I love playing with stuff like this. It brings out the mad scientist in me. I cracked up when you put all that baking powder in the paint because I knew it would react. You had fun, and that's what it's all about.

Great tutorial, but just a tip: if you're using a glass, metal or plastic vase I'd recommend using a primer first, if you're using acrilic paint. There are primers for each kind of material. This way the paint will stick to the vase and it won't crack or come out later.

Unless you use DIY chalk/clay paint from Debi’s Design Diary. The clay really makes it stick to anything. Just clean well and if it’s really glossy I’d scuff sand it first using 220 grit.

It would help to know how those ingredients react. If you were making cookies, you'd use baking soda because it reacts with the water content and it expands to the sides. If you were baking a cake you'd use baking powder which is a stronger raising agent so when it reacts with water, the reaction is even faster and what it does is that elevates your mixture upwards, and because you used a new baking powder the reaction was instant !! I think you can try using expired baking powder where the reaction would be much milder. And cornstarch is just a thickening agent so made sense ! I love this trend but I don't think i've seen anyone say this things !
@Jennifer_Braden

Just so ya know: baking soda doesn’t react with water (it reacts with an acid like lemon or vinegar). Baking soda reacts with acids and heat.
@liannebiggar1557
@liannebiggar1557 3 жыл бұрын
@@Jennifer_Braden I was about to say this same thing. Baking powder is just baking soda combined with a powdered acid so it reacts with straight water - The powder and paint combo was probably reacting with the water in the paint and that’s why the texture was different and changing over time

That's because most people don't donate/throw away their things. You could still go to local markets and roadside shops for second hand items. It is the same concept as thrifting. You can easily find things for cheap in markets like Janpath in Delhi, Banjara Market in Gurgaon for furniture, they sell lots of thrifted items, we just don't know that as buyers. It's the same concept; here in the US they are just labeled as Thrift Stores.

Thank you for sharing and explaining the different techniques, had no idea this was a thing until I saw it done in one of your videos. Such a cool textured effect without the high cost of ceramics. Love the colors and shapes!! I may have to try this.

That metal one looks so cool! Like a lava rock or something, I know its not the desired effect but it's so awesome!

Thanks for sharing. I actually really liked the 2 that you said didn't go well for the different texture and look that you got from them as well.

Although I have been wanting to do this for about 3 months now...props to Megan Batoon, I have seriously been waiting for you to make your video of it for me to finally sit down and do it!!! My mom has been complaining daily about the vases in the backyard for months now, and I’m just like... “But if I painted them now, I won’t have all the inspiration and information I could actually have if I wait for Macenna’s Video!” I would be ecstatic if Lonefox did a video too :) Thank you for coming out with what I knew would be the most informational/every method of this DIY possible video!! My mom is grateful too :)
