Xbox One X in 2023 - worth it? (Review)

The Xbox One X turns 5 this year but it's held up really well, bridging the gap between generations. Anyone have one right now, or maybe the og Xbox One / One S? How is it holding up for you? Side note: Highly, HIGHLY recommend an external SSD for installing games- definitely, definitely worth it.

I have an XboxONE X which I less than regularly used from 2017-2021. It’s in mint condition and back in its box now that I have a PS5. It served me well but I was still drawn to my base PS4 due to the better games library.

My gf just gave me her one s , and I love it and have had 0 problems with it , but I rlly only play 2k and madden , so for those games it's best to have the newest generation system , so I might upgrade to a next Gen console

I have an Xbox One X right now. In fact, I’m still using it as my primary video games platform. (Specifically, I have the limited edition “Hyperspace” version that came with NBA 2K21. I got the bundle for only $299 🎉 right before the world ended in 2020 lol)

I have a Xbox One X and use it everyday. Its a very good console and I got it for 300 dollars on eBay with a controller and Halo 5. The only downside is some new outcoming games are not gonna be able for the Xbox One line up or PS4's.

I have both a One X and a Series X, and I will say the biggest upgrade right now is simply the FPS. Elden ring for example, looks great on the One X, but it is so much slower and the dips are more aggressive. If you can get a Series X I would jump on it, as a lot of older games are getting the 60 fps boost. If you can't, the One X is still a great system.

Same I have both, I thought about getting the Series S to replace it, but I still have Blurays and 4k Blurays I would like to play in my bedroom and the Series S is lacking a BR drive so I am keeping my One X for the bedroom

Xbox One X is still great. I got the series X and my brother has the Xbox one X it's still looks really great when compared with a series X. The graphics of the Xbox One X still look really good today. Besides the loading times being faster just mostly the frame rate is higher in series X.

I also installed a 2TB SSD internally to my One X. Completely changed how smooth it runs games that need to load textures quickly (little to no texture pop-in...hello Cyberpunk for example) and how much smoother the UI runs...hint it's actually responsive! I do own both of the new Series consoles and for all but the most demanding current games the One X does the job just fine. It does show it's age not hitting 60fps in the big titles like the new ones but if you haven't been spoiled by that you won't care anyway.

I own this console for over two years now. My last console was the 360 that I sold back in 2010 because I hardly ever used it anymore. I don't game that much but I caught up on the recent classics like GTA V, RDR2, Ori blind forest, Fallout 4, Doom and all the Gears of Wars games, all at a discount btw. What a blast. Currently Im replaying all the Gears games and still have Metro, Tombraider, Mafia Def edition, Rayman legends, Ori will of the wisps, Doom eternal and Outer worlds waiting for me (also on a discount btw) . So I'll stick with my One X for the next couple of years. It's also an excellent multimedia device as it does all the streaming services, internet radio and plays my blu ray collection. Even my wife uses it every day for the latter, it's just extremely user friendly. A true beast of a machine!!!

I upgraded from the One X to the Series X with the expansion card, it's made a world of difference, mainly the loading times, the HDD in the XOX was way to slow, although was a brilliant console.

@@ZeroGrav360 Yeah the Series S is a better console and more future proof than the One X, even if the internal HDD was changed to an SSD, you can only store next gen games on an SSD but can't play them(only the Xbox one version), makes it obsolete for anyone to buy the One X, it was good for its time.

I was lucky enough to land a Scorpio Edition One X, and even through I did get a Series X, it still gets a lot of play time. It is a great console and I have been looking to do the internal swap to an SSD to give it a bit more life. But I agree over all the One X is still a great console.

I *literally* just purchased an Xbox One X on eBay in near mint condition for $193(+$15 shipping, $222). I also bought an Xbox One S 1TB for $165 in pretty clean condition. I have a Series S as my main console. I plan on reselling the One S for roughly $220, they’re on the market right now for above $200-$230 for the 1TB model. I’m also collecting consoles at the moment as a side hobby, probably not the best investment atm- but it’s fine with me.

Bought a barely used 1x for $330au with 9 games a month ago. Was my first console purchase in over a decade as I have been a pc gamer since 99'. Got to say I was quite surprised how good the games look and play. It has been good to play racing and fighting games with the family too. Playing fps games is so much harder though. Did the internal ssd upgrade straight away and couldn't be happier for the cash outlaid for the system. Got basic games pass for 3 months for $1au due to it being lbgti pride month too.

Previously I was a 360/PS3 owner. Never got a Xbox One console, but wanted a Xbox One X. Ultimately, I went with the PS4 because of JRPGs and Sony exclusives and I recently was able to get a Series X with GamePass. I absoulately love the experience I''m having with it.

I personally disagree with the “series x isn’t a necessary upgrade yet” because I made the switch from one x to series x and the differences were massive. I got way more CPU/GPU power which made for better fps and instant loading times and actually the option for 4K 120 that I didn’t have on my one X before. It also holds more ram for bigger games so it’s for sure a worthy upgrade not unnecessary

Well it has no XSX exclusives except flight simulator. You can play all other games on Xbox One X. So yeah I agree with this video

Btw it runs last generation games way better than the 1x can. The 1x still runs a lot of games at 30fps. Maybe you like 30fps but I can't handle it

Near instant loading on XSX or loading measured in minutes on Xbox One X. The benefits of upgrading to the Xbox Series X are numerous. It’s not just about exclusive games, it’s also about your total experience.

Hell yeah it is. We’re still not getting many fully next-gen games for the current gen yet. I only upgraded from my Xbox One X because of the Halo Edition Series X. The funny thing is I only upgraded to the One X because I got an insane deal on it. I’ve still got my One X though and won’t be getting rid of it. It has features like 3D support, an optical audio port, and even the HDMI-in port that I wish the Series X could have. I don’t care so much about the HDMI-in being absent though. I still have my original Xbox One as well as I’m not one to trade in consoles.

My cousin had replaced the internal HDD in his Xbox One X with an SSD and his performance and loading times for warzone was similar to my Series X. Series X was def more stable at 100-120fps while the One X was maybe hovering around 60-75fps, don't quite remember tho

I had a Xbox one X since it came out I adored it I love the performance and 4k boost to my game and it was my first 4k blu ray player. However The jaguar CPU and the 30fps to me is what made me switch The series x has been incredible running games at 60fps for me was worth it 4k 60fps looks so much better than 4k 30. Even FPS boost and auto hdr are incredible features too. Quick resume and the ssd storage are the best parts of the new Xbox consoles. If your on fence about a series x from a Xbox one X trust me if you play this System everyday those FPS boosts are worth it.

I have a One X and I am happy with it. But the annoying thing about the console is how loud it gets in some games like Battlefield 1. It's almost like a jet engine and that's why I want to get a Series X.

I would Recommend changing the Thermal paste to Arctic MX-5 and upgrading the internal HDD to a solid state drive it will make a noticeable difference on cooling and load time.

Perfect timing on this video for me, I have game pass subscription and play via the cloud, planning on getting a console for my daughter for the holidays this year, still debating on the One X which they occasionally have for around 250$ at my local vintage stock or a Series S for around 300$. (Obviously the series X would be the preferred option but I don't have 500$+ to drop on a console) These videos definitely help me add pros & cons on which is the better option.

If you do not want to open your Xbox to install an ssd I highly recommend to use an external ssd as the ports are usb 3.0

I have the xbox one x and series X, and while the One X can produce great visuals, I would say getting the Series S is far more reasonable nowdays. The series S will be signifincatly snappier, more games would run at 60 FPS, and the loading time + quickresume makes a lot of difference, FPS boost is also supported on more than Hundered titles form the xbox one and 360 era. I also imagine the mast boost in CPU power will come in very handy in the near future. The jaguar core are already showing it's age in games like control, cyberpunk . The series S will be able to play games for next 10 years, while the One X will not.

Xbox series x is definitely worth upgrading, the increased load times and extra frames and better graphics in some cases is worth it, or if your short on cash getting gamepass ultimate and using cloud gaming isn’t bad

Unless you have the monitor or tv to maximize the graphics and fps for the Series X (because its what the whole Series X is for) I’d Rather Recommend getting the Series S

@@dc-yu9mv The Series S's storage was lacking five years ago. Today, it's an utter joke. 364GB vs 802GB. It's also far less future proof than the Series X. Some people gaming at mostly 4k60 (which I imagine most people probably have a 4k tv anyway that are deciding/have decided between the two consoles) will appreciate how much better games look on the X, others playing on a higher refresh rate monitor (even a 1080p one) will typically have much better looking (and they even run a little better typically despite massively more resolution) games than when playing at 120fps on the Series S, which can easily dip down to sub HD resolutions at times. 120fps modes and Ray Tracing is also relatively lacking compared to the Series X. As it turns out, the Series S cut many corners to get down to its extremely attractive price point. But ultimately the price of storage currently makes it something I can't recommend to most people.

Seems like it's worth it as a decent 4k Blu-ray player alone if I can find one cheap enough. And that extra power are pretty sweet I know there's a lot more powerful Series X out there but I can't afford it at the moment and I just happened to like the simple understated design of One X more than XSX as well. One X looks to be a nice taster for upscaled 4K and native 4K gaming on the cheap.

@@chickenwings6172 sorry my friend but 4k on the one s is Just for multimédia content, not for games. Be sure to check it out for info. The one x can play some good 4k games like rdr2. Gears 5 and many others. But all my TVs are full HD 1080p. And i have the original one for comparison here. I also own all playstation consoles, Just not ps5 yet. I have all ps1/2/3 and 4 models. Including the PSP and vita. The ps4 for me has a better image quality than xbox one phat. Very minor aspects. But the pro system, they can refine the image, way better than the original (base) systems. But at the time if i knew what they were in core aspects, i would never buyed the pro consoles. Not the upgrade i wanted. I wanted different ui, better options and functions, better and different like they advertised, like a New gen system. See the conference in 2017 launch vídeo. You Will understand.

I absolutely LOVE my Xbox ONE X and it's right next to my PS5. I have NO need to upgrade to either the Series S or X at all because the majority of games are still available for last generations of both Xbox and Playstation. I do love the fact that my Xbox One X is a lot SMALLER than my gigantic PS5 which is the size of an internet router.

Great system - coming from a PS4, the graphics/frame-rates are excellent and I've always preferred the controllers for X-Box over the PS4.. just don't like fiddling with batteries/charging packs too often. Your on point Josh and i have a One X Project Scorpio Edition that I bought new and a PS3 that i was going to replace by getting a PS5 which didnt happen because its still hard to come by so i have decided to wait for the PS5 Pro. The One X has been a Great consoles that still blows my mind I went ahead and upgraded the internal HDD with a Evo 870 and what a difference. Forza 5, Halo Infinite and just about every game old and new Loads fast, I also Changed the Thermo paste to Artic MX-5 and Thermo Pads to Thermo Grizzly which makes the consols really quiet. This console will hold everyone out till the new Series X Elite comes out in which is when i will replace my ONE X but that time I believe that Xbox One will be done for besides for Madden and NBA 2K games.

sorry to break it to you but i guarantee a mid gen refresh aint coming this time. the ps4 pro and xbox one x were manufactured because 4k TV's got affordable in the past decade so sony and microsoft essentially made a higher resolution model. the same thing is not going to happen with 8k tv's, these things are going to be expensive for a long long time. plus the ps5 and series x are already so much better from a hardware perspective than the god awful base xbox one was in 2013. however i bet if you wait there will most likely be a "slim" model of the series x and ps5 which consumes much less power and less heat.

I’ve got the one x and the PS4 pro. I wasn’t that impressed by the one x if I’m being honest. Most games that were multi plat didn’t look that different to me. Some games looked better on the pro, at least with my Q9FN. All my Sony games are enhanced apart from one game (order 1886.) I have a few games that look trash on the one x because they aren’t enhanced and sometimes games that are meant to be enhanced don’t always boot up with hdr and look terrible. Firmware patches caused this. Only thing I really play on my one X is state of decay 2 and that’s in short bursts. The games on the pro blew away the best that the one x had to offer in my opinion. The pro definitely has a better HDR settings system which made my games look better on it than they did on my one x which only got a HDR calibration setting added late in its cycle. Problem with the one x calibration was too much black crush and games took way too long to install for my liking. For me the pro was the system of that generation and best place to play games because it had more AAA titles available for it.

I still love it compared to my Series X because you can play off of any HDD or buy an external SSD that doesn't have to be proprietary like the Series X. I only really use it for new games (which there aren't many off). Or if a game is on the Series X that I WANT to play at 60fps, though some don't give you a choice on it, another thing I like about the One X. If I want to play a game at 4K 30 I like to have the option. Especially on games that don't NEED it. IMO that's what they're pushing for more than resolution alone on next gen consoles. Also the design is so much better in my entertainment center along with my old Pro, 360, and PS3. So I like to collect the good old consoles. No reason for a PS5 either as long as the new exclusives are still cross gen, and the improvements are minimal. Which is the case and I don't see any PS5 only games on the Horizon any time soon. I remember buying a Microsoft certified refurbished XBOX ONE X in 2020 for 180 on eBay right before the big explosion on price. They were going for almost 400 a month or so later it was crazy! First thing I did was swapped HDD to a 4TB SSD & re pasted the CPU with some artic silver and it ran quite and fast! I ended up selling it for more than my series X on eBay because of SSD size but man I loved it! Even more than my series X at the beginning because of the bugs with MW. If you could find one in the very low 2s go for it! Just do the upgrades you will be very happy!

Sorry if I seem like I'm asking the same question twice, I just want to be absolutely sure before I buy an expensive SSD. I've seen others in the past say that a 4TB drive installed inside the Xbox itself won't have all the storage available to use and that 2TB is the max it will see. If that's changed with the latest update then that's great, but I need to be thorough.

I still play on my one x and it’s still pretty good. The fact that it was discontinued made it so game developers don’t test some of their games for the console and so some games run like ass or run at 30fps. I wanted to get a new gen console but I couldn’t find one so I got a gaming laptop. I still play my Xbox all the time though.

I got an Xbox one back in 2013 and close to the release date of the series x and s i did some thinking and number crunching and realized that with the lack of new game releases and expensive storage, the series x just wasn't worth it to me and the series s without its disc slot and weaker specs was pointless. So I did some shopping on kijiji (Canada) and was able to pick up a 1 year old gears of war 5 limited edition Xbox one x for $250 Canadian in immaculate condition with a controller. Looking back i think i made the right decision. My plan is to continue playing on my one x until the next iteration of the "pro console" comes out. Hopefully by then there are going to be more games and cheaper storage

Also don't forget for more casual titles, Xbox Cloud Gaming is always a good option too since it remotely streams from an Xbox Series X. Just have a good internet connection and make sure the proper ports are open on your router.

The one thing I couldn't unsee when I got mine was that its design was a mirror of my PS2 Phat which felt odd lol. Sold it as the new games for the series I loved dropped the quality, and gamepass had games I already finished back then. For people starting for the first time with xbox; it with game pass is a great option, though I would still try getting a 360 slim to allow more original xbox games to be played. (Edit: still boggles my mind we cant play og Halo CE smh)

If you have the series X , you dont need to rush out and upgrade. Im running both side by side and yeah the Series X does 4k smoothly but the One X holds up real well next to it.

I have the One X whilst my son has the Series S upstairs. He is the one regularly playing games. I kept mine for playing occasionally and watch 4K blu ray, everything increasingly rare unfortunately. But I do like the tech. Besides with Gamepass I play games with my phone wherever I am but I need to buy one of those Razor Kishi controllers to make even more convenient.

Thanks for this video, I appreciate your point of view. I still love the xbox one x and it's stunning performance, I guess it's gtx 1060/1070-like. Actually I own two of them, a black model at my desk next to my pc and a hyperspace special edition underneath my tv. In germany they became very cheap at the end of their lifecycle, I paid 299 euros each for both of them. An series x upgrade makes not much sense at the moment for me, both screens are 1080p and there are still so many titles to play, which are one x optimized but not series s/x enhanced as you mentioned. Instead of a ssd I use an usb Stick, that has a reading speed up to 400mb/s, significantly faster than the hdd. There's only one thing that really sucks. Forza horizon 5 has no 60fps mode anymore, so I moved on to play it on pc. rtx 2060 super does a great job on this game

Yeah, I definitely get that. Already having a 1X and a solid PC makes getting a Series X a bit redundant. Although, a Series X will outperform that rig on probably most games but like you said at 1080p, you're probably better off having higher fps than super sampling higher res down to 1080p at lower fps because console graphical settings are a joke or literally non-existent on plenty of games.

I had a 1x until just recently it was the battlefield 5 special edition gold rush. I sold it to get a series X because I really wanted to play flight simulator. Now that I have it I don't find myself playing that particular game as much as I thought I would. But having said that I don't feel like I'm getting all that much more than I did with the One X. I think he was correct when he said if you have a one x right now you're good.

I still have the Project Scorpio One X. Modern games look great on it. Dying Light 2, Far Cry 6... Funny, when the 360 came out, I waited a bit and bought the Halo 3 Edition. The Xbox One I got at the Midnight sale. Than upgraded to the One X. Still don't have the Series X. Not interested in the Series S. Would like to get the Halo Infinite Edition. But didn't happen. Now I think I should wait for a model refresh.

The One X is really starting to show its age imo. More games target 4k rather than smooth framerates, really wish more One X games had a performance mode. I've been wanting to sell it, but it's the platinum taco bell one and people always get a kick out of hearing the taco bell "bong" when it boots up.

I recently got gifted a One X from my best friend which is in neat condition, it literally an amazing upgrade from my One S who couldn’t even handle Quantum Break with out overheating, dropping frames or downgrading the resolution (the One X takes it like a champ) I had in mind the Series S/X for a while but now I’m focusing my efforts on owning a PS5, the only thing that I’ll be upgrading on it will be the HDD to 2TB SSD and adding new thermal paste and pads… boy I’m sooo happy with it!!!! 😊

I have my one x and absolutely love it I don’t really care about speed or graphics. To me if you can play your favourite games on it, then just enjoy gaming, I’ve loads of games to complete yet playing far cry 6 and gears 5 and been playing power wash simulator which is good fun. So I ain’t planning on getting next gen yet I am completely happy with my one x and looks absolutely fantastic on my 4K tv.

Im one of the few and odd that still rocked a 360 from 2007-2021 (a casual gamer). Soo you could say, me getting the Series X was a major upgrade. LoL I went all out and got the Halo Infinite edition just to keep the Halo special edition theme going. PlayStation 5 was tempting but I can’t get used to the controller and growing up from the Sega Saturn then Dreamcast, Xbox controller is more my taste.

I am lucky enough to have the One X and the SX, I have them in separate rooms and i like occasionally trying games on both to see the differences Resolution wise the One X kicks ass, the SX is king for frames and loads and just overall speed The one x is definitely still viable tho, i play Forza horizon 5 in near 4K on one x but it’s locked at 30fps I haven’t added an ssd , YET but I’m very tempted now

yeah that's why I upgraded from the One X to the SX purely for the fps, my TV is only 1440p so im sure the SX wouldn't be a difference in graphics but the fps makes the SX superior by far

I could see the writing on the wall with these mid gen refreshes. It was so obvious that gen 9 were going to be everything gen 8.5 was but more. And when Xbox One eventually has support dropped, I’ll be all set with the Series X. Was also able to secure the PS5 at launch. Pretty much good to go for the next 10 years. Best money I’ve spent on video game systems in years. And because of the shortages, I was able to sell my jank OG Xbox One for near what I bought it for.

I picked up a Project Scorpio One X system recently for $100. I plan to throw an SSD into it and play at 1080p. Why? You might ask? Because I am a totally sane person that doesn't chase the "4K 30/60" BS. As long as frame rates are stable and it looks good, that's what matters. The Series X being literally 30fps faster at 4K isn't worth literally $300-$400 MORE than what I paid just to play at 4K when my gaming rig can run rings around the Series X and make it look like a stupid box. I just want to play childhood games without them looking like total crap because of the frame time/frame rate.

I still use my Xbox one x I have 3 hard drives connected to it which gives me 15tb on top of its own internal storage I have over 500 games stored on it all in digital format never need to swap out discs and still have 2tb of storage left and I see no need to upgrade to the newer consoles yet and as you say I play most games in 4k

I use to recommend the One X but unless you find one new, which you won't for a good price. It's pointless, these used/refurbished ones are just so loud and run super hot. Unfortunately the thermal paste just doesn't last. And people who refurbish them definitely don't know how to change it properly. Also after having a Series X you won't want to go back. But I rarely play the PS5, because the only thing it has are mainly Ps4 exclusives sort of updated and remakes/remasters. And I never play 3rd party games on Playstation. Still love the simplistic design of the One X though. Wish they still sold them new.

Bro I purchased multiples of the Xbox one X consoles and did a hard drive change with a extremely fast SSD and than my friend has a serious X however I got mine running faster than his and we're only in 2022 however truth be told I'm good with this pure 4k One X 🦂 Scorpion, now I'm waiting on the huge graphical leap so let's say like the jump from Xbox to the 360 .. thats the next jump I'm waiting for so not the next Xbox after series X and not the next after that one and not the next after that one etc. Lol but yeah thanks for the insight 💯👍

The OS is pretty brutally slow and the internal SSD I installed helps massively with that for sure- but I don't think it was absolutely unusable, just annoying. An external SSD for games helps a lot, an internal is the best if possible- unfortunately 2017 was just a bit too early for that to come pre-installed.

I’m surprised you didn’t mention Series S’s 120fps that the one X can’t do, FPS > resolution in my opinion, playing halo infinite, CoD, gears of war etc at 120fps is great also Xbox Series S has FPS boost for many Xbox one games and older plus the SSD is game changing and quick resume, so if the only argument for the one X is it’s resolution then that’s not that great of an argument, i would go for the series S and upgrade to the series X when I can

I’d still reccommed the one x if they had any sort of performance mode for most games no matter how many compromises that need to be made but most games are still 30FPS. Not worth the buy when the series s is the same price or lower.

I went from PC to one X to PC again, but my main deal is physical discs. I love having a real library of games in my bookshelf to look at and maybe sell one day. And also there's the 4k UHD-player which the PS4 pro doesn't have. I have an SSD in my one x and I love it, but so many titles don't get any advantages like DS3 or Resident evil 1+0 which almost can run on a phone today. That's why I went back to PC, my favourite games didn't get boosted.

If your whole arguement is physical disc then that makes no sense. Physical games on PC don't exist anymore. They haven't for a very long time. Everything is digital. Steam only give you the option to put the games on disc once Steam no longer exist.
