X4 Foundations: 7.0 Beta 5 - Sieging a Kha'ak instalation using Behemoths

Hello everybody,
Ever happen to have a nice sector, only to discover that you have a bug infestation?
Well, happen to me in Heretics End, big arse Kha'ak instalation. I usually use my terran Asgard lead battlegroup for such task, but since I had in the sector 7 Behemoths that the SCA kindly provided for me after some aggressive negotiation...now you have a nice, kinda of a tutorial, on how to use Behemoths to siege Kha'ak. :D
I'm not sure what improvements in destroyers sieging behavior the beta have brought, its kinda bussines as usual for me, using the tactic that I have show in the past. But if you spot differences, feel free to mention them in the comments.
I did spot some strange behavior, like when the subordonates recieved attack orders, the L turrets were no longer firing, and only the main batteries were used. The turrets settings were defend, and they were firing just fine in 6.2. I wonder if it has something to do that the center of targeted modules of the instalations were beyound the L turrets range....
By the end, my Asgard battlegroup arrive on the scene and engage the instalation, but most of the job was done by the Behemoths, so I hope no...reeee, click bait title, reeee....in the comment section.

Don't give the Behemoths that are in the sector for the Asgard that is sectors away. 😁

In 6.20 I never had problems with Khaak bases after using KUDA Tweaks. Maybe placebo effect, but before using KUDA I had impression that high attention was broken because the ships could not target the installation elements properly and it took forever to bring the base down. With KUDA my destroyers are moving around it more and then are more likely to destroy each element.

I have zero experience with modds in X4, 4.791 of hours according to Steam and I'm yet to install one.

... don't forget to collect the drops. Always good modding stuff there from the destroyed fighters. The Asgards magnet pulls a good range. Works on deactivated laser towers too btw. in case you dropped some. 😅

When you have a save as old as mine, some drops go over 5k pieces in the inventory, so most of the time I just let them be.😉 I'm familiar with the LTs retrieval, actually did so prior of recording, cuz the Kha'ak swarmed the Osaka I was on originaly, and was not happy with its AA capability, so deployed about 80 of them, great feature, along with the self-destruct one. 🤓

The installation is almost defenseless. That is an easy siege.

It was an easy siege because I've prioritised the defence modules and use my best tactics to make destroyers keep their distance. In the past, I had instances when Syns with purple shield modes, have gone too close to the instalations and blow up. Also, players on Egosoft forums reported losing wing of Behemoths in Kha'ak instalations sieges. If I would had just select a wing of destroyers and order them to engage the station, while ignoring the defence modules, things would have not gone so smoothly.

Ngl high attention siege might look cool and all, but its super long and tedious. You are basically babysitting a bunch of state of the art military ships so they dont stray into the turrets range. So my go to station clearing method is oos. Drop a wing of 10+ destroyers on something (asgards are welcome ofc) and just relax. They rarely get too close and even then oos they are basically racecars so its not a big deal. I cleared out 4 xenon sectors with 2 asgards, 8 syns and a couple behemoths in an afternoon. And i lost a single behemoth. And that guy died to fighters bc im a masochist and the xenon enchancement mods give small xenon ships missiles. I keep losing ships to them bc i keep forgetting that they actually pack a punch now. And to my delight it turns out the beta doesnt break mods except the occasional randon crash ofc, but its x4, random unexplainable stuff isnt rare

Is something that I keep saying about OOS, namely that i did not spend 1.500 euro (in 2018, now the prices for GPUs going, like the saying goes, to the moon, I imagine a similar PC is way above that) on a system that can handle X4 to watch green dots duking it out with red dots. 😉That is why I avoid "map playing" in X4 like the plague. Sure, I want that OOS calculations to be as close to the high attention results as posible, case in point I've keept "pestering" the devs with bug reports until we got better calculations for torpedo effects on low attention, but that was about all the interest I have in X4 "map play".

@@ragnos28 yeah i love seeing big ships headbutt eachother, but sometimes function has to come before form. I love the asgard beam, its my favorite thing ever, but if its a lot easier to do stuff oos, time is the big concern. Do i love watching shit blow up? Absolutely. Is there a risk i get annoyed by ai stupidity? Probably. Will i wait in high attention for my asgard with its poo aa to shoot down the 20 annoying fighters or i go oos and let it rip then tp back? Most likely. I also found out that no matter what ungodly pc you have, there will be a point where the game will be a turn based strategy game. Carriers are especially lag magnets, every time it orders the fighters to do something, it just eats up your cpu like there is no tomorrow. Its not the ships or projectiles, its the sheer amount of processing that hogs your fps. Sadly fighters are hilariously weak against capitals in oos since they cant dodge there. I probably lost more bombers in high attention to them being stupid and ramming the target only to get shredded by their friendlies firing on said ship than enemies shooting them. But what can i say, being on the receiving end of 5 blast mortars isnt a place i want to be. I slept on the blast mortar for a long time but man, they dont give a f about what you put infront of them. They really should make a large flak turret that works like the blast mortar. It could be an alternative for the pulse. Kinda sad that we have all these turret options that are inferior to the good old flak+plasma combo. They could be utility turrets like the large beam, something that makes them stand out i guess

@@kermitthefrog1176 Oh, I get the time sink X4 is, after all, Steam says that I have 4.792 hours on it. 🤭And I tend to play X4 at night to relax after work, so often an hour or two of X4 combat action, is about my daily quarter of gaming. 🤓 Thats the beauty of a sandbox, no one is giving you "flak" for not being able to camp Baium in Lineage 2 for 12 hours (the old ones know what I'm talking about 😅). X4 is like that joke about group "fluff"... if you habe bussines to attend to, you can just leave. 🤣 I do sometimes get some freeze frames, but then again, my Raptor just spew out 100 Chimera and the xenon just send about the same amount of fighters (if not more), so something is about to give. 😜 Also, I get that my PC is "just" the recommended specs: CPU: Intel Core i7 @ 3.20GHz GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB DDR5 RAM: 32 GB Dual-Channel 1329MHz DDR4 Hard drive SSD Kingston 250 GB I see players comparing their super gears performance in Egosoft forums, and I feel like watching Godzila and King Kong duking it out, while I know perfectly well that I will never achieve their "size". 🤪 In regards of BMs, yeah they will be the new meta, because with the fire and smoke effect the beta introduced, takes a while for the destroyed capital to "register" as a wreck, so the torpedo wing keep firing entire salvos at a destroyed ship, dramatically increasing the ordonnance consumption. So is better to make the swich to the non ammo requiring S bomber weapon, the Blast Mortar.
