the design looks very similar to their artist pro line, bummer that the screen is not a higher resolution, the price point is pretty solid

i love XP Pen - i have the 24" Studio - it's not the Pro, but it's the 2.5k/1440p version and it's awesome. I admit I use it more as a monitor than a drawing surface, but it's there when I need it. Very solid product - I think anyone who purchases this one (the 22 Plus) would be quite happy with their purchase if it's half as good as the one I have. Great video as always!

I have the 24incher as well, unfortunately they are not the best monitors depending on what you do. Low response rate with ghosting, the film causes the image to be less clear than it would be on a normal display. XP Pen's advertising shows it being used as a gaming monitor for example, which is a horrible use case for these displays. The cost cutting is definitely in the display itself. Would love to see an actual drawing display one of these day with the performance of an actual gaming monitor.

My two cents as a comic book artist who tested a lot of different screen tablets: big screens with low resolution like this one (and the base Cintiq 22 that Wacom sells) are TERRIBLE for linework. The problem with low pixel density is that you have to zoom a lot to have any kind of precision and that slows you down considerably =(. IMHO a fullhd resolution like this one is good on tablets of 13 inches and below. If you don't care about that (like you paint more than use lineart) then it's fine, if you use a lot of linework (like in comics) try to get at least a 2.5k resolution. If the tablet is 24+ inches I would strongly reccomend a 4k one.
@ideksams
@ideksams Жыл бұрын
Is it because the low res can't reveal if the lines are connecting well? Or rather sometimes the finest lines become invisble when zoomed out? 😨
@kostisk8914
@kostisk8914 Жыл бұрын
Good question. Would like to know why as well.@@ideksams
@IMKatar
@IMKatar Жыл бұрын
@@ideksams the problem is that if the pixels are so big and you zoom out the image, then many details simply disappear. For instance, it's impossible to distinguish fine hatched lines. Or, if you want to make a line thicker and you pass over it again, maybe the line is split with a space in between but you can't tell if you don't zoom in ☹️ Working while zoomed in is very bad because you can't look ad the whole picture, then you zoom put and you realize that the drawing looks weird or you couldn't apply your style to the image (because how the human hands-eye coordination works). I could go on, basically the low resolution densiti brings a lot of problems. Ihmo it's even more important than a bonded glass! I had a Cintiq 16 with full HD resolution, and I have a friend who works on a Cintiq 22 with the same resolution. Then last year I got a Huion pro 16 inches x 2.5k resolution and the difference in pixel densities is like night and day! I can work while looking at the whole picture while zomking in only for the extremely small details.
@fadillah6014

So basically same way as me when use phone, I need scrool so much just for getting good detail. Then 16 2nd pro was better option for me

Everything sounded good except the resolution. I'm sure it's fine but I have to say Id want 2k or 2.5k for that size of a screen. But I have to say that xp pen is starting to become quite interesting in my eyes.

1920x1080 resolution is fine for the best price to quality ratio. That's what XP Pen aimed for with this pen display.
@jeofthevirtuoussand
@jeofthevirtuoussand Жыл бұрын
@eddyalvaross2195 when the ppi is below or really close to 100 ppi . It is far too bothersome. 1080p is fine until 19.5-inch screens. Above that .. better have a 2k display. Also...., we are in 2023.. instead of pushing: " look at 16k levels of pression that won't even notice the difference with the 8k version🥴 " They should have kept the old pen design and given a 2k display instead. . SMH.🥸

Weird, for some reason it's priced at 609€ in their EU store, that's almost 30% higher. The rest of their products are usually a matched price across regions, with only slight variations. On the product itself... Everything seems to be improved compared to the previous generation but the 1080p resolution on that size shouldn't be a thing anymore. I like the general improvements XP pen brought to stylus accuracy, screen color accuracy and finally the move from plastic ag films to etched ag glass, but what they currently lack is some higher end products in the 22-27 inch range. At least QHD at 22+ inch screens, 95% or higher Adobe RGB coverage and maybe 75Hz refresh rate to compete Wacom with good but affordable products.

it's been really cool seeing XP Pen improve recently. I've had a hard time recommending XP Pen to people I know who are looking for something semi-professional, and in terms of pen quality for some time now it's been XP Pen -> Huion -> Wacom, but it feels like XP Pen are on a more level playing field with Huion now. curious how XP Pens newest pen handles tilt though, as that was one of their shortcomings in the past. more so than even wobble imho.

I've been doing some character designing from a writing perspective. I do audio and I've been playing with voices. A friend of mine drew out some sketches but doesn't seem interested in going further with it and I really want to make some shorts with these designs. I want to try to, at minimum, do some storyboarding and maybe a full animation. How is the learning curve for a brand new artist to the scene?
@Fourhoursleep
@Fourhoursleep Жыл бұрын
I donno if i trust xp pen as a brand anymore. My artist 22 2nd gen had 5 dead pixels on it after a few weeks of use, and i didn't like how often i had to replace the screen protector on it. The artist pro 16 i use now feels nice to work with and the screen protector lasts a really long time but its so rough it chews trough pen nibs like no ones business. What's worst even is that the screen sometimes glitches out, flickers or goes black . So while this video is really selling me on this 22 inch tablet I don't know if i dare try it.

I am still using my Cintiq 22 HD, and my iPad Pro third generation. If and when I should invest in another drawing display. I want it to have the touch features of the iPad Pro the pinch, and the zoom. That makes my iPad Pro ideal for my workflow, but the size is the issue with the iPad Pro. I am hoping that they come out with a larger iPad Pro. I would buy it in a minute, but if they do not, I will be in the market for a drawing display that has the pinch and zoom capabilities.

@@aarrgghh11 Thanks for your reply! Ironically I JUST cancelled my order for a 16 inch in exchange for the 22 inch... My biggest concern was having space for reference photos on the workspace since it's always an essential for me, but I'm guessing, do you use your second monitor for things like that? Also, by too large, does it seem to hurt your arm or take up too much space?
@ideksams

@@aarrgghh11Your English is great!! Don't worry about it!!! Thank you! And oh- yes I have one big monitor! Have you tried using your main monitor for references too or can it only mirror the tablet screen? 😯 Oh! I'm not sure how close to the screen I would get, but I know I draw for maaany hours lol! Using my very old intuous, my hand cramps with the small gestures if I draw long enough, and why I need to upgrade! However, I also wanted to be able to see more of the entire canvas while I was drawing since I tend to get stuck on details. Therefore I ended up looking into big screen tablets since I didn't know there were so many affordable ones now... It's always been my dream! Ahhh

@@aarrgghh11 Thank you so much for the detailed info, it does clear things up! Ahh right, I do know about that feature, I used to use SAI and I would open another window all the time just like that! Though I forgot you could drag windows that far like that in CSP. I feel like never open another window often enough since I would never focus on the whole composition. However I've learned how much better it is to do that (tho my social media doesn't show it, I've been drawing and my style is way different now LOL)! Thank you! :)

I'm surprised there was no mention of the newly included Vesa compatible backing. It's hard to believe this was a feature that wasn't included in their devices, and some of them don't even have legs. This, to me, is one of the most important inclusions that I hope they keep moving forward because the ergonomics of having to crane your neck and wrist to draw on what is essentially a wall surface is horrendous. Yes, there are "solutions" to this for these tablets, but none of them are very elegant. If or when they ever add the backing to some of their Pro Series they'll easily have my money.
