Looked after them for over 35 years.They were easier to maintain than a modern escalator which will be luck to last 20 years

They got rid of them as the way an escalator works makes wooden ones quite dangerous. Responsible for a fire in a london tube station about 30 years ago.

These old escalator caused a fire hazard on the underground. Should make sure the wood is fireproof

Yes, No Wooden esclalator fire, You know The escalators are replace with metal due to King's Cross Underground Fire.

Probably a penetrating lubricant for removing rusted bolts or screws. Just a guess, not really sure.

I am sadden to see such beautiful things be replaced in the name of safety. The old ones were safe and if objects such as high heels were getting caught, how about all people with hazards ride the elevator and the rest ride the escalator. Too late now but could have worked
