Xbox One X No Signal HDMI Repair - If you're not getting a signal with your Xbox One X two of the most common causes are either a bad hard drive or an HDMI problem. In this video I show you how to check both issues and how to repair an HDMI problem.

About This Video: There's no signal from this Xbox One X so I take it apart and first check that the hard drive is working correctly. When that doesn't fix the problem I continue taking it apart to get the motherboard out so I can check the various HDMI components. I then replace the main HDMI (retimer) chip and then put everything back together to see if it works!

probably by the looks of things, add flux, use hot air station to heat the chip. delicately wriggle it until it is loose. remove it and replace with the replacement. wriggle that into place nicely. add more flux and hot air and then you should be done.

@TronicsFix, are you using an IR preheat plate under the board? I bought a replacement tip and have been holding hot air on the chip at about 800F and it will not come off. I think the heat is wicking away on the ground plane but wasn't sure if the components on the bottom side of the board would fall off.

Fantastic detailed video, what kind of glue did you use to loosen the timing chip and also put back? I am assuming that was a hot gun/hair dryer used with the soldering flux. Also how long did you have to keep the hir dryer on it to loosen the chip? I have taken the console apart, just like you explained in your video will wait to figure out the soldering flux part from your end. TIA

Hey dude. Great videos. Enjoy watching. I personally have this issue. 2TB SSD seemingly 'died' or there was simply no HDMI output. Changhed back to known working original 1TB Seagate HDD and still no output. Scary thing? The console has been used a handful of times since purchase. I won't have the skills to fix based on the miniature nature of the chip on the motherboard. Did you buy a replacement chip or source from another console?

Thanks for the video, man. My wife's console had this no signal issue. She took into a shop and they tried a different hard drive and replaced the HDMI ports. I think they tried something else but I can't remember what it was. I found your video on this and thought it was great, so I went back to the shop and had them replace that retiming chip. However this didn't fix my issue. I'm wondering if they used the right chip as they game me a different price than what I found online. I also had to wait a couple of weeks for them to get it. The chip that they installed does not appear to be clearly marked like the original. Anyway, is there any other possible issue other than the HDMI port, a different hard drive or this retiming chip that you can think of? Thanks in advance.

@@Josh.Davidson the red ring of death happens because of bad thermal dissipation. Modern days a low temp solder is used and hte360 heted above the melt point of the solder used.
@Josh.Davidson
@Josh.Davidson 3 жыл бұрын
@@mikewalker2531 No, that's completely and utterly false. Even if you take off the heatsink, the chip will reach roughly 95-100C (varies by revision), then enters the EC_THERMAL state. In this state, the fans run at max and the chips are held in reset (means they're not active, it's like the system is off). 2 red lights (not 3) flash on the front for phats, and the center light flashes red for slims, and the power button won't shut it off. Once it gets low enough, it will turn the fans off and wait for the user to restart it. The temps never exceed that maximum, such is impossible. The solder melt temps of leaded is 183Cish, and the lead-free used on the 360 needs 217Cish. So not anywhere NEAR hot enough to melt it. That's all a giant myth. In addition, the fans are drive dynamically by the SMC, not like the fixed fan curve of a PC, so the system has no thermal issues. It's one of the worst myths in the whole gaming industry and was created by people with no technical or engineering knowledge. Lastly, the reason the towel trick temporary revives it is not because it melts solder. Because as I said that's impossible, it would shut down first. It's because the problem is the defective flip chip design in the GPU. Same problem many laptops had back then. Heat is known to fix defective flip chips for a very short period of time because is messes with the underfill and c4 bumps. And also the Xenon CPU heats up far faster than the Xenos GPU even with the far bigger heatsink, in the original 90nm design on the units that failed. But yet the CPU is almost never failed.

A way better way of knowing if it’s an HDMI issue is to use the Windows 10 Xbox app and turn on streaming from the Xbox to the Pc. If it works then your HDMI port is not working. Personal experience.

Hi, I wanted to ask - I removed the Retimer IC with my hot air gun, but I accidentaly blew away one resistor (R8B12) and as it is a 0402 teeny tiny resistor, I have no way of finding it now. Do you think it would still work if I bridged the connection? Getting 0402 resistors under 100 pieces per order is difficult and I do not know the ohm value of that resistor :/

Was that paste you used resin flux? & what temperature would you recommend for the heat gun when removing and re-applying the chip?

Damn, I just got this issue today. I used the Xbox yesterday just fine, and I usually dust and keep my stuff clean, so I don't have any idea of how this happened. Unfortunately, mine is outside warranty, and they're asking $250 to fix it, or replace it with a refurb. Instant hell no to that, glad I found your video, cause I might as well try fixing it myself now. My console turns on and I'm able to stream it to PC and boot up what ever I want to use as usual. With that said, I'm guessing it's HDMI and have a lot of work ahead of me.

TronicsFix, I've watched some of your vids and subscribed to you.. I have a rework station but its a 909d+ I have used the heat the chip with 440c my air states its less than or equal to 24l/min. do i not have a rework station that can handle taking HDMI switch chip off a x box 1x? any help would be appreciated. Thank you.. I guess you called it a re timer chip. also i am using liquid flux that states its a no clean flux. but once its heated up it almost turns solid. so I did clean with some ipa...

What type of screwdriver bit did you use to unscrew the first two screws on the back of the XBox? Mine look like hex screws, but none of my hex bits are fitting. One is a little filled with dust, too, so it's hard to see visually what type of screw it is. Thanks!

I would really like to do this project myself. I contacted Microsoft and they're saying itll take a month or two to fix and minimum $250. I would rather learn my self. What is the liquid or gel, that you placed on the microchip? Is that to remove the seal and do place a different gel to create a new seal when you replace the chip? That was basically the only part I didn't understand. And it seems pretty important.

Hi! I was playing my Xbox One X at work (12 hour shifts as a boom gate operator both day/night) and its my sanity keeper lol. Lost all display through the TV, console boots fine and by using a HDMI to VGA adapter with a 3.5mm audio jack I can actually get picture at 576p or 720p but not 1080p to my PC monitor. A quick google search found you! Would a faulty TDP158 Retimer IC be my issue? Of course I’m just guessing it could be something else, just strange the HDMI to VGA cable works up to 720p but a normal HDMI cable doesn’t give me anything...
