John Doe has what I'll call "punk bass wisdom" which Mike Watt possesses as well. Travel light, keep things simple, remember everyone's name, have gratitude for the past as well as for the present, and embrace technology as it solves the problems you actually struggled with. Ampeg Scroll basses are (based on what I've heard) the standard of salsa bass players.

Well I've always liked Billy's playing on a track called Devil Doll. White Girl is a melodic track with good work from Zoom and Doe. The Hungry Wolf is a catchy tune. Many great X songs to choose from. Well known live versions? Well...not many if any X songs are well known in a general sense. And only three live albums exist. Two are without Zoom, one of which is unavailable. And the other is all acoustic. The unavailable one is the best however and was released with a full length concert vid. It's called "X Live In Los Angeles" and the entire concert video is available here on youtube. Just search "X Live In Los Angeles" and look for the long form, pro shot video. It's very good and a good example of the band in peak form live.

I always loved X, the tone the approach very early rock roll and rock a billy sounding. Very clean overdriven tone and with the two voice harmony man, you can’t get a better early 77 style punk sound. And I would put Dead Kennedys in the same kind of guitar approach. Very rockabilly too and raw punk k n roll ❤❤❤

@@tuskedbeast No it wasn't "weird" for them. It's only weird to weird people who think being a "right winger" is unimaginable. Or going through a period in life when you're evolving and questioning things around you is "kookoo." John is perfectly fine with Exene and Billy because unlike some fans...he's not weird or embarrassed of his friends and those he loves. And has roundly criticized many of his fellow liberals as "hysterical" and given over to "great exaggeration" on his own accord. He and DJ have nothing but great admiration and respect for Billy and Exene and make no apologies for them or their beliefs.
