Perfect video Mid. I really enjoy your channel. What this all practically means is that you are not installing xfce4-goodies package by default when you install Arch, only xfce4? Right?
@midfingr9 жыл бұрын
+Vladimir Milenkovic Hi, Thank you! Yes. In the beginning, it's xfce4 only; adding from goodies as needed.

WOW that was a great video midfingr always enjoy watching learning a lot from you. I have a couple of questions did you still use the engrampa or no if so how do you get it working. If you don't use it then no worrys on explaing. The other is the wisker menu how do you know which colors to get to add to the gtkrc 2.0 since you already know by heart and had that saved in clip. How would i know or person running xfce theme what to do and what colors to match the theme. How did you get clipit on the panel and the two arrows on the panel think thats for network right how did you get that and clip. One last thing can you show how you would save your theme to git everything you have which theme a person is using. When u install fresh copy of xfce4 then how to grab it from terminal to have your theme. Like you did on the one arch install video Thanks for the video midfingr

how did you zoom the desktop at 0:34 ?
@midfingr9 жыл бұрын
+ahmed alamassi Hi, In xfce.... go to settings manager--> window manager tweaks; select accessibility (tab).. key used to grab and move windows: ... I used Shift. Then simply hold down the Shift key and mouse wheel up/down to zoom in/out.

What kind of minimum hardware requirements would you suggest using to run Arch Linux adequately for general use?
@cellone7109 жыл бұрын
+John Ratko Depends on Desktop Envrionment. An arch LXDE setup should run well on 15 year old hardware PCs.
@KowboyUSA9 жыл бұрын
nagius79 I have several. That's why I was asking. Guess I could just look up the system requirements to run arch XFCE. I suppose I'll have to assemble a more up to date tower to run the newer environments. It's been about 10 years since I've done anything like that. I'm a helluva lot more broke than I was 10 years ago, so was hopelessly hoping I could just upgrade some of my old hardware. lol

My Xfce desktop only uses 350MB of RAM while idle and maybe 1GB with browser and audacious playing. Arch is incredibly light compared to other distros never mind windows.

I have Xubuntu and would like to use Shotwell. But it seems that shotwell will only work in Gnome. Is there a way to change from xfce to gnome or should I just wipe xubuntu and install Mint/Ubuntu?
@hysenndregjoni8538 жыл бұрын
I may be wrong , but Shotwell seems to only be a software that is shipped with the Gnome DE ... It doesn't mean it requires Gnome to be set up on the computer you are using it in...Considering Xfce is built using GTK , just like Gnome , you probably don't need to install a lot of dependencies to get Shotwell working ... So if you don't have Shotwell already installed , just open a terminal and type : sudo apt-get -y install shotwell and then wait for it to finish.It should work...

lol your video really helped i am kind of new to Linux tried Ubuntu didn't like it much i just installed arch with xfce nice desktop environment but i realised i don't have log screen if i logout i go to full terminal or if reboot i need to log in from terminal and use startx to go to desktop environment. ..what could go wrong?
@midfingr9 жыл бұрын
+Mohammed El Ouahabi Hi, You can use something like lxdm via pacman, then: sudo systemctl enable lxdm ... after reboot, select the desktop you want as it defaults to lxde.

+midfingr thx works. .all i need now is a graphic driver for video card do you have a way to make it works i only able to use small resolution when i do pacman -Ss xf86-video i got list with installed drivers but i can't use more that l than 1024x768..i got ati card and thanks
@midfingr9 жыл бұрын
+Mohammed El Ouahabi Glad to read it works. Is the ATI card on a laptop or desktop? Also to install catalyst drivers, you may need the card's name. However, catalyst is not in the official pacman repos and needs a lot of configuring. I used to use catalyst-test from the AUR: aur.archlinux.org/packages/catalyst-test Here's a video, which may be out of date, but will give you an idea.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3fOeoOPhrKHqbM

In arch i not have that option in nvidia setting manager. But i not give up some dey i setiing all in my sony vaio laptop. Personal i hate dual gpu pc witch any linux distro.
