I know this video is 2 years old.. but I recently scored a max spec precision 5540 (a 15" version with a similar chassis, also the last one they made before the redesign) w/ an i9 9880H, quadro T2000, 4k touch screen.. for $350 you might think with a 4k screen and nvidia card it wouldn't work great with linux, but with how far the wayland video server has come I'm impressed how effortless everything just works

Another thing that I’ll add, you can find DELL XPS for 200$ or less (depending on model and condition it is in) and in poorer countries, paying 200$ (or less) is attainable, while 600$ to 800$ (especially for a student) might be too much to try and reach for.

You could also use a optical drive, burn the ISO to RW disk and install that way

Hey man great video, it inspired me to repurpose an old razer blade stealth I have. This is a big ask, but there is a lack of high quality opencore hackintosh videos on youtube. I just thought I would pitch it to you since you put a lot of effort in your videos. if you have the time to learn opemcore. I bet a tutorial video would pop off in this niche tech category.

Just hackintoshed my ASUS Vivobook Flip 14 (8th gen intel i5). The hardest part was getting the trackpad working, and it only took 3 attempts to pick the correct vodo kext. Wifi was easy as, and blutooth not much harder. Sound worked out of the gate with alcid=1. I actually own a macbook, so am only doing this for fun and laughs at the pub when my ASUS boots MacOS :)

How do you know if it's running too hot? I'm using Throttlestop on my M6800 because it get's very hot and has the fan running all the time if I don't. So I guess. repasting might be a good idea?

Yeah, I had similar symptoms - under Windows, the XPS was warm to the touch with fans running even on idle. Repasting is definitely a good idea especially on older machines like ours where it's likely degraded by now.

why did you use macOS Catalina and not macOS Big Sur or macOS Monterey?

I was unfortunately having issues under Big Sur/Monterey that would require a lot more time researching (plus probably moving to OpenCore) to fix, so I stayed under Catalina instead. Plus I personally prefer the Catalina UI compared to Big Sur so I didn't mind it 😂

It will if the card is natively supported, like some Broadcom cards. Other brands like Intel and it's respective kexts are a hit or miss.
