After buying a steamdeck and an Rog in the last year, I couldn't imagine a world were I chose to buy back into some console brand and lock myself into a limited games catalogue in closed system designed to bleed every bit of cash out of you it can, it has been shocking discovering just how much freedom you have over any console experience since buying those devices and it would be difficult to go back

Have you tried remote play for ps5 with steam deck?
@lgd661920 күн бұрын
@matdug Yes I have and it wasn't awful, however the point is more I would rather not have them at all as they are clearly taking advantage of their closed systems to nickle and dime players with over priced games and unnecessary fee's for services that they created the need for in the first place

I finally got a Steam Deck, and I absolutely love it! I have a gaming laptop, but the Steam Deck is so much better for emulators and lighter games-not really for AAA titles. What I love most is being able to lie in bed, relax, and play games, which I can't really do with my laptop. Deck can aleady run/render 4K on its display. It is downscaled and looks pretty good on 800p display.
@herreramartos23 күн бұрын
If I'm not mistaken, the higher the original resolution, the better the upscaling is, so rendering from 480p to 1080p may not have the result people expect.
@NerdNest23 күн бұрын
I’m just throwing numbers around.
@ekinteko23 күн бұрын
@@NerdNest Yep. Modern Games around (GTX 1080) 2017-era kind of struggled hitting the 4K resolution. We had upscalers and sharpeners for a while, but they were more of a bonus. Nvidia merely commercialised it with DLSS. If you remember correctly, going from 1800p to 2160p was the sweet spot. It was really iffy going from 1080p to 1440p. And it hasn't improved THAT much today. Going from 720p to 1080p is doable with cutting-edge hardware and software, technologies working together. But we are not at the point yet of upscaling 540p to 720p, let alone 1080p. At least not with a fidelity that is half decent. And in case you're curious, the results would look something like Witcher 3 on the NSwitch. It is an admirable attempt. And this is running on a 2017 handheld that is not much more powerful than a 2005 console. The game looks like something modern that has been defiled. Doom, Eternal, and Wolfenstein don't look much better. And the best example of what you are asking is to see the port of ARK on the NSwitch. That is where we are with developers in this day and age. There is very little Quality Control and they are absolutely relying on technology as a crutch, which gives subpar results, rather than to invest the extra 6-9 months to properly polish the software.

I can see a playstation handheld working in a way if they can do there PSN store being able to download games that you may have being able to work on the all games you may have already purchased or gained via there monthly subscription. Make it like steam. I would also say dump the online fee if they would like to keep the network with a sub monthly fee then make it optional while still giving games like humble bundle does. Microsoft can do this as well, and add on there gamepass subscription if your near a network to stream otherwise to still be able to download the games to the machine themselves. If this were to happen though I could see that they would pull all games off steam since now it would be direct competition to there handheld market. Last mention I would say is they could also offer a console to match the handheld or work with that will play the games at higher frames, and more graphical fidelity no different then having per say like an older pc running a GTX1070 vs a newer pc running a RTX4080 as an example both systems will run the games, but obviously one will do much better.

Yeah not going happen for mobile ps5 hand held device. Maybe 5+ yrs or more. 1- GDRR6 req more power and does run hot / req very good cooling. 2- Desktop Zen 2/ RDNA2 SoC/APU also runs hot/req beefy cooling and power. Thus why Sony went with liquid Metal for both ps5/ps5 pro. 3 - nobody atm has a handle held device that can do 10+ Tflops in hand held. 4- LPDDR5 or LPDDR5x still can’t compete with Vram / GDDR6 has way more bandwidth 5- battery life would be horrible. Sony could release a ps4 capable in mobile device. The steam deck is great device and is close to ps4 performance. Sony could totally release a mobile Ps4 capable hand held device 2+ Tflops. Ps5 mobile device? Haha no not posable atm. Even gaming laptops at moment have vastly cut down gpus compared to desktop GPU version. Maybe 5 to 10+ yrs will see more capable mobile devices. Just not feasible atm for mobile ps5 (10+ Tflops) hand held device. Sony would have vastly cut down resolution of performance of ps5 games and they prob all run 30 fps. So many ps5 games would req patches to be downgraded. Don’t get me wrong. Valve,steam deck, steam os and Vulkan has proven to the world that Linux is way better os for better performance, and also proof how bloated windows 11 true is. Gaming with Linux on pc is so much better and it’s lighter os vs bloated windows 10/11. Can’t wait when Steam OS finally comes to desktop PCs. I Can finally ditch windows 10. Valve said steam os is coming desktop PCs and other mobile devices. We just don’t know when. I hope it’s before EOL of windows 10.

Exactly what I was thinking. In my opinion with how we're starting to have more and more problems shrinking down silicon process nodes due to quantum tunelling, we might not see a ps5 perf handheld device with good battery in even in 10 years. Perhaps I'm too pessimistic but to me things seem to be heading that way. Still, it does not have to be as fast as ps5 to play the games, especially the gpu - as mentioned in the video running the games at a lower resolution on a small screen could be a reasonable compromise.

i don't understand why more companies dont bother bringing games to android. You have this huge market that is untapped. most phones today have more power than the switch. If anything else comes from Sony I will be surprised .. but if Sony or Microsoft release a handheld , it will be a streaming device that uses gamepass or playstation plus. There will be no standalone handheld that plays the games directly on the system. Taking away the nonsensical idea of a handheld powerful enough to run those systems and just looking at other requirements , how on earth could you have a handheld that needs to have the ungodly storage. Its never going to happen. Both companies have too much invested in their cloud gaming memberships so a handheld from either will be cloud gaming based.

Nintendo 3rd party sales are dead if Sony makes a handheld. It would relegate the Switch 2 to a 1st party only device, because most people wouln't realistically buy downgraded 3rd party multiplatform games on Switch 2 when they can buy them on more powerful handhelds. That's why Sony are doing this, to kill Switch 2 software sales and stop people from buying 3rd party games for Switch 2 when they can buy them on PlayStation store instead. On the handheld PC side, it's not really an issue and doesnt really matter to Sony, because Steam is everywhere, it's on your PC, laptop, handheld and soon to be on a standalone Steam VR headset. Steam isn't a handheld or a console platform, it's a PC platform, which device you choose to play your Steam library on is up to you.

Microsoft should NOT be in the games console business. They should be pushing their Game Pass subscriptions with their huge AAA game catalog to EVERY SYSTEM out there. SteamDeck, PS5, Switch, Windows computers, Macs, and Linux computers and the never ending list of handhelds already on the market. They should just try to dominate the software side of gaming, and leave the hardware alone.

I will tell everyone the future: Nintendo will release a weak console with the Switch 2, maybe with better joycons. About 1 or 2 years after the launch of the Switch 2, Nintendo will shut down the actual eshop in order to sell to the fans the same games, all over again!, but it will not matter because Nintendo fanboys are a serious case of brain damage, so they will buy the game again adn even will prise Nintendo... Sony will launch a restrictive system, very powefull, they will create a new tier of PS+ so they can get more money charging fans twice. With the launch of the PS5 Mobile the exclusives that came to PC 5 years later, now will came 10 years later, because Sony will not release an exclusive for PC as it will end up in a Steam Deck. It will not matter because Sony will kill this new portatil console of theirs, just like they killed the Vita back in the day to focus on the current main console, back then it was the PS3, now it will be the PS6. Microsoft it's the only real competition for the Steam Deck. If they can find a way to make a nice interface and run games natively on a portable Windows, even those games with the launcher we all love; add the amount of games available with Game Pass, and it could make Valve have a bad time... but in the end nobody will give a rat's ass about a Microsoft console. Valve will release the Steam Deck 2, and it will be better, better graphics, better battery, better EVERYTHING, and everyone will be happy to have one and don't fall into the temptation of buying a portable game console... unless you live in latin america, the Deck 2 will never be launched here, just like the first Deck, because Valve don't give a shit about latin american market... So, if you are lucky enough to live in a first world country and you can't decide what portable console buy in the years to come: go with Valve, it's a sure win.
