderful smile when he was about to have a drink, the top hat with conkers left for Paul, the like minded nice folk you met on the way, and your Geordie reference from 2014 Wye Aye man LOL, the bear hunt boggy man, a beautiful place to pitch Mark and Andy i bet the smell from the onions when you poured on the water was special mate, what a great first day indeed, hope your old injuries don`t let you down, like the great late Lou Reed said Oh what a perfect day, Take care, Peace man, ATB, George.

George it's amazing we're still in touch. I so value that mate. Glad you enjoyed Paul making an appearance. He'll always find a way in. Hey good folk are always there - you're the same. Love em. Geordie Ref? You'll have to remind me. As for the onions they were awesome - a good addition. Yeah going slow with the injuries but we get there George and the days are indeed perfect. Thanks mate - always good. Mark
