Crazy how I was such a die hard Xena fan in high school, but I've since become an even bigger fan of the show "Spartacus", so much so that I watch the entire series at least once a year since it's original release, that I know recognize Lucy more as Lucretia, the evil conniving beeotch wife of Batiatus. And it's funny, because she was the reason I started watching Spartacus (I used to love Xena but can't stand the horrible effects and acting now! 😂), but ended up loving the show and hating her character and was glad when she died. 😆 She plays evil too well. But she's one of the few actresses I really like (would love to see her and Sigourney Weaver work together, as they both played badass characters that were badass just because they were badass and not because they have vaginas), so I wish she'd be in more stuff. I remember being excited about meeting Eve all grown up, but she turned out to be very disappointing. I didn't like the way the character was written, or the choice in actress. I guess they realized later that her existence was getting in the way a bit of Xena and Gabrielle's relationship, so they slowly pushed her into the background afterwards. We always think that an adult version of the hero's son or daughter is going to be great, but then the writers mess it up. Same thing happened with Connor in the show Angel.

If you recall the storyline as Xena and Gabrielle fought the gods, meanwhile secretly handing off Eve to Octavius, taking the vile and staging their death. Area swooped in and placed their bodies in a cave and sealed it off, thus altering their plans to meet up with Octavius and regain Eve. While they slept for 25 yrs on that cave, Octavius raised Eve as his own, thus becoming the Daughter of Rome. It may not be not the perfect story writing, but at least this makes more sense.

@@Kay2be2mr I don’t think the actress was bad, but they didn’t give her anything to work with. I also didn’t like how they portrayed Eve. I preferred Livia’s style more. Going from bloodthirsty warrior to cold turkey pacifist was terrible. And we’re expected (like the Amazon’s) to just forgive and forget that she murdered so many people. If she’d been any other character’s kid, she wouldn’t have been allowed to live. I will say though, I shipped Queen Varia with Eve/Livia. They were a striking couple.

Can’t speak as to Xena since I’ve only seen a handful of episodes, but I agree and disagree on Connor. He was pretty insufferable and was forced into plot lines during seasons three and four, but they course corrected and brought him back in a great way in season five and the Dark Horse comics.

Yeah, I hated the actress. She never pulled off the strong woman portrayal and overacted every scene. I laughed the first time I heard her go "I am Liviaaa!" in this very scene. Varia was a prime example of someone who pulled it off very well. The actress acted better and was muscular and thus believable in fighting scenes. Livia/Eve actress was way too skinny and fragile.

Great episode! I want a Xena limited series revival with Lucy and Renee. If male actors who're 20+ yrs older than Lucy can play/reprise action roles, then iconic women can as well. Sorry if this ruins it for you but most of those guys use STUNTDOUBLES, they're not doing most of their own stunts. Tom Cruise, yes, but studios don't want to risk injury to stars. Lucy had great Xena stuntdoubles who are STILL stuntdoubling action movies - Wonder Woman 1984, Thor, the new Avatar movie, so they're perfectly capable to stunt for her. Renee O'Connor (Gabrielle) did do a lot of her own stunts on XWP so I imagine she'd want to use a stuntdouble this time around. Representation isn't just for guys. Women make up over half the population now and fans want to reconnect with their female icons just like audiences want to with their male icons.

They wrote themselves into a corner writing in Lucy's pregnancy. Granted, they had limited options since the tricks they do to hide that in sitcoms and soap operas were less workable in an action show where she is one of two main characters. But once Xena had a kid they almost had to time skip like that because Xena and Gabrielle lugging around a baby was not going to work for more than a short time before it became a plot hindrance, not to mention made Xena look like a terrible mother for constantly putting her in danger. In truth the real mistake was probably not ending it with season 5. The Gods being killed off and/or depowered like they all more or less were was a fitting ending for the franchise, but they just kept going, now in a time period where most of the other fun elements of the show could not be used. I do think they didn't take full advantage of having Xena and Gabrielle deal with the changes from 25 years later, they did some but given they only had one season could have done more.

Never liked the Eve/Livia stuff although they were very good episodes on the 5th season finale. Bring Xena and Gabrielle back ! We miss them! Lucy and Renee are great!!!
