There's also an argument that if the table does well on Kickstarter Keystone then knows Wyrmwood needs them to produce the table to fulfill the Kickstarter so could then jack up their price artificially. It's not a flawless plan but it does suggest Doug understand the importance of knowing the volume of sales and not guessing when planning to roll out a new product
@bryanwoods33734 жыл бұрын
@@thewelshwarrior4634 Yeah, it depends on how savvy and honest Keystone is. Based on the videos, they probably know Doug intends to put up more money than they are officially worth and how much future business this could mean. They could look at it the same way some actor contracts are where they accept a smaller fee to get a percentage of ticket sales that could exceed their normal fee. Keystone could negotiate slightly higher than what is being offered now knowing that they can get that return on investment and growth within a year. And then Wyrmwood might be able to get rid of that huge stockpile of legs by focusing on them for designs or even allowing an at-cost option to change the legs on an existing product.

There's nothing new anout valuing a business as a whole. Never heard of acquihire? Buying a company for the whole purpose of getting the staff. What Doug does has nothing to do with negociation technique, not only is he way too transparent to be a negociation technique, but he also seems to be ready to offer more than what their book say they are worth. If anything, the conversation in this video should reassure Keystone employees. Wyrmwood wants your talent and labor. They do not just need your facilities, they need YOU. It is not a one-sided hostile takeover, it is a mutual benefit to both companies. Keystone is just becoming a Cornerstone for Wyrmwood, one that will be used for future growth and expansion. Without this building block, Wyrmwood's growth is constricted, and without Wyrmwood, Keysone will not see new life. Does a Cornerstone loose its independence when used in construction? Yes, but it retains its unique features and is used to form something new and beautiful, and without it, the new structure could collapse. This is not the end of Keystone or Wyrmwood, it is the beginning of something new. I look forward to what develops here.

BurntToast256 his argument doesn’t hold water, if you spend the 3 million from the Kickstarter to buy keystone that money is gone. Now you have to make up costs to produces and ship all the Kickstarter items through other sales. Assume a massive mark up in cost (I assume production costs maybe 30% of MSRP/Kickstarter price) and they need 1 million in profit from regular sales to cover fulfillment costs. This is a risky move for wyrmwood. The owners of keystone can take the money and walk away.

The way I would run this (because I know you all want to know ;) ), there should be no price negotiations or discussions with Keystone directly until after the Kickstarter. Run the Kickstarter with them under a production contract and see how it goes - not just the production, but the whole process from start to finish, including customer feedback on accuracy, quality, etc...if they prove themselves, great, they have that added value and you can pay that premium. But if it is a debacle or there are issues, you don't want to pay a premium for a kitchen where you have to retrain all the chefs, to use your metaphor Doug. It can be harder to retrain people when it comes to specific processes and QA/QC related issues than to train new ones - which frankly nullifies the whole reason you are considering purchasing them, especially at a premium for the personnel.

Since I'm in need of some new furniture soon anyway, I'll commit to this right now: Produce a dining room table, and both size coffee tables, and I'll support all three on Kickstarter the day it opens. I'll even drive down there and pick them up to save on shipping :-)

If it’s going to be the same as your “Small” table, just with shorter legs.. would you consider an option to just to get the extra, taller legs as well? Then you could do coffee table size until you needed to swap out and go to a regular height table.
@donovanarthen4 жыл бұрын
This would be awesome! If we're going to be assembling the tables ourselves anyway, if there was a way to swap out the legs so that we could convert the height that feels like seriously added value if it's not too much of a hassle on the production end. I guess one concern could potentially be the stability of the legs if they are not a permanent installation...
@kmcd61404 жыл бұрын
There are risers on the market already. You literally put the legs into a kind of "boot" to gain a measured height. They are often sold as "bed risers", but they're the same thing. What if Wyrmwood had their own versions? Their top quality and aesthetics just adding to the versatility. A good foam gasket for a snug fit. Potentially, they could even make it adjustable.

A lot of the concern would be that since Keystone will be going INTO Wyrmwood, that the values and the way that they handle business will imherintently be more Wyrmwood's culture than their own. It's always a concern for company's. My boyfriend's company where he works was recently "acquired" and the change in how management dealt with sales to production happened VERY quickly. They'll be making their furniture and there's that fear that how Wyrmwood makes things will be drastically different than what they're used to. Of course since it's Wyrmwood, they'll be fine. It's just that the employees don't quite know that yet :)

Wyrmwood is much more in touch with what younger people are looking for in a company to support, and it would be excellent for their future. In a way, I think Wyrmwood is taking a much bigger risk here. I hope Doug doesn't overpay -- you really should be paying market value (or only slightly above), regardless of its value to you personally.

I dont get the worry about culture clash. As long as keystone is treated like a subsidiary company keeping full control over personal decisions which I think is the idea they should be fine. The only real change of any sort doug seems to want to implement is sales model changes. Once the purchase is completed I dont even expect to see a wyrmlife episode based in keystone except maybe once every 6 months or once a quarter at the most.

How dare you😂 Lilliput... Good episode. I enjoy the little changes the show has had since day one. Looking back at this business from when it started in a garage to where it is now. Love it. And yes the coffee table will be great and possibly sell the most. I may have to get it as NYC real estate run a tad small

We got large tables and coffee tables, time for some matching end tables.

Would be nice to see a special deal if somebody wants to get a matching set. I would love to get both the 2x3 coffee table for the smaller gaming sessions/puzzles and the larger dining table for 6 or more gaming sessions. That would make a beautiful set of tables.

Kickstarter stretch goal option idea: Coffee table legs with optional wheels on the feet that can lock in place. I would sooooo love that

I hope this works. Those folks need some help. The business pitches were intense but all I choose to hear. Is a good dude wanting to help another good dude out. That is what I need more in the world.

I’m not a lawyer but when you were talking about the behind the scenes criteria for the acquimerger I started to sweat. I see the point about the fact that it’s potentially a permanent solution to a temporary problem. It is true that hiring in-house and having to train us super hard but at the end of it you have 30 folks who are part of wyrmwood and there’s no debates about culture, everyone is co-located, and there’s no Keystone vs. Wyrmwood distinction.
@mathsalot80994 жыл бұрын
But do they have room in their facility in MA to accommodate 30 more craftspeople? Or would they have to acquire a new factory anyway to house them? How much interaction are the 2 companies (in different states) going to really have that the cultures should be affected? No need for huge cultural changes in either location if the only ones interacting are half a dozen people in leadership positions.

The other issue is that Keystone has it's own Proven Shipping company/division/association. We've all seen how much Trouble Wyrmwood has had finding Quality Shipping over the years.

Man as a new business school grad, working at Wyrmwood sounds like it would be such a fun and interesting job with everything going on right now.

Great Episode. What ever the decision is on the "Merger" I think you guys will make it work. Very interested to see this Kickstarter because there seems to be a solid customer base looking for Wyrmwood Quality at an affordable price. If I hosted, I'd be a 100% lock on buying a table. Hell, I may buy one anyway.

My only concern about the Kickstarter at this point is it's really looking like (at least in my part of the country) we wont be having any sort of gatherings until at the earliest a few months into next year. I'm curious to see if that'll dampen people's excitement for ordering tables. That said, I am currently in the market for a coffee table, so I will be heavily considering this product once I can see the finalized design and specs.

Kickstarters usually take at least 6-9 months to fulfill. Look at the dice kickstarter: they launched in April, but the earliest tier was in November. If they Launch in August, probably the earliest tier of fulfillment would be next March, possibly later because it's a larger item to produce. I hope we are back to gathering around tables by then.

What a great episode! That edit at 7:50 was hilarious. I am SO incredibly excited about the projected start date of this upcoming table Kickstarter. @Wyrmwood, are there any plans on doing a roll the dice tier this time around? I love the idea of paying a little more for a chance at getting a more exotic wood, but at the same time, I don't know if I could handle having a Lacewood gaming table 😅. Crossing my fingers for something cool.

Very excited to see what price and design the coffee table is going to be. I am still living apartment to apartment and Don't own any quality furniture other than my bed set. I would love to have a piece of good craftsmen furniture that won't be too hard to transport and I won't have to worry to badly about damage. So excited!

As someone who lives in a downstairs apartment I can't afford to have a large table take up most of living space. I currently have a 3x4 foot table that stands at 30 inches tall. It is challenging to DM a game on it with a minimum of 3 players. So a second table of those measurements that I could put side by side with it or at the end of it to increase our "gaming" space, would really help out. Especially if it's $750 or less. Because unlike a lot people I don't have expensive equipment (ex: computer, home entertainment system, phone, etc.) and have a tough time saving for large purchases. I'm looking forward to seeing how this project develops.

So I know you guys have removable legs for the prophesy as an option instead of integrated ones. Would it be possible to have that on the new low cost table? And here's the kicker: And have as an option to buy the small legs as an extra? Maybe not in the kickstarter but when it goes into the regular inventory.

Doug and Jason, I hope you have solid ideas of what I would buy from you after a table or two. If not, you buying in to Keystone is a not so far future head ache.
