Xair to iPad via Ethernet

Joe Colaneri - Thank you for sharing your setup! My XR18 have been teasing me for some time during my switch to an external router. The only reason for getting the external router is gigs in bars are just impossible, when there's little space and too crowded on the 2.4 band. I'll adapt your solution into my setup as a backup! I bought a ‘3 in 1 Lightning to RJ45 Ethernet LAN Wired Network Adapter For iPhone 8/X iPad’ from eBay which does the job of the switch. It was 27 AU$. I only need this adapter and a Ethernet cable. Follow above instructions. I did find I connect to XAir, then turn on airplane mode as the very last step.

I suppose the only difference is that only one controller (you) no band member can control their monitor. I’ll buy one though, for back up if the laptop goes wrong!

Why do you use a router and USB hub? My X-Air is setup so that I plug in my iPad directly into the X-Air's ethernet port (using a lightning to ethernet adapter). You have to enable DHCP Server on the X-Air first before you can direct connect though. I've had the wifi bug out on me at my last event so now I'm strictly direct connect to ethernet. For the MacBook, I use a thunderbolt to ethernet adapter and plug the ethernet directly into the X-Air's ethernet port. Basically easy plug and play setup. With the iPad, I still have to type in the IP address.

Hi George. I bought a lightning to ethernet adapter and im trying to connect the mixer with my Ipad using the ethernet cable but havent been able to. How do I set up the DHCP Server? What numbers should I put on Ip address, subnet mask and gateway? If I go to DHCP Settings on the X Air it says Ip address is 0.255.255.1 Im typing that on the Ipad but it's not connecting.

@@BlackPugMusic To set up the DHCP Server I used the X Air software on my laptop. You just go into the settings and change the Lan to DHCP Server.. Then when using my tablet I connected an ethernet cable via "Smays USB Ethernet Adapter" into my tablet.. I changed my "Console IP" to 192.168.1.1 and it worked.

This is disconcerting to read when you’re contemplating purchasing an XR. If I can’t depend on WiFi with even an external 2 band router but instead have to hardwire my iPad ( I’m not a tech guy) I’m left feeling using an audio snake and a simple Yamaha MG10XU for the small band applications I use to maybe be the way to go? Simpler with less stress worrying about messing up the gig? I like the idea of being able to adjust from anywhere in the room with an iPad but if it’s that tenuous a situation, what’s the benefit other than having to not carry an audio snake?

@@willnottsubmitt3514 I feel ya. I got mine just to have for small gigs with only a few mics. I bought a pelican case that holds a tablet as well so you could easily carry the whole thing. The number one reason for me to use it is the amazing EQ and gate possibilities for each channel. I don't use the tablet while walking around the room or anything, so hard wire was fine because i just set up the unit on the tech table and my tablet or laptop is right next to it at all times.. Really its awesome because I dont need any more external gate/compressors or 31 band EQ units.. I dont mix rock bands, but conferences with people talking, so feedback is totally unacceptable.. With this mixer you can ring out your room and dial in the sound to excellence..

Why not just use a laptop? The idea of the iPad/wifi is so you can mix from out front or move around the stage and dial in monitors. This restricts you from moving away from the X18

Why do you need airplane mode, wifi, and Bluetooth off? Also the ip address on your ipad said 192.168.20.4 yet you typed in192.168.20.3, why did that still work? Curious, I like the idea for reliability!

why do we need to put the router ip instead the xr18? I can only guess it scanned the 192.168.20.* subnet and found the xr.. I'm going to do that next week and was wondering how to do it but I'm more confused now.. le'ts see :)

To give the x air a stronger connection wirelessly, can you connect the router to the x air and use the router’s signal rather than the x air’s?

Yes. That’s the whole idea. Buy a cheap 2.4 -5gh router. Plug from the XAir to the router. Flip the XAir wifi switch all the way to the left (Ethernet) Now you look for the router on your wifi list on your phone or computer. Connect to that. Issue is, sometimes mobile phones in the pockets of the crowd will find this wifi and it too may stop connecting, so the back up is hard wiring.

Does the ethernet-to-usb connection supply power to the iPad? Couldn't quite see the charge indicator. I'm also assuming that the Ethernet switcher/router is needed because in setting the Remote switch to ethernet the XR18 doesn't supply it's own IP address?

When I connect the switch to the i Pad, and click on the ethernet connection , It shows USB 10/100/1000 LAN. Any suggestions?

Will this allow you to get the X16 and XAir to talk to another program in the iPad, such as Auria? It looks like the usb in/out and camera connnection kit only work on the X18, and WiFi won’t let me get XAir and Auria to connect. Thanks for any ideas you might have.

After 3 years of use suddenly today my XR12 Is Not Connecting To The Mixer Software on my Laptop... I have tried 3 different laptops and the the mixer is not generating a SSID signal during rescan. So no connection is happening. I am having problems connecting XR12 To software laptop. Purchased June 5 2017 and the unit has had minimum hours of use in my home studio. Watch the video and Any solutions offered would be appreciated. @RmDA

Solution is to reset mixer , it solved the problem
