What a lovely village! And set in an enchanting landscape too! Fabulous underwater images, and loved the salmon footage as well. Sweet, brave little robin. The otters were a special sighting indeed! That old gnarly path looks like it has been worn to below ground level by many a footstep thru the centuries. Beautiful video Mark, well done!

We love the Welsh villages Cynthia. This one has a busy road though but is nice. Est in AD 600 by St Curig apparently. Yes, there was a lot of beauty in this stretch from the robins, otters through to the worn out paths, which are likely centuries old routes over the high hills. I was pleased to get Paul in again. Thanks my dear friend. Hope the move is going well. Mark

Feeling pretty overwhelmed right now Mark. The Robin and Paul. The otters. Polly. The camp spots - loved that lunch spot by the old tractor. The cottage - was it Joan? It was certainly benevolent - one of the best meeting I've had right there. Grief, good dreams, tai chi at the confluence - flowing energies merging with earth and sky. Some good climbs, the valleys. It felt ancestral watching it back for a second time Mark, cant explain the feeling really so ill leave it there. Thanks Bro doesnt cover it. Love to you and Paul on this day

I love the slow burn of these videos. Most people won’t watch a video of this length but that is their loss. I’m so drawn to the evolution of these walks. You don’t just give us amazing scenes but you give us the experience and through these videos I can live vicariously through them. Everyone should try wild camping like this, to get out of our comfort zone and spend a few days away from technology and learn to appreciate the simpler, more profound, things around us. This was a real joy, Mark, and one day I’d love to take a walk with you.

Nice relaxing video. The music sets a nice tranquil mood. I have heard it before but can't remember what it's called. The tractors made me think of Benny Hill. 'Bobbing' (local term in my neck the woods) like a Viking 😎. I once learned at the Jorvik Museum, in York, that the Vikings also used sphagnum moss for that purpose. Did I hear a tawny owl too about 27 : 24? Some lovely wooded wild-camp locations there Mark, especially the second by the deciduous trees. And the underwater footage was spectacular. I know Gilfach, having visited with my dad a few years back. We called in whilst taking the scenic route home from the Blorenge. What a treat with the otters too. Enjoying the walk so far Mark! Moss is always a great antiseptic plant, full of uses. If you're using a GoPro or mobile phone I use a 300 lumen underwater lamp for night scenes (usually on Amazon), works really well. Mark, I had been waiting on your next chapter and it was a fitting date to publish it. That sense of calm and peace was there again in the images and words throughout (even during the poo!). No surprise that conversations mentioned the power of nature for positive mental health - the conversation with Polly about change was powerful, and it is good to cry 😊 The otters were incredible - a brilliant encounter 😊 A great watch and a great adventure, with a good flow, just like the Wye itself. Brollies really are the business ☔️

Hi gerry, yeah I was always going to upload on the 18th. I remember it like yesterday. Ha ha yeah the poo, had to go in. It's our camping reality isn't it? But peaceful there and around about, which Polly knows only to well. What an inspiring story. I agree no shame in crying. As for the otters I could have been looking the other way. It's how these things work out. Thanks gerry. Always enjoy hearing from you. Have a great weekend. Mark

Excellent Mark, you met some interesting people along the way or Wye should we say. Polly talking about mental health and hitting the booze , i use to batter the booze myself, totally out of control with it. The hills sorted me out a number of years ago , i now control the drink, drink does'nt control me any longer ..Great spotting the otters . I always find abandond houses interesting, i work on one of the smaller islands in Orkney called Flotta and there is a lot of abandond houses there too which i have had a look about , similar to the one in your video as people just got up and left everything inside. ...good stuff Mark ..atb Stevie

There was definitely pride in that cottage as you say. Someone used that as a place to live and raise families, to relax, and sleep, and dream, and perhaps die. It's sad in a way when you explore old places like this. You can almost see the ghost of those before enjoying the place and it being full of life and happiness. Now locked up and quiet with decay and the passage of time evident in everything. It would be very interesting to research old cottages like that to find when they were made, who lived there, what they did for a living, etc. Great video guys.

Very enjoyable Mark. I was up the hills on the Marteg pretty much at the same time - on my way back from north Wales. Did you say the group of women you met was from Fownhope ? So many meetings with Herefordshire folk ! The underwater footage of Dewi's was shot in the Wye near Marteg ? That was a surprise to see so much sculpted limestone under there, such clear water too :o) Some fine campsites too, along the way. Glad someone pointed out the old chimney on the cafe at Rhayader - I had no idea it was there, and I've passed through that crossroads hundreds of times - I believe I had a tea in that cafe when I backpacked through in '89 - it seems very familiar. That abandoned cottage up above Rhayader looks like it has been used as an unofficial bothy fairly recently to me - no surprises there of course - I hope you shut the sheep out when you left :o))) It's all we can do isn't it ? @@WyeExplorer I should have said "an unofficial bothy" - I have edited my comment to put that right ! Yeah, Marteg and Gilfach - I've been having a brew at the little car park you probably walked past - about 100m up from the Wye - for decades on my way to and from the north, and this time I tried out the circular marked route up the hill and back down to the road, and it was much better than I expected :o) The Marteg is one of my favourite rivers anywhere frankly. Thank you Paul for the really kind words. Yeah a great early morning and a luxury loo. Polly was inspirational as was the Robin. What do they say, 'when a robin appears a loved is near.' It totally felt that way. The whole trek kept on giving otters, old spirit cottages and all. As I said the door to that place was closed last time. It was great to explore it. Ha, that tune I heard on a building site near the finish. It's funny where influences come from. Well, I hope you're alright mate. I actually think of you as I look out back. All the best. Mark

Loved all of it Mark, really turning into your ‘Magnus opus’ . Some of those places are mentioned in the film Zulu. Stay safe. Hardy

Hey thanks a lot Hardy. That means a lot to me mate. Brilliant. I think the adventure was maybe top rate - better software and a drone would raise it a little more. But hey I like getting in touch with those other elements that not having the best of everything compels you to do. Loved it. All the best my friend. Mark

Really enjoyed that one Mark. Its a wonderful area. I have great memories of helping to rebuild a Landrover back axel in a pub car park at Rhayader. One of our members broke it on a green lane and the pub landlord had a spare in his shed. 😂👍
