Evolution was great because they created two new Original characters, Spike and X-23. Also, I grew up with evolution.
@backfandangoX16 күн бұрын
Evolution is a great show but i personally contain it in its own universe and think of it as its own thing. X-Men and X-Men 97 felt more like the main cannon in the comics that I used to read back in the late 80s/early 90s. Also I really like the animation of Evolution but the character design were not my cup of tea, reminded me of Men In Black, Jackie Chan Adventures, and Extreme Ghostbusters. This sort of serious but leaning more towards cartoony art design is sort of off putting. In terms of storylines I think X-Men 97 has been excellent at the weight of the story but agree that they’re going at a break neck pace but I think that’s because they have ten episodes per season to get their point across. X-Men and Evolution had the benefit of having larger episode orders per season. But other than that I feel there is much more gravitas in the OG and 97 version and more in line with what they were established as in the comics with the personalities, relationships and hierarchy of where everyone belonged in this world in it. Evolution made them too youthful and changed much of the chemistry between everyone. It felt more like the movies in that regard playing it fast and loose with the lore a bit. You did bring up a great point about X-Mansion feeling more like a school, sort of like it did in the movies. But Xavier’s classes were much much smaller back in the comic days with his first class being five only. This is sort of a bonus but X-Men and 97 have THE theme song. The famous banger that automatically hypes you up and is one of the best in the history of animation. It went so hard Kevin Feige made it a mandate that if the series was to be created it HAD to have it and wanted to obtain rights to it(along with getting as many of the original cast as possible).
@KingQwari16 күн бұрын
I agree with you the 90s series is a banger with a banger haha. I think they definitely need longer episodes or to not resolve all plot points in just one season for it to get the proper Carr and attention it deserves. But I also think with the xmen existing in the rest of the marvel universe it kinda ruins the point. How are we supposed to see mutants as bad if we have aliens and magic and all these other inhuman beings and concepts that everyone is so happy about seeing? Thanks for the comment tho it was nice to read!

The first season of x-men evolution was slow, particularly the first 5ish episodes, it is very much a *great* show though, on a narrative level imo it is the most "true" to the essence of X-Men, and has amazing character development and thorough plotlines... whereas (for me) X-Men TAS, and even 97 with many of the plots, speedruns things. TAS (92) also had a bit more of a "kiddy" feel, classic saturday/sunday morning cartoon style. Both 97 and Evolution are more mature in overall tone.

I wouldn't necessarily say its better. But there are definitely certain aspects that are better than 97. This is coming from a guy who grew up on both the 90s cartoon and Evolution. People would argue that 97 is the first cartoon to put respect on Cyclops's name but I always say Evolution did it first. I'm always quick to point out that Evolution Cyclops did the slowing his fall with his optic blast first. Not to mention that Evolution did his relationship with Jean a lot better than the original 90s series did. But 97 is starting to take the throne in that department. For a show that had a lot of restrictions and mandates its very good. But its because of those very same things that I would argue that its not better than X-Men 97.

Wow, that's a hot take, dude, but I respect it. XD I don't agree with your statement that "Evolution is a better choice for a continuation" simply because X-Men '97 literally picks up after the end of season 5 of the 90's cartoon, so it wouldn't make sense because their stories are contained in their own universe. Like they're variants in the multiverse. I actually grew up watching Evolution on Cartoon Network, and I was able to follow more of that story vs the 90's cartoon and I agree with most of your points why you liked Evolution more than the 90's version. I also fell in love with the characters because of Evolution. However, I also just recently finished binge watching the 90's cartoon, and I don't think it's fair to compare the two because they're two different interpretations of the same source material. Seeing the characters from an older interpretation made me think that that was the story the comics wanted to portray, and in a sense it's a more faithful version. It would be really cool though for Marvel studios to take inspiration from Evolution with how they approach incorporating the X-men into the MCU. Thanks for sharing your appreciation for Evolution though, cause I think it deserves to get more love from people :)

@@KingQwari Yeah, I get it. Like it was also kind of jarring for me to watch an older animated show, since I'm so used to watching anime and modern cartoons. But I understand that there's probably a lot of technical constraints back then in terms of animating and also having the comics be running concurrently with the shows, so the story arcs weren't as clear back then as they are now today. I agree though that they could've fleshed out Lifedeath a little more, cause I do feel like Storm and Forge's relationship was kinda rushed/forced. XD What I really like about '97 though is that I feel like I'm watching a hybrid of the old series, with the storytelling and animation of Evolution on steroids. Like one of my gripes when it comes to old western cartoons is that they couldn't really show (animate) the full extent of super/mutant powers. Which is something Evolution was able to display/portray amazingly well in the 2000s. So I'm really happy to see the visual treat '97 is providing us :D

Yes to see it from a teenager's point of view is nice, but hopefully people dont purposely put teen in the situations the X-Men have to be in. Yes train and hone your powers, but it shouldn't be a teen place to worry about if Sentinels will come kill them. The drama is way better. The action is amazing and since it's on streaming they can say and do more than they could from the TV broadcasting.

No in my opinion, but I can see what you mean with X-men Evolution. Though they laid alot of foundation and introduced us to alot of characters from the comics while telling a fresh story, Evolution doesn't have the dialogue, thought provoking depth, pain, adversity and loss that makes the X-men universe. Alot of what makes TAS and 97 strong are the symbolism and story telling. They go far deeper than evolution with the prejudice, religion, mutant collars, containment camps, The Genocide Magneto faced then Genosha. When Storm, Wolverine and Bishop go back in time to save Xavier they face racism. Like The Animated Series really took it there regularly. The adversary was actually present in episode 2 when Storm was blasted and she reached into the sky and we saw the clear glass ceiling with the owl flying above. He feeds on self loathing and fear. When Storm drops the flash light which is artificial light and ends up in Darkness and has to conjure her own lighting to set herself free it reminded me of the Bob Marley song "Emancipate yourself from mental slavery… none but ourselves can free our minds". Storm's Tiara from that era would have lock picks stashed in them for escapes when she would get captured. So as she frees herself from the cave and destroys the demon and rockets into space it is a liberating of herself and us black viewers lol. Her manifesting the uniform and growing her hair is witch-like and is probably easter egging her magical origins, hair is also tied to spiritual awakening. Scarlet witch told Storm in the comics that "She is of the Sisterhood" and that Storm uses Magic subconsciously. It also polarizes Charles using his Telepathy again, the Shi-Ar and their hypocrisy and literal enslavement of other galaxies. (Calling earth ghetto but stepping over any and everything in the galaxy for power). When Charles is talking to Lilandra you peep the slaves working in the garden. It was a deep episode if you can't read into the story telling and appreciate easter eggs from the comics everything will go over your head.

The only thing I can agree with this argument is that evo has more young characters, which I agree is a great adaptation and makes the xmen team much more unique than the avengers or smthn, but all of these other points u make just doesnt sit well with me. To me Wolverine best fits his ‘97 version as that is how he was at the start of the comics. However, that doesn’t prohibit him from being a good character. And with storm, yea it was short but to me the fact that she didn’t get overwhelmed losing her power shows how much growth she already is as a person. Not every show has to focus solely on character development, especially since this is a continuation of another series that already has 6 or 7 seasons worth of character development.

You're wrong. Yes, 92 is more comic accurate, but characters absolutely grow. The 'death' of Morph affected everyone, leading to Wolverine going to Alaska in Cold Vengeance, added substance to Cyclops and Wolverine rivalry, and also led to Beast showcasing that he believes in mutant and human relations so much he's willing to wait our an entire season in jail for due process. In evolution, to your point yes the mutants are in school, but not at X mansion. They're going to a regular high school. 90's Scott can absolutely turn heel and may just do that after what happened in the recent turn of events in X-Men 97. Not having the first class of mutants destroys the characterizations of key characters. Why would Cyclops be the leader when Storm and Wolverine are older and serve as the mentors? The core of who Cyclops is, is deeply tied to the dream that Charles Xavier believes in peace between humans and mutants. This is also tied to the fact that Cyclops was one of Xavier's first students. You're take on Wolverine just sounds like you don't like Wolverine. He's the best there is at what he does, and what he does best isn't very nice. Nightcrawler isn't the character to bring levity to the team. Nightcrawler is the spirit of the team. This is because of his faith, and his optimism. The 97 criticism is valid to the extent of a rushed plot structure related to Storm and Forge. However, like some stories you mentioned earlier it's pulled directly from the source material. I think the best aspect of Evolution's legacy is by far X-23. I'm going to guess this series was your first foray into the mutants, and I respect that! However, I disagree with your points of why it needs a continuation and would say you're wrong in it's comparison to X-Men 92/97.

For fks sake people know your comic history. X-Men WAS NOT inspired by the Civil Rights movement, Stan Lee has debubked this for fkn decades. The reason everyone has cognitive dissonance about it, is because of Chris Claremont making it inspired by Civil Rights in the 80s and that basically stayed with them in every interation since.

Yeah, I definitely was not that much of a fan of evolution. I think the only other X-Men cartoon I like other than the original and 97 is wolverine and X-Men. But I especially was not a fan of the episode guest starring Captain America given that they made it so that the super soldier is poisonous to Steve Rogers. I thought It was lame because the whole point of Captain America is that he was the perfect specimen for the serum.

X-Men Evolution looks completely corny with that Era of anime.... Lame ... But each is own... Just say it's not for you... Obviously you're not born in the 80's and is a 40 year old like myself.... Basically your main reason is because Evolution is from your childhood...... In my childhood I stayed inside on Saturday mornings just to see this show during the Saturday morning cartoon era no cartoon Network or all day stuff... I didn't come outside until 11:00 am to play on Saturdays... I'm glad it came back because you have no idea how it feels to watch the reruns hoping it continues the next time you make it to the last episode.
@KingQwari15 күн бұрын
I definitely hear you hut I can relate because I too waited for the show to return. I'm a Saturday morning kid too even if I am a bit younger. I wouldn't say it's not for me there's just some storylines I felt like could be handled better that's all.

"completely corny with that era of anime" even though the 90s version was animated from the east. " In my childhood I stayed inside on Saturday morning just to see this show in the Saturday morning era" yeah, so did we with evolution in early 2000s ( which was still a thing) y'all are not that special.

Evolution is too different and characters and too young so it be a "continuation" of the old original series. Evolution feels very different like a different universe. So evolution can never be a continuation of the original old series. It needs to stay it's own line. Which show is better? That's up to personal taste. But X-Men 97 is the official continuation of the old show. Because it's continue the actual story. And so far X-Men 97 is the best. Evolution was a good show, but it is its own universe. It's too different. It needs its own continuation new show. If many people ask for it. If nothing then RIP to evolution

😂😂😂😂 OMG... and they call older fans "nostalgic"?. Hahahaha Evolution was a KIDS SHOW, CLEARLY AIMED AT KIDS, so much that they had to CREATE THE REPETITIVE OVERUSED BORING FORMAT of the "HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA" for kids. They have to put all the characters on High School so that kids had some interest and felt SOME empathy for the storylines. They even had to mimic Social trends of that time, by creating the typical "emo" characters of said time. They totally dismissed the ORIGINAL source story or ages of the characters. They made Mystique to run a whole 4ss school and a Fraternity house to try to "kill" the Xmen 😂. Also Charles Xavier being the most powerful psychic of earth sends their students to a school run by a maniac who want to kill them and put on risk all the other civilian no mutant students on the process. Lol😂. The show was entertaining and cool looking, But it could have as well being called "the fantastic powerfull children" because IT WAS NOT THE XMEN. If they could have created A NEW STORY WITHOUT ANY RELATIONSHIP with the Xmen lore, and keep all the same story, it would have being better, because the characters were empty vessels of WHAT THE CHARACTERS HAVE BEING DEPICTED FOR OVER 30 YEARS ON COMICS. As a funny, visually entertaining show with good music, was cool. As a X Men show... Neehhh... if fails A LOT.

For me growing up it was Xmen the Animated series why because it was true to how they was in the comics and it was just a great show now xmen evolution it's ok but even today it can't Touch x-men 97 the story line the character growth the main reason I couldn't stand evolution is because it made the xmen weak evolution reminds me of the dam fox movies like the xmen is a powerhouse team it lacks alot of stuff but to each it's own I respect your opinion tho.

Evolution and wolverine and the X-Men, Even the early movies.are what I prefer when someone trying to adapt a convoluted franchise like the comics X-Men expressly in the 90s.. Simple, Grounded and self-contained with its own theme, concepts and lore. At least you constantly get to see them facing bigoted oppression often while every time I catch episode of the 90s X-Men or a random X-Men comic, they are often be off planet, in a different timeline, or trapped in a dimension fighting gods, aliens ect. All had little to do what the X-Men is known or famous for. Plus they have better selection of characters to focus and connect with. Evolution and X2 are the reason I'm a nightcrawler and and wish they would give Colossus more shine.
@KingQwari15 күн бұрын
