Love your short little hops across the US in very interesting and varied aircraft. Keep it up! I wouldn't say no to more videos on the IXEG737 though, that aircraft is truly one of the best Flight Sim aircraft available.

Very nice! It's truly amazing how far these sims have come. Someone who was transitioning to the Commander back in the 1970's or '80s would have literally killed for such a good simulator. Great video, man. As a pilot I thoroughly enjoyed it. Makes me want a Commander more than ever now!

This video means a lot to me. My first memory of flying was in a commander when my father flew them. His name was Jeff. I also, a year ago went to the Keys to SCUBA dive like how him and I used to do. I know you didn't mean it, but ya hit my heart a little. Thanks, man.

I flew in an aircraft similar to this and holy shit take off and landings are the scariest. This plane throws around on the ground a lot, we were shaking side to side on the takeoff and landing. Also, the turbulence in the Bahamas is no joke! (Went from Nassau to Eleuthera)

I’m genuinely impressed by the modeling of this, specifically sounds on the ground like the beta to reverse growl. Very much like the real airplane. I’ve flown the 500B, S, and the 690A and B. The nose wheel steering is hydraulic in all of them and is controlled by the first inch or two of brake travel range, but the goal is never to actually ride the brakes. Seldom do we use the brakes during taxi other than to come to a stop in the Garrett powered airplanes, mostly beta and reverse in low condition. If you push just a little further than the nose steering range, then you reach a brake application in the pedals. I’ve known 690 brakes/main tires to catch fire as the result of actually riding the brakes during a long crosswind taxi. The rudder pedals must remain centered during usage of the nose wheel steering - If you apply rudder the nosewheel steering system actually shuts off and the nose gear stays pointed where you last commanded it to. During the takeoff we set 250hp while stopped, release brakes, add power, and very carefully use inputs of nose wheel steering below 40kts as the rudder is ineffective. If the nosewheel steering is just a little too slow, then you may get a small jab of brakes, but that’s generally considered poor form. Also, you’re slammed through the 717.5SHP redline on your takeoff! Maintenance would not be happy with you as they took both engines off to send them for a full tear down and overhaul 😉 Thanks for posting this, I’ve just started looking for a good sim model of the 690 and it looks like this one fits the bill.

Really liked the video, and it helped me decide to buy this plane. Now I noticed you mention around 4:50 that in the real plane, an orange light comes on at engine start. I have watched a start up video of the real plane, and checked it in X-Plane. You need to set the 'NTS test' button to the engine you're starting. Then, when you move the ignition from 'FUEL PUMP ON' to 'AIR START RUN', the orange light will actually come on, and extinguish during the start up. Not a major thing, but just wanted to share it with you.

Nice vid Jeff. Trivia: That stand-in ship model that pulled the "Philadelphia Experiment" disappearing-act was Cunard's Queen Mary 2 which has never visited Key West and is technically an ocean liner rather than a cruise ship, but the distinction is fuzzy, sort of like that bit of the scenery.

To combine the two MIA sceneries, you need to use Overlay Editor and open the Drzewiecki Design MIA scenery package, deleting every single object from the MIA airport itself (it takes quite a while). Click save when you’re done, and Nimbus’s MIA airport will appear for the MIA scenery while the downtown skyline will appear from DD.

Not surprised that a good part of the avionics don't work, I've been burned by Caernado stuff in the past too. Bought their TBM and it turns out that it doesn't work properly in XP11 (despite their claims) and the G1k unit was basically a paperweight. Got run around from both Caernado and Laminar when I tried to get a refund.

When you're on the ground and you say "let's get our props set up", moving the condition levers only adjusts the fuel governor to increase or decrease engine RPM (as noted by the N1 drop when you made the adjustment). The propellers are controlled by the Power levers only while on the ground ie. in BETA mode. You can have the condition levers at max or min it doesnt't matter when on the ground. No matter how fast the engine is spinning, the propellers will make the airplane move and to control the propellers, the power levers are used. BETA MODE ONLY ie. taxiing Once the power levers are advanced forward of flight idle, the function of the power levers is then transferred to the fuel valve to control engine power/RPM and the function of the condition levers is transferred to the propellers. There's some specifics on underspeed and overspeed governors and fuel topping governors that dictate exactly when the switching happens but its automatic for the most part and is only really applicable to the guy sitting across the desk from the examiner on the ground portion of a flight test. All this doesn't really matter since its a simulation but that's how the airplane works IRL if you are interested.

Usually, if there is a battery hot annunciation on the panel, it's because that aircraft has NiCad batteries which have a tendency to get really hot and thermally run away and potentially burn a hole in your aircraft.

Like I say; "everything happens on a map", and now: "airfields on satellite photos can tell a lot of stories." I googled and the story on the old plane next to Battery 232 near the threshold of pre-lengthened runway 09 is interesting. The Antonov An-24RV (Cubana CU-T1294) C/N 27308105 (built in the Ukraine or possibly East Siberia) landed at EYW in 2002. It was reportedly hijacked by a defector but that was reportedly a cover-story for a spy to infiltrate groups opposed to communist rule of Cuba. The AN-24 was then bought by a guy from Colorado for $6500, but he couldn't register it because Cuba wouldn't release aircraft's documentation. He sold it for 9X what he paid. Don't know status...the saga(s) continue(s).

Battery Temp-Hey Jeff, don't tell me they modelled the Battery temp as in thermo-runaway on Ni-Cad battery- will literally cook-off if you draw too much amps out of it-nasty thing, had it in a King Air back in the late 1970's. Not so much an issue these days. Did I miss the FSExpo wrap-up video?

I dont think you NEED to wait a few secs aftert turning on the fuel pumps as I think they are demand pumps, which makes them spew fuel as the engine rotates and creates vaccum (demand) by the movement of the cylinders, which makes sense to me because if it were to just spit fuel whenever its on, I think the cylinders would flood and it would be a hot start or something wouldv'e happened. I might be wrong though because thats just based of mechanical knowledge of 4 stroke land engines with either carb or injectors (cars bikes etc)

Hey Jeff, how do you learn to operate so many aircraft in X-Plane 11 so fast? I mean I'm a pilot IRL and I still wouldn't learn this fast! I'm really thinking of getting XP11 and DCS, but I won't be able to commit the time supposedly needed to learn to fly all the aircraft in both sims.

AWC i'm actually a PPL cessna pilot and you will learn the others planes quite fast. There are many tutorials all over KZbin. Just take you're time and you will see it's not that difficult :) many airplanes have interactive checklists, so the checklist shows you which button to press etc. After a des times you know what to do
