What they are doing is nothing anyone should be cheering about. They are effectively killing the brand/hardware. The one platform that will benefit the most is Playstation because eventually everything can be played there. The one question I have is why is Xbox making next gen hardware that won't sell? They keep telling everyone an Xbox is not needed so why waste time and money making something they keep telling everyone they don't need?

Xbox should hold on to some kind of identity by keeping their Mascot Games exclusive like Halo, Gears of War, Forza, Fable, and the upcoming South of Midnight and Clockwork Revolution. And any game made my Microsoft Studio or The Coalition should remain on Xbox. And games from Bethesda and any studio Microsoft acquired, then, yes, port them to other platforms. I just think they should maintain their identity which seems like their losing.

Had been an Xbox console owner since the beginning. Had a feeling at the beginning of the year Microsoft was going this route. Xbox Series X will be my last console. Glad I built a PC back in February. I own a PS5 for the exclusives. If this is legit the Xbox console will be dead in the near future. They say another Xbox console is coming in the future. I would bet it will be canceled. Microsoft will go full 3rd party and maybe make a handheld. Future common sense will be just to buy a Playstation so you can play both Xbox games and Playstation/3rd party games. Or just build a PC

We are living in this current situation where PlayStation and Nintendo has no real competitors in the console space. Xbox has been really flexible with their decisions being changed from time to time where it reaches at this point where their brand recognition IPs are heading to other platforms. As much as I hate to say this Microsoft needs to stop making the "traditional game console" and just make a Windows based game console that's open that is designed with the same mindset as the Steam Deck. They can make a Box version and a Handheld version. It just makes the most sense to me.

Utterly disgusting. PC only just became the best gaming platform. Sony overcharging for 15 fps more, XB putting all of their games on PS, and companies making quality handheld consoles. Looks like PC plus Switch is the best way to go. With the massive steam sales, it is becoming better to not even buy a console.

Definitely PC and Switch for sure. Spiderman 2 has show that Sony games are arriving even faster so if you have some patience then there's no need for a PS5. I played on Xbox since the OG, even through the bollocks with the Xbox One launch but at the start of this gen I got a cheap PC to see how I'd like it and then got a 4070ti build last year, love it. Still got my Series x but it's there for Blurays, the library I built up over the years and to play 360 games (tried xbox emulation but it's such a pain in the arse compared to Playstation or Nintendo). Looking forward to Nintendo's next system knowing it has backwards compatibility.

PC has been the by far best gaming platform for a LONG time. To put things into perspective there was an estimated 1.75 BILLION PC gamers in 2020. The best selling console to date is the Ps2 at under 160m sales. The console market screwed itself over with console wars and putting up walls even within the same ecosystem in an attempt to force hardware purchases. It didn't work and we're left with a really small and stagnat market. The console market has been the SMALLEST market on the video game industry for years now with no real significant projected growth unlike PC and Mobile. It's only bigger in size than the nascent cloud market which has just started and is projected to skyrocket. Don't get me wrong, the console market is still worth billions of dollars, but there just isn't growth there and that's a result of the BS console wars and consoles failing to actually be an invitation to gaming for non gamers en masse. Sony is overcharging because they can't spread costs over more gamers while costs continue to rise. On the other hand Xbox is expanding. Nintendo is doing their own thing, which equates to having the best margins by charging the maximum price for first party games that aren't nearly as expensive to make as other publishers and charging as much for hardware as possible (when you consider that the Nintendo Switch is WEAKER than the Xbox One and PS4, then all of a sudden minimum $300 for it is audacious and Nintendo doesn't do sales often).

The whole industry is even moving towards multiplatform (except for a small Japanese village called Nintendo 🤭). E.g.: Ratio X360 - PS3 1to1, XOne - PS4 1to3 (just under 200 exclusive content, to just over 600 exclusive content), if you now XSeries - PS5 maybe 1to6. But those numbers are only console exclusives now, because after Xbox 2016, PS is now bringing all their games (except a few older titles like Bladborne) to PC (even Nintendo, see Lego Horizon). Sega had always released a lot of exclusive titles for PS, then they said they were going multiplatform and had the biggest successes (with Persona around 20 million sales), they confirmed the multiplatform strategy. Rockstar with GTA, previously console-only, only recently confirmed the multiplatform strategy. Square Enix has just said that they will no longer enter into exclusive deals (i.e. with PS where they offered a lot of exclusives), a new partnership with Xbox and they confirm the new multiplatform strategy. MS Xbox is talking about offering all their games to as many players as possible, up to almost all or all games for PS/Nintendo as well. The PS CEO has just confirmed that they want to go more multiplatform and release more for PC, whether they will stop there (see Madden, Lego Horizon ec). The industry is changing, as with physical sales, every year there are more digital and less physical purchases. Some games only offer digital or limited (Stalker 2, Age of Empire 2/4, Hi Fi Rush, Grounded, Pentiment, Sea of Thieves, Baldurs Gate 3, Alen Wake 2, many indie titles etc), PS with over 70% digital purchases and the first digital-only console on sale (PS5 Pro, PS5 still had both models on offer), Xbox with the Series S also purely digital for the first time, Xbox with 80% digital purchases, PC with +99% as almost nothing is produced on disc anymore and even Nintendo with now 50% digital purchases. The future will be exciting, but everyone can see which direction it's going in, multiplatform and digital, then most likely cloud and streaming 🤷🏻‍♂️

Being able to play all my digital games on my Xbox handheld will be so awesome!! I hope they have a feature where if you put a disc in the Series X then you can play that game digitally on Xbox handheld. I think it will be the same or more powerful than Series S. Which will be great for Series S as that console will get alot longer support. Also Xbox cloud saves work so easily ever since Xbox one came out the cloud saves have been a default feature.

People who don't own an Xbox can still find many ways to play Xbox games via (Fire stick, Samsung TVs, mobile, PC etc) future Xbox hardware will literally become pointless and will cost them millions in loses as most will just ship to PlayStation or PC. I fully expect to be playing Avowed and Fable on my PS5. If there becomes any confusion on this then they’re on shooting themselves in the foot. I have a Series S but I’m not getting any more games on it.
