I personally would recommend the *FIVE* episode Dark Phoenix story arc from the 90 X-Men Animated Series any day over this film for anyone who wants a perfect adaptation of The Dark Phoenix Saga. For me the Animated Series is the definitive version of this storyline so it saddens me so much when films try to adapt these amazing stories but just miss the mark by a light year. Same thing happened with Batman & Robin (1997) a film that pulled from the Batman Animated Series, episode *Heart of Ice* but did not come close to the masterpiece of storytelling that is the Batman Animated Series. Sometimes I feel like Animation is just the way to go for most comic book media but then we get some amazing comic book movies and shows and I think "Wait a minute this is amazing stuff" and then Madam Webb releases.... Then Invincible and X-Men 97 are amazing and you think "Maybe Animation is still the way to go".

This was the highest grossing X-Men film for 8 years. Yet it's considered one of the most hated. Brett Ratner replacing Bryan Singer as director was because Singer bowed out to do 'Superman Returns' (strange choice to some). This one moved a little quicker than the first 2 films and upped the action (a la' video games and animated series). Between Jean becoming the Phoenix, this new cure being made and Magneto staging a final attack to tip the balance did make for some goodness. So much was cut from the film as the alternate versions of some scenes and deleted scenes are actually pretty cool. Most of us following the franchise knew that this was the end for the moment. Fox wasn't done and more X-movies were coming. But last and not least, X3 did another milestone as the first-ever Marvel movie with a post-credits scene.

I think the biggest reason many (myself included) dislike this movie is because it took probably one of the most iconic stories in comic book history and completely changed it. They condensed a story arc that spanned over three years (from X-Men issues 101-137) making so many changes to the story and to characters that it was barely recognizable. Also, the wirework was atrocious. The comic book geek in me definitely disliked this one. But, to each their own. Looking forward to the next Cassie/Carly team-up. 🙂

Okay the one person that they completely messed up on was The Juggernaut. For starters juggernaut isn't a mutant. Juggernaut is a Marvel Comics character, a powerful supervillain primarily known for his immense strength and invulnerability. His real name is Cain Marko, and he gained his powers from the mystical Crimson Gem of Cyttorak. He's often portrayed as a nemesis of the X-Men, particularly his stepbrother Charles Xavier (Professor X). And of course NO GAMBIT!!! which by this point they should have introduced in this film especially when Rouge went for that "Cure". Leech, is where the Cure came from, but it's not permanent it only suppress or holds back whatever abilities you may have... If you're a level 5, 6 or above type mutant the supressent won't work. If you notice at the end where you see Eric manipulate that metal Chess ♟️ piece that's because he was shot 💉 with the cure 48hrs ago, and it was wearing off.

Ladies, as a longtime X-men fan who grew up reading the comics, I have a lot of grievances with some of the narrative shortcuts and misinterpreted character arcs in this film franchise. I must say, however, that I find it so gratifying that the core concepts, the drama and symbolism, and the characters are still punching through and speaking to you so clearly. You are picking up on every clue and deeper meaning so much so, that I feel I must amend how harshly I have come to judge these movies in recent years. A truly great reaction. Kudos. When you are done, the X-men '97 cartoon may be right up your alley. While the 90's show it continues from was clearly for kids, "'97" is one of the best X-men media adaptations ever.

With Marvel Studios MCU movies, I generally recommend release order viewing. However with the X-Men movies, I don't know that release order will be the most rewarding viewing experience for you with the X-Men, Wolverine and Deadpool movies moving forward. The movies, particularly the X-Men movies, literally jump back and forth across the timeline, and jumping in between X-Men, Wolverine and Deadpool movies might be narratively jarring. My suggested viewing order from here would be... "X-Men Origins Wolverine"to fill you in on Logan's backstory, and this one actually was the next released movie anyway. Then I would jump to "The Wolverine" which picks up Logan's story from this movie thst you just finished. The post-credits scene in this movie leads into an upcoming X-Men movie. This is where I would the next set of X-Men movies. X-Men first class X-Men Days of Future Past X-Men Apocalypse and X-Men Dark Phoenix. Then, and again this is just my recommendation, this is where I would watch the first two Deadpool movies. "New Mutants" is a stand-alone, set in the same universe but not featuring any characters that you know. Finally, I would cap the franchise off with "Logan", the third Wolverine movie for various reasons, not the least of which is that it takes place furthest down the line on the timeline. It's also one of the better movies in the franchise.

29:38 “That’s why the pawns go first” is just one reason people disliked this movie. That is so unMagneto like and breaks his character. Magneto cherishes mutant life but has little regard for humans. He would never knowingly sacrifice mutant lives for leverage and constantly refer to them as “pawns.” The writers and director changed for The Last Stand. It’s entertaining but my least favorite of the trilogy. Loved the reaction!

*Angel* & *Beast* The "Eagle" character is called Angel (Warren Worthington III) who made his first appearance in X-Men #1 (1963) and was an original member of Professor Charles Xavier's X-Men appearing alongside Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, and Iceman. Marvel Girl being Jean Grey's name throughout the original 1960s X-Men comics. Beast (Hank McCoy) also appeared in X-Men #1 and like Angel was an original member of the first X-Men team. During this time Beast didn't have his iconic blue colour or fur at all and resembled a human with big feet and hands. *The Little Kid* & *The Morlocks* The little kid who can "cure" Mutant abilities is listed as Leech a kid from the comics and X-Men Animated Series but the movie differs greatly from his comic/animated appearance. In both the Comic and Animated Series Leech is depicted as having green skin with big clear eyes looking closer to depictions of classic green aliens than a human in terms of his face. He was taken in by the Morlocks a community of mutants living in the underground tunnels beneath the New York area living as outcasts thanks to how they looked, unlike most of the X-Men excluding Nightcrawler and Beast most of the Morlocks cannot hide their Mutations and suffer the most from Anti Mutant, hideous and deformed according to the humans. The church scene in this film did showcase the Morlocks but I would've preferred more unique physical Mutations, film highlighted people with unique facial structures that made them stand out but I wouldn't say it made them look like a Mutants just normal people with a one of a kind face. Compare this to someone with spikes sticking out of their body to a person with white skin and massive red eyes. I feel like the people behind the film didn't want to go too far into the "monstrous" thinking it would scare away the more mainstream audience. Judging off how they made Leech a normal looking kid which is a shame as the Morlocks are such an important aspect of this world and so are Mutants who stick out as differant. But regardless we still got characters like Nightcrawler and Beast giving you an idea of how much a Mutation can change a persons phyrcial appearance. *Lack of Personality* Alot the background Mutants are pulled from the comics minus their iconic outfits so most of them are easy to miss. After watching X-Men 97 i started to re-remember how much personality all these Mutant characters have in both outfits and character designs something the films strip away unfortunately for alot of them. It's like Captain America showing up in a tank top with a star on it... I feel like Superhero films during the early 2000s were just scared of showing anyone with a colourful unique outfit. This is something we've thankfully overcome in the past two decades and even before this during the later half of the 2000s we started to see more personality come into the outfits worn by characters from Watchmen to Superman Returns and Spider-Man.

The reason this movie gets hated on is because "Dark Phoenix Saga" was a pivotal story arc in the entire run of the Xmen comics, and this movie was a pale illusion of an adaption of that story. But the franchise make up for it with "Days of Futures Past", another pivotal story for the comics and one of the best Xmen movies overall, and it is the one that JLaw stars in.
@Rocket13774 ай бұрын
Yeah, they really messed up the Phoenix Saga. Jean is supposed to get these vast abilities from an external source. It's not supposed to be a dormant power she always had. She literally destroyed entire worlds, and was put on trial by alien civilisations for her crimes. Limiting the story to Earth completely destroyed the magnitude and scope of the storyline.
@anonymes28844 ай бұрын
The reason it gets hated on is because it's a bad movie (the script is disjointed, key characters die with very little narrative motivation, it's missing the humour of the first two and the action is generally pretty lacklustre - all IMO of course). Very few that saw it could care less about the treatment of the "Dark Phoenix Saga" from the comics (that's not a diss on comics BTW - love 'em, wonderful art form - but they have nothing to do with how mainstream audiences view movies). (conversely, 'Days of Future Past' is a _good_ movie, with a coherent script and basically every beloved character from the franchise - again, very few that saw it could care less how well it adapted Claremont's arc. Also, Jennifer Lawrence is in 'First Class' too and yet you're the second person i've seen in the comments state she's in DoFP as if it's her first outing)

@@anonymes2884 If so few care to see the source material actually being used, then why have there been so many horrible failures in both TV and movies? I think you are underestimating how many true fans of the source material there are and how it does in fact end up affecting the business. When you change a beloved storyline or character, (which is the reason comics for example would sell so well) in order to adhere to an agenda, why would you expect your audience to consume it lovingly? You're basically just pissing off your fanbase. Sales go down. We've seen plenty of this in the last decade in both comic sales, TV, and movies. It also continues to get worse.
