I miss seeing those old style call buttons and mechanical sounds when I went to the airport as a kid, now they replaced them :(

Mechanical sounds for ped lights are still common for Dutch traffic lights. (These traffic lights were produced in the Netherlands).

You think this is old school? Come to New York. You will see we are still using the light from the 80s without any sound. To be fair though, the reason they use mechanical it is more reliable and it could last much longer in comparison to electrical buzzer. speaker thus reducing maintenance cost. It also use much less energy to generate the same amplitude of sound wave. The rest of the traffic light is relatively modern. It is very good design imo. I've spent half of my life in Hong Kong and the other half in New York. I can assure you that the infrastructure in Hong Kong is much more advance when comparing to the United States as a whole.

Funny how Hong Kong pedestrian lights have the flashing green man phase, yet the traffic lights don't have the flashing amber phase, unlike the UK version.....

Sam Bee that’s because there is no need for an amber phase, an amber phase has basically the same purpose as a flashing green phase

@@greensprite6067 He's talking about a british pelican crossing, where it's that while the green man flashes, the traffic lights that cars use start blinking yellow, and that blinking yellow means once pedestrian traffic is clear, you can go, and you don't have to keep waiting until the light eventually switches back to green
