My father was born 1938, spent 13 years political prisoner, and came to the U.S. in 1980 by the "Mariel".. he saw death and suffering and lived thru it.. I asked him if I should visit Cuba, his response was "you have nothing and no one in Cuba" . I never asked him again, because u can see the pain in his eyes. The beautiful Cuba was before communism, not now.

After living in Cuba for 10 years I have to say that I have never seen such humble people any where else. Is nice to visit every now and then but living is a different story. The Cuban people have what they need to survive and if they don't have it they find it. No one dies from hunger; all they lack is materialistic things.

The friends who helped Vietnam most were the Soviet Union, Cuba and Iraq. Cuba is under embargo, so it is extremely difficult for them. Vietnam has also gone through a period of being embargoed by the US, so it is extremely miserable because of poverty. It's great when the friendship thinks that Vietnam - Cuba is still burning red. Admire the talent, great personality of P.Castro and CHE Guevara. Thank you Cuba for its great help to Vietnam during the war and the transfer of Covid vaccine technology to Vietnam. The Cuban government seems to be blaming the embargo on "lack of fertilizer" . I asked why they can't produce their own fertilizer and they said they "don't have the technology" . It seems , the Cuban government has been lying to the people and blaming the pitfalls of their system on the embargo.

Good, any farming practice that can't support the people should die. There is a reason we commercialized farming. Hint, it wasn't so we could poison everyone, that makes zero sense (killing your customers, really?). Fidel Castro once said that "Israel has the right to have their own nation". He spoke on their behalf when many political leaders were afraid to speak on behalf of Israel. Thus according to the God of Abraham ( the Hebrews, Israelites) he became a possessor of the Blessing of YAHWEH. "I will bless those who Bless you and curse those who curse you" I did pray for him (F. C) after I heard/read that statement. So Fidel's Cuba also is in the line of Blessing accordingly. I hope and pray that the people if Cuba will turn to the living saviour Jesus Christ who is the culmination of the Blessing to Abraham. “And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.” - Genesis 28:14 (KJV) God Bless you Cuba.

I took my family to Cuba in August 2017. We hired a driver and car and made it a point to see many areas and visit with people wherre tourists never go. The people were wonderful and gracious. We're planning our second trip soon. But Cuba is a communist country. Locals were afraid that they might go to prison if one of us said the wrong thing and it was overheard by the wrong person. We were advised to talk quietly in public and even our hotel . On the economic front, It's a country that never put an effort into building its economy. It lived on Soviet welfare until the Russians ran out of patience and stopped subsiding it to the tune of about 7 billion US dollars a day. People there told us that education is excellent but health care doesn't exist. No internet to speak of compounds the problems. My heart goes out to these wonderful people. I can't wait to go back.

nice report but the developments in diplomatic relations have been achieved with Cuba and andCcanada for many years in terms of Canada supporting tourism, agriculture and building preservation.SO..-.they- are not so inovative....but of course that is all dependent on the current US government's will.. it is a complex history but the political will will as always have the biggest impact.

D Judson I appreciate your honesty. I am a daughter of Cuban exiles. What you said is very accurate. Especially what you said how they are afraid to speak about what really is going on in Cuba. There will never be freedom there until the communists are gone. What good is their "high literacy" rates if they don't have the freedom to read books they choose to read. What good is their free healthcare if their is no medicine and the hospitals are in deplorable conditions. The Castro's get richer as the poor get poorer. Hurricanes have ravaged the already crumbling buildings and yet any monetary aid and food NEVER reached the people of Cuba. Why? Because the government pocketed it all. Castro died a billionaire. A billionaire! Such hypocracy!

@@JoseEQuesada Haha no, I do not believe any of the 125,000 “Marielitos,” who came ashore on asylum will help bring down Fildel’s Regime, which is his legacy. And yes you are right that the people have made the best out of a shitty situation of being oppressed by dictatorial rule and secret police. But Fidel spent his whole life promoting Communism throughout the Western World and it was our job to prevent it period. Like this or not, Communism is just not the same as freedom. You said the Cubans today have a “legacy of dignity and principles, of unity and solidarity...” yes I would agree with the people, workers, farmers, but not for the Government workers, Military or Police. Even the Educators who teach the children Bullshit Commy crap. Oh one last point, Trump is setting up for real negotiations, first he rolled back all the policy mess Obama did, and now is looking for real progress. It now is up to the Communist government to back down, give the control back to the people. Let’s see if it happens, Buena suerte.

Richard Kennady i like your point of view the future of cuba! I live there most of my life and agree in many things fidel did wrong but tell me who doesn’t make mistakes? The idea was to help the poor people and as you may know most the problems of the destruction of the economy of cuba is the embargo by the us, wish I believe is criminal and inhuman for the people there that is my people, why don’t let cuba alone? Why usa think is the owners of the planet and when don’t like the way a country is been rule they want to overthrow the leaders?? If you really think cuba has done nothing for the world i will tell you some of the conquest of the cuban revolution even under the embargo that thanks to that many of us has to let the island for better economy..

The cuban government does not want the farmer to farmer relationship, it is the cuban regimen, not the cuban farmer, they are crazy to be able to get credits to buy tractors from whoever, but the cuban regimen does not allow it, because they lose the control they have over all the society .Our soil is rich but the regimen blocks ours farmers, you have to be loyal to the regimen otherwise they do not give you seeds , access to water the plantations etc, they create all type of obstacles to the farmer if you are not loyal. They implemented something called agricultural cooperatives , a method copy from the Soviet Union , and the farmer who does not want to join the cooperative does not get the supplies , simple, this is a communist dictatorship and this is the way communist works.
