The thing I like most about Wynton Marsalis is the respect he has for Louis Armstrong. He will forever hold a special place for me as does Stevie Ray Vaughn with his respect for Jimi Hendrix. Rarely do we get magnificence twice in a lifetime.

nuances are what make this so good. it's not that wynton never misses a note, it's that he hits each note perfectly. appropriate tone, volume, effects, everything. it's just amazing how every note is hit perfectly

Wynton Marsalis is not only one of the BEST trumpeters that ever picked up that axe, the guy is very smart and polished. I dig that he can not only make his horn come alive, but the Cat is still a student of the art, and a professor . So let whatever critics and haters blow into the wind; because they don’t want to cut heads with this Cat! If you can’t appreciate the Soul in his vibe, perhaps, it’s you that “aint got Soul”. Swing Man Swing!

He views jazz as a type of classical music and thats where he is great at. He is a wonderful Classical Artist. Honestly though he is only making music to be in the eternal spotlight. He doesnt honestly have feel to music, he doesnt have a heart for music. Miles Davis, Dizzie Gillespie, and countless others have come out with at least one or more material that is extraordinary and boundary breaking that Wynton will never achieve in his life time. Something he will never have. Thats my opinion.

Sure I mean his dynamics, range, articulation, tone, rhythm, sense of time, every technical aspect is fantastic. If you want a real jazz player listen to Miles Davis, or John Coltrane, Chick Corea, Charlie Parker, Louie Armstrong, countless others. These artists have come out with at least one album or song that revolutionizes music. Miles once had him uninvited on stage to show him off, and he had to tell Wynton to get the fuck off cause he just wanted a battle Miles, to "Prove" he was better.

@redjr199116 жыл бұрын
yes there is a waiting list and if you don't order by internet (can only do this if you already have gone through the process of testing and matching horn to player) then it can be quite some time before you get one. usually only the really really good people or people that can pay up front get in the door to monette relatively fast

no its called circular breathing, players use it to breath in but exert air at the same time to keep the notes slurred and tied and play longer connected tunes.

Any band with Wynton in the trumpet section has Wynton take the solos. Because he's there. . . . plus, it's his band.
@jtbsax16 жыл бұрын
Well, he is playing the "jazz" chair. The jazz trumpet chair will naturally take more solos than the rest of the section. The same goes for the jazz bone and jazz/lead tenor chair although the lead alto does get it's fair share too. Solos are written into other parts, just not as often. Everyone gets a chance to solo eventually. It's just that some chairs get them more often.
@MarkPoeta14 жыл бұрын
Grande !
@jtbsax16 жыл бұрын
Things tend to be really specialized. Lead trumpets are generally screamers and play all the loud and high section parts. It's very hard physically and they often lay out when their part is doubled by another trumpet. The best soloist is put in the "jazz" chair because that chair gets the most solos. Some composers will use the 3rd or 4th parts as the "jazz chair". Some bands will have the trumpets switch parts from song to song so a player may play 2nd on one chart and 4th on another.
