In this episode we're covering the FN FAL.
It's a semi-automatic weapon, unlocked at level 32.
The FN FAL, or 'Fusil Automatique Léger' - which translates as Light Automatic Rifle - is a Belgian weapon, manufactured by Fabrique Nationale d'Herstal.
It was first produced in 1953, and would become a definitive example of a post-war battle rifle, and the western counterpoint to the Soviet AKM.
The development of the FAL began in 1947, in the wake of World War 2 - with the increasing inadequacy of traditional bolt-action service rifles for infantry combat, and the advent of effective automatic rifles, such as the German Sturmgewehr 44 and Russian AK-47.
The era of the select-fire battle rifle had begun - a politically charged time, with former allied forces dividing Europe in two - North America and Western Europe forming the NATO alliance, and the Soviet Union and Eastern European states uniting under the Warsaw pact.
The FAL would be the cold war service rifle of choice for many NATO states - and would eventually be adopted by over 90 countries total, with 2 million units produced.
Such was its ubiquity, the FAL was nicknamed 'the right arm of the free world'.
The FN FAL fires the NATO standard rifle cartridge - the 7.62x51mm.
Magazines are of a standard box type, and in Black Ops are available in both 20 and 30 round capacities.
Damage is high, similar to the M14 in that the FAL will kill in 2 bodyshots out to middle range - but lacking the slightly elevated headshot multiplier.
Rate of fire is semi-automatic, but is capped at 625 rounds per minute - faster fingers may hit this rate, but your shots will prove more effective if you fire more slowly, and allow the recoil to settle.
Recoil is moderate, with the weapon generally kicking upwards and - somewhat unusually - to the left.
Fire too quickly and the recoil is enough to foul your aim at a distance, so moderating your fire rate is wise to ensure accuracy.
At close range, recoil is less of a factor - so a faster rate of fire might be more prudent should your opponent be in the same room as you.
Aim time is standard for the assault rifle category, at 250 milliseconds.
Reloads are fairly average, at 2.5 seconds - but with the lower-than average magazine capacity, this may creep up on you if you're not careful.
It's worth noting that the FAL's hipfire performance is the worst of all assault rifles - so it's best to always aim down your sights, and ideally avoid close range encounters altogether.
The FN FAL is a devastatingly powerful assault rifle that rewards those who can handle a semi-automatic weapon.
Only the M14 bests the FAL's damage per shot in the assault rifle category - and in most circumstances the FAL will kill just as quickly.
Recoil is generally pretty easy to handle, too - boasting a lower degree of kick than the M14, even if it is a little more inconsistent.
The semi-automatic fire mode will limit your effectiveness up close - even with the high damage, it's difficult to accurately direct fire upon a close-range assailant.
This weakness means you have to be mindful of your positioning, and take advantage of cover points to ensure you can place your shots accurately without interruption.
If you fire from the open, a mid-ranged enemy with an automatic assault rifle may very well be able to press their advantage.
Nevertheless, with vigilance as your watchword and in adopting a prepared position - the FN FAL will truly shine.
As long as your shots are accurate, you'll make short work of the enemy - killing in two shots where your opponent may need 4 or 5.
The right arm of the free world's enduring popularity is testament... to FN brilliance.

It's a word play that already originated thanks to MW2 multiplayer. FN FAL - could be read as "effin fail", as perceived by some players - was on the other hand praised by others, who nicknamed it EPC WN (this is obvious enough). So, there you go.

I think it's funny that they used this model for the game, it's a mutt gun. The barrel/ frontsight/ upper receiver is a eastern European model, probably the German G1 with a Stg-58 carrying handle (the 3 slot handguard, non-folding charging handle, lug flashhider, and of course it's measurements are metric.) the lower/ stock/ rear sight block is the British L1A1 SLR with a late model fiberglass/ plastic grip (the stepped stock, folding rear sight, and it's measurements are inch) so instead of the FAL (Fusil Automatique Léger) which was what only the guns out of Belgium were called, it should be the "G1SLR" (Gewehr 1 Self Loading Rifle)

So many great guns in Black Ops, and the FAL might be the most under-rated of the lot. I'm a big ACOG user, and I tended to use the FAL with either just that, or I'd run Warlord and add Dual Mags. Saying that, I think the iron sights on the FAL are probably the best in the game, meaning the silencer is a very appealing option.

Full-auto was found to be useless with battle rifles which is why some of them were adapted into designated marksman's rifles firing only in semi-auto. For example, the M14 was the basis for the M21 and the M25 (as well as the M14 EBR and its Navy counterpart, the Mk.14 EBR, both classified as "battle rifles"). 2:47 Well, that's fine, seeing as how it's not an "assault" rifle.

If you don't like warlord, try hardened pro. The 80% reduced flinch when being hit is really useful for accurate.

I think that the optics are a waste on the FAL, since it has beautiful irons. My preferred attachment is the Masterkey, to compensate for the poor CQ capabilities. Hardened Pro is an excellent perk on the semi-autos so that an opponent returning automatic fire doesn't throw off your aim. RPG is a good secondary to route out those pesky campers. This is one of my favorite weapons, and I have a friend who loves it too, but has a nearly entirely different loadout.

I still play Black Ops 1 today on PS3. I tend to flip flop using all of the weapons, but whenever I come back to using the FN FAL, no other weapon feels as satisfying. Not even the M14. The FN FAL in BO1 is a masterpiece

I prefer just the shotty attachment, it has plenty of ammo and great ironsights, all it fails in is close range, so its a pretty dam good choice imo

i used the -FUN FAL- w /extended mags and put dual weild Python with it. motion sensor for equipment and for my perks i chose hardline, sleight of hand, and hacker (pro versions for all). For my killstreaks i chose care package, Rolling Thunder, and Attack Dogs. I played this on launch and got 19-0.

My all time favourite class used an M14 with the ACOG - I never had any issues with hit detection and did pretty well. I don't know where you are getting these 'poor hit detection' issues from.

I can certainly see the reason in that; however, I found stopping power to be a greater problem than any counter-UAV perk. I'd much rather have somebody coming at me with immunity to radar than with a two hit kill Glock 18. Keep in mind that I'm not hating, just stating my opinion.

I have to say your perk selection is wrong in my view. Although its the persons choice, I feel that the FN FAL does a better with dual mags, flak jacket, hardened pro, and tactical mask pro. I feel flak jacket is always the right choice if you're not a fan of ghost or you are capturing the objective. Hardened is perfect for this gun because of its low fire rate. If enemies are beind cover you use its precision to kill anyone behind cover. It is a winner and definitely one of the best guns in BO.

I'm not sure how a MOTION SENSOR can outdo a Blackbird. It updates as slow as a normal Spy Plane by itself, and you can only have one or the other. You can't have both a motion sensor and a jammer. It's not like you wouldn't find the camper several seconds in advance and kill him that way. Ghost Pro also can't counter motion sensors, Hacker Pro does that instead.

yes, you are indeed correct. The Blackbird does help out a lot. But there are things known as motion sensors and jammers that accompanied with ghost, can infact out do a black bird. I cant tell you how many times ppl with ghost go super camp mode while a blackbird is in the air. But thats a totaly dif. subject.

Those perks are definetaly useful. BUT, ghost in that particular perk slot does by far way too much. Theres a reason why ppl choose ghost over every other perk, and thats simply because its a perk that instantly allows u to be invisible to the other team.
