I'm very interested in using it for my Fujifilm camera since been holding off on getting a monitor and been really interested in the Sony Xperia 1 V with all your coverage. Thank you Juan, you're the only one to show the true capabilities of this phone, which I really appreciate. Didn't expect the external recording to work with non-Alpha cameras but this is awesome. I imagine future iterations being able to record RAW footage off of the camera. Not that I personally need it but why not go all out if they already market their phones with such niche functions anyway?

Huh. There is more here than I initially thought, just having video input is already great, but direct capture and all the settings make sense if the function is already there. Can you make such a video about output as well? I know Sony does not have a desktop mode, but it has video output and Android has some form of built-in desktop mode, even if half finished. Maybe with the Taskbar app together it can replace DeX? Can it use video output with the main display off?

It will be nice if Sony brings us a Xperia 1V Ultra Max Pro+ unlimited Power Megapickles Megazort SuperSaiyajin Edition, so we can have the best version of this smartphone. Ooooh, they bring the best version out. But didn't Split it in multiple versions and put all there effort in to the base model. Nice, but sadly the majority of customers needs Buzzwords to compensate for something.

Does this mean you could theoretically use this phone as a capture card? I'm imagining a situation where I get invited by companies to come record gameplay for an upcoming project. Instead of hauling my laptop and capture card with all the required cabling, I could in theory plug the capture card into the phone via USB-C to HDMI and record to the device?

Can this be achieved simply by screen recording the incoming content? That's for video only, but I know certain screen recording applications also capture audio.

You can literally do this with any usb c 3 equipped device. I have been using a cheap hdmi to usb c adapter and an app from play store called USB recorder and use my galaxy tab as a monitor. Xperia Pro had a more interesting implementation of adding a micro hdmi IN port so no adapter required. if sony really wanted to push their platform, they could have made a phone holder that plugs into their multi-interface hotshoe (that allows mics to connect without wires) on alpha cams and maybe uses pogo pins to transfer video feed directly to the phone without pesky wires.

Hi can you do a set up guide for this, showing the settings you have used to connect to a Lumix camera. Your video shows you used a GH5 and possibly a GH6 or G9, i have tried all 3 cameras and 4 HDMI coverters both 1080 and 4k and it will not connect with the Sony app. I have spoken to several Sony users who are surprised by your video claiming it will only connect to Sony cameras, please give us all instructions to prove them wrong.

It's not much of a setup guide. What I demoed was really cheap. I used a generic capture card like this one amzn.to/3QApCo0 And a USBA to USBC adapter to the Sony. It won't work with any capture card that requires a software interface, like my el gato, but the basic stuff has functioned like I showed here. That's only gonna top out at 1080/30p.

I have a doubt, I have a6100 and it has micro hdmi port. As you said in the video do we need a hdmi capture card or just an usb c to hdmi adapter, these both are different.

Need some advice please. I use a Sony A9ii. Just got my hands on a Xperia 5V and am trying to use it as a monitor. I may be using the wrong cable as no signal is coming through to the phone. Any hints from my fellow videographers on here?

Ooof. That I don't know. I've never shot on the A9ii. My first guess would be, that because it's a little older, it might not completely support the video out over a single cable that the XPERIA is looking for. Maybe follow up with TK Bay? He has more experience with Alphas than I do. I'm still a panasonic slob.

You might be using an HDMI adapter rather than a video capture card. That could be an issue. My Xperia 1 iv connects good with a7riii with type c cable and video capture card.

Oh are we not able to use a HDMI-USB C? Still doesn’t really matter I guess. Samsung phones that support Dex can do the same thing but the software setup is a little iffy. It seems like the Sony makes it easier to have a Single camera outdoor livestream.
