Nice video, good details, I use the same setup however I dont use the router, you can share your internet connection via the Macbook, basically connect the XR18 to the MacBooks RJ45 or as I do use a USB to ethernet adapter then go into settings and share your connection, connect the iPad to the MacBook that way.. I also use the iPad as an iTunes remote, really useful to have your mixer and music remote control all wireless across the stage...

QUESTION, can the laptop be wired directly to one of the open ports on the router, and have a non wireless connection for reliability at a gig especially if their is a lot of cellphone interference? If I were to connect another cat5 cable to the MacBook, would I just plug the other end into the spare port 2-4 of the router? (The blue side and not the internet side), would that make the connection better as it won’t be over wifi but direct connection instead ?

Yes you'd have a better connection than wifi because wifi is more subject to interference than a land line connections. Of course your Mac should be limited to the distance of the cat5 cable.

Hey Gerald, how many wireless devices can be connected to the X-Air 18 simultaneously using an external router? I know without a router just 4 devices can be connected.

@gfire_productions 2 жыл бұрын
Besides the router, I also have a 4 port switch in the box. That allows me to Network the XR 18 and up to my four microphones that I usually rack in the box for live sound events. Now as far as devices I connect to the XR 18 to actually control it, I usually have my iPad and my MacBookPro for myself but I have also allowed bands to use the Q Mix app on their phones to connect to it so imagine my two controlling devices which are my iPad and my MacBookPro plus up to six bandmembers with cell phones and the Q mix app so that they can mix their own in your monitors. Otherwise I don’t know the maximum amount of devices I can connect to the XR 18.

Hello Oscar, thanks for your comment sir. You can use the built-in Wi-Fi when you're in the area that is not heavily RF congested. Some examples may at a local bar, club, venue, at home. I really only got into the Wi-Fi because I needed a way to protect others from trying to log on to my XR18 because they thought it was wifi(internet). Way too many people was doing that I noticed my iPad was consistently getting knocked off of it. I was also having connection issues with the built-in Wi-Fi of the mixer at trade shows because of all the other Internet sources out there. For the most part though, the built-in Wi-Fi will work. Thank for the like and subscription to our channel.

G Fire Productions Thank you for the quick response. So if I understand your comment, you’re saying that we would use the WiFi option on the mixer, rather than Access Point, when we want to protect the network from others trying to connect to it? I’m not very good with internet stuff, sorry! I just had the impression that: 1. We would use Ethernet option to run a cable from mixer to laptop. 2. WiFi option for an external router. 3. Access Point option for wireless & router-less connection. Am I correct?
@gfire_productions
@gfire_productions 3 жыл бұрын
@@ItzTooSik Here is the break down. 1: Access Point - connect an tablet/CPU to the XR18's built in wifi to control it wirelessly. 2: Wifi Client - Connect your CPU to the XR18 via cat5 cable to control the mixer. 3: Ethernet - Connect the XR18 to a router via cat5 cable then connect your CPU/tablet or to the router to access the mixer for a more secure wireless connection than the built in wifi.

However, I have connected my iPad and Mac to control the mix my self while allowing up to 6 band members with cell phones for them to use the X Air Q app to adjust their own monitor mixes. I'm curios to why you wanted to know and actually I want to know now.

Afternoon brother question are you still using this digital mixer to this day as your main mixer? Because I’m an analog guy I use a Yamaha MG12XU to run my sound that’s what I’m use too I like to keep things simple the only reason I want to get and learn the basics of a digital mixer is so I can have iPad control when I have to walk out front of house and make sure it all sounds good but I don’t know wich is the easiest digital mixer to operate or buy between the Behringer, Soundcraft and even mackie has one I’m confused at this point lol!

Good afternoon bro. Yes, to this day I am 100% digital when I do live sound. I switch between my Behringer XR18 and X32 mixer depending on how many inputs are needed and of course monitor mixes.. Being digital has definitely gave me great advantages because I usually set up on the side of the stage and only go to front of the house with my iPad these days. Analog is definitely sample however you are stuck at the mixer to make any adjustments or changes. Also with analog and mixing front of house, you have to rely on going back-and-forth to the stage to make sure the band is OK with their monitor mixes. As for choice of mixer here is what I absolutely suggest, research which one you find the easiest to operate and meet your specific needs as an audio engineer. There are lots of great options to choose from and everyone you mentioned are great brands as well. I chose Behringer simply because I chose Behringer at the time and have been with that mixer for years. All of my analog mixers are Yamaha and one Tascam in my studio. I have different applications for different mixers but whenever I do live so I definitely use Behringer. I have an analog version of the Krakin featuring a Yamaha MG166X: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fIixYYioarWIgrMsi=rxXR5oh6Il54fHD4and a smaller version with the Yamaha MG06x mixer in this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYKrZ6l8naqlpMk

Hello Gary. The router in my box is not connected to a modem or the Internet. It only serves as a secure connection between your iPad and the XR18 or in your case the MR12. When you are using these mixers in "access point" they seem to work great in an uncrowded environment. As soon as you enter in the trade shows are crowded environment everyone else also sees that as a Wi-Fi and tries to connect to it resulting in bumping your iPad off of it. To solve this problem use a router and you will have a more secure connection and make sure you password protect the router.

Thank you James. I have limited knowledge on access routers however, if it allows you to password protect it, you should do so. Just like the built in wifi of the XR18, I was getting kicked off because too many people with cell phones though my XR18 was wifi so when they all connected, my iPad was getting pinged off. A password protected router fixed that issue. Other than that consider rebooting your router and the XR18 also. Double check the switch on the remote section of the XR18 is in the correct position which is ETHERNET. Check for a faulty cat5e cable. Please share how you fixed the problem my friend.

@@gfire_productions Thank you for your reply. I spent the day today working on the problem and found the issue as you mentioned in your reply, I rebooted the XR18. Prior to that I went to the router directly connected to the X18 and did not see the XR18 SSID or IP address. After the reboot, vola! My Ipad connected to the Access Router without any configuration changes. I will also look into the password protection option. Will I need to put the password on both the router connected to the XR18 and the access router?. I have a cat45 cable between the router and the access router. Currently, the XR18 is switched to Ethernet. To confirm, I used a computer on the router end and connected to the router via WiFI. I then downloaded the XR18 executable and launched the XR18 GUI. Then I was able to confirm the connection in the Setup section. Any idea what will cause the XR18 to need a reboot? Thanks, I really appreciate the help.

Hello Ömer. I do not use any DAWS at the moment however you'll have to connect your xr18 to your PC via USB cable so that your DAW can recognize it as an interface. The Wi-Fi is necessary so that you can connect a tablet or a PC to control the XR18s app called XAIRi Edit. I don't believe you can connect to your PC with just Wi-Fi and Control Logic Pro. I hope this helps.

Hello George. Yes sir you can. If your xr18 is in a permanent location church, club, studio, home, etc… and you can run a cat5e cable from the router to your mixer, you'll be able to connect through the router that is providing your internet just the same as if it does not have internet like mine. @gfire_productions Ай бұрын
You will need to know the name of the Wi-Fi network and the password. First you will need to connect to your mixer through one of the other to ways so either Ethernet or Access Point like I did in this video. Next open X-Air Edit to connect to your mixer through one of the two ways I mentioned previously. Click on the Setup button in XAIR Edit and then click the WLAN button. Here is where you enter the details for your router or home network not the XR18. In other words you will need the network name and the password. For the “security” type click WPA2. Then put in the router SSID name and the password. Click apply to send this information to the X air mixer. Quit the X-AIR-Edit app and turn off the mixer. Select the middle Wi-Fi client mode and then turn on the mixer and re-launch X-AIR-Edit. Once I make sure it's restart it you should find a net work and prompt you to connect. If it does not connect reboot your router. Lastly if Wi-Fi client is not working out for you and the two methods that I showed in this video certainly works. Please let me know if this helps. Keep in mind that if you do not have your own router when you go out to makes you will need the Network name and password from the venue if you are performing it. This is the reason why the majority of us probably do not use Wi-Fi client. I think Wi-Fi Klein is good for when your mixer is on a good stable net work like at your home and especially a net work you can trust to work. By bringing my own router as part of the set up I know it's going to work flawlessly because no one else can get on my router unless I give them the password. So in theory access point is for the access point or built-in Wi-Fi and good for close distances but other people could pin you off of this very easily if they think it's a Internet Wi-Fi and try to get on it. Wi-Fi client is good for your own net work to connect your mixer too but will change as you go to different networks and you will again be subject to the venues reliability of their router. Internet is you bringing your own router with you ensuring you are very few other people have access to that net work and password for most stable connection with your tablet, PC or MacBook if you or MAC user

Is there a need to get an external wifi? Is the built in wifi on the Behringer reliable in your opinion?
@gfire_productions

Hello Jason, In my opinion, the built in wifi is ok but only in settings where there is NOT a crowded RF environment or a bunch of other people trying to connect to it. When I'm at trade shows and or large events it sucks. What happens to me with the "built in" wifi is others think it is Internet so they try to connect and it pings or knocks my devices off the connection. The fix: having a password protected router and since then no issues unless I get too far away from the router with my iPad. I hope this helps. I recommend this cheap router: amzn.to/39uBhP8

@@jonasbarbery7193 I'd be also at this point. In the beginning of using this mixer, I would be in a place where they were not so much potential for RF interference. When I started doing very large gigs I noticed my iPad was getting kicked off the mixer a lot and learned later is because people thought it was Wi-Fi and they tried to connect to it for Internet use. This is called pinging, so my iPad was constantly getting kicked off of the mixer. With a password-protected router I am the only one who can login to it now and anyone else who sees my router only sees the router but can't touch the mixer. My kung fu is strong. lol

That is correct Scott. The purpose of the built-in Wi-Fi is so that you don't need a router. However like many of my counterparts I have found out the hard way that in certain environments the built-in Wi-Fi is not that great sometimes. The router makes my connection to the mixer secure because it is password-protected and no one else can connect to this mixer but me. She is also true you can password protect your building Wi-Fi but the fact is people can steal ping your built-in Wi-Fi enough to knock your tablet off of the mix. If people ping your router it will not affect your connection to your mixer. I hope this helps bro. To reiterate you do not need a router if you are using your built-in Wi-Fi.
