I love his ability to play so many notes and still communicate so clearly. He is playing with intent. He knows exactly what he's trying to say and he doesn't mumble. He just speaks quickly.

Wow. No wonder he had to come up for a big breath at 2:19. Wynton is amazing. There is absolutely nothing he can't play on a trumpet, which means it's always interesting to see what and how he chooses to play. His performance is always firmly rooted in the history and tradition of jazz, which he understands better than most, but it is a bit of a shame too; I'd have loved to see what he could have done if he hadn't been such a traditionalist and dead set against avant-garde and free jazz...

Harry Worley It's interesting to see how Wynton now plays the rather 'plain' Monnette models again. I suppose all the extravagance is more art than what it actually improves the trumpet. I can also imagine that it is very heavy.
@harryworley_
@harryworley_ 8 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think you're right. I believe the one he is using is around $30,000, and most of that price come from the 1000 to 1500 man hours it takes to make/engrave it. And when you say ''I suppose all the extravagance is more art than what it actually improves the trumpet.'', you're spot on. Designs for trumpet have increased in the past 10 or so years, and nothing really changes how they sound. The changes are more renditions on the original design to make them look better or play differently. When someone plays a new trumpet now a days, they would usually say it "plays nicely", and not anything regarding the sound.

John Coltrane Practiced and also had a teacher, he also took lesson his entire career. His family cites him as ALWAYS having his saxophone in hand. Call it what you may, the reality is (my personal belief) we like to put labels on things ( playing from the heart, born with talent, genius etc) to sometimes cut ourselves breaks for lack there of.

seriously, double breathing all over the place, double/tripple tonguing, gharly intonation, rips the notes at beautiful moments, nothing over done.... amazing skill... as a trumpeter myself, and a pretty damn good one in my prime, this qualifies as amazing.... anyone who thinks otherwise is simply an uneducated listener...
