I have the Nreal Airs (original model) and I think they're exceptional. It really depends on your use case scenarios, though. An adapter is needed to be able to play any system with HDMI out. So if you have a Nintendo Switch you have to run it out of the dock to the adapter and then from the adapter out via USB-C to the glasses. It's not a very elegant solution. If you're only playing something from a phone or a tablet to not bother your partner in bed at night, it's much cleaner. Really it just comes down to what you're going to use them for. The video quality is very good in my opinion, but the audio, like Russ says, is lacking. So Bluetooth headphones or earbuds is a must.

Nice to see a review that doesn't completely dismiss these. Multiple other channels I follow have no interest in wearable displays like this and just don't seem to understand that there are legitimate and compelling use cases for them. My favorite use for them is just to sprawl out on the couch or bed while gaming. It's so nice to be able to play a game in complete comfort without having to hold a Switch or Steam Deck up to see it, which gets uncomfortable very quickly. This level of comfort with the added immersion makes this my favorite way to game. And for anyone who might say, "Well, you can do that same thing with a VR headset" ...no, not comfortably you can't. These glasses are practically weightless in comparison, and aren't closed in. They don't need fans to keep themselves or you cool (or keep themselves from fogging up), and they don't drain the battery of your Steam Deck any more than if you were just using the devices screen (they may even make the battery last a tad longer). I have the original Xreal Air glasses, and will happily get another pair of these or another brand later on when the features are a significant step up.

My problem with nreal/xreal is mainly the software. The glasses are literally useless as an ar device (which is what is suposed to be). They are great as an extra portable screen or to use it with dex in Samsung, but appart from that you can literally do nothing useful. And even worse, they have abandoned the nreal lights completely. All their original customers that bought the lights because they actually were ar glasses now have a very pretty paperweight. Even worse since now we even can't use dex, which was my main use of the glasses.

I have a competitor to these, and those light guards at the bottom id wager are less a bout blocking light to make it darker, and more about blocking the reflections you’ll get from your shirt and the area in front of your stomach / chest when using them. When using my glasses, in a bright room, if you are wearing bright colors, you will see it reflected in the optics that are meant to sent the screen to your eyes. Oh wow-didn’t realize that these were coming out. Picked up a pair of the original XReal Airs this past summer along with a Beam. Can confirm that the visual experience is pretty impressive, even on the original XReal Airs, but the Beam experience has been disappointing for me. Streaming media-one of the primary reasons I invested in the Beam-is a crap shoot and often doesn’t work over Air Play on my iPad or iPhone, your mileage may vary. The experience as a direct connect personal monitor with just the glasses, however-XReal Airs to Steam Deck, for example-is fantastic. I set my glasses to the Deck’s resolution-1280x800 so as not to have to fuss with any settings changes-and it’s still an incredible experience. All that said, they still feel like an expensive novelty most of the time, but a fun little toy none the less. Totally agree with Russ’ conclusion-waiting may be best, but if you have some extra cash burning a hole in your pocket, the glasses can be a fun way to experience your content and gaming, though I’d skip the Beam until they work out the kinks for media streaming.
@Boogie_the_cat Жыл бұрын
For that price, 1200 X 800 is disgusting gross dingus. At least, for a snobby PC gamer who thinks 1440p is the minimum tolerable rez for something that's practically touching your eyeballs. Sounds like *someone* is convincing themselves that they are happy with the expensive crappy.
@jimdoom2276 Жыл бұрын
How do you change the resolution of the glasses? Thanks.
@Bushidounohana Жыл бұрын
@@jimdoom2276 it’s not so much about altering the resolution on the glasses as it is simply changing the output resolution on the device that you’re using. So, on the Steam Deck, for example, I just make sure the game is running at 1280x800 instead of 1920x1080, within SteamOS settings and/or game settings. Think of the Airs as a monitor.
@Bushidounohana Жыл бұрын
@@Boogie_the_cat hahaha to each his or her own, my friend. Re-read my comment, though, I’m not particularly high on these (or any other) such glasses, nor am I implying any PC gaming snobbery. If I were such a snob, I probably wouldn’t be playing games on the Steam Deck in the first place, would I? Lowly frame rates and diminished settings seem contrary to the point of such snobbery, at which point higher resolution, expensive glasses will not make up the difference. For my use case, the Airs have some novelty as a way to magnify on-screen elements otherwise difficult to distinguish with aging eyes squinting at a handheld screen, but as you allude to, that’s a tough sell at the current price. As I said in my comment-these are “a fun little toy,” and “waiting may be best,” essentially I only recommend the glasses “if you have some extra cash burning a hole in your pocket.” Does that read like a series of justifications or more a sober, realistic assessment for someone who might be in the same situation? I suppose I lean on the allegedly good graces of my audience to make that determination, but as to my need for affirmation, I have made the purchase and couldn’t care less at this point whether it was wise or not. The money is spent and I don’t waste away time worrying over whether I should have or shouldn’t have … that’s an exercise better spent prior to purchase, don’t you think? All that said, I love the rhyme time at the end of your comment, well done!

The cables on these tend to wear out. Thankfully they're generic and replaceable, but I've gone through 8 or so cables for my Rokid Air since I got them earlier in the year. Over time the connection becomes worse and worse until finally it's near-impossible to get them to display anything. It seems USB-C isn't very robust when it comes to the connector having pressure on it, I guess the tiny pins inside must eventually stop bending back into shape even when I make a conscious effort to be very careful and avoid turning my head at all. It should speak volumes that I just keep buying more cables though, the lightweight HMD concept is very useful.
@justtiredthings Жыл бұрын
Can confirm. It's an extra expense you don't anticipate. And the replacement cables I've been able to find are a lot thicker and less flexible than the original and apply somewhat uncomfortable pressure behind my ear. The connection issue is one of the main reasons these really need to be wireless to be an essential product.

Thank you for confirming that they can be used with bluetooth earbuds.

I use my viture one's a tonne. I find that I use it more for watching youtube on the bus compared to gaming. You get in a real tangle with all the cables and it's a pain on the bus with a steam deck or whatever.

I got mine used for $230USD. I mainly use them on the train and I love it. It's a great additive when using a phone is terrible.

do they work well as a monitor replacement or is this just for movie watching and gaming? It would be cool to have 2-3 huge monitors in front of you, a huge space saver. But apart from being huge, monitors also need to look sharp, crisp, and clear.
@justtiredthings Жыл бұрын
I have the 1st gen, and yea, they work p well for that ( though there is a bit of tradeoff, given some ghosting and slight edge clarity issues)--certainly much better than something like the Quest 2. But that's only if you want 1 big monitor that moves with your head. Their software for multi-monitor head-tracking is really limiting (e.g. doesn't exist on Windows to my knowledge, and essentially only allows you to use browser windows on Android)

the upgrades for this model seem pretty awesome... regarding the improved audio, do you think it's good enough to use on a plane without using headphones, or will I still need headphones?

If you don't mind shit audio. Otherwise, why wouldn't you use a higher quality headset

Something I am wondering is: even though no money exchange hands, all opinions are your own, and they didn't see the review ahead of time - does that mean that they could still ask you to omit certain negative pieces of information about the product? Or is this a fully truthful and honest review? I only ask because it's been very difficult for me to find any honest reviews on KZbin about this product. Every review I've seen is a paid promotion by XREAL where the "review" is overwhelmingly positive and isn't giving me an honest, balanced opinion of the product - more rather it's an advertisement. Which makes me very suspicious of the product as a whole if the company has to pay everyone to say it's good.
@RetroGameCorps Жыл бұрын
Great questions, XREAL offered to sponsor/pay me for the review but had a series of "asks", which were topics they wanted me to discuss. I declined the payment and told them that because I make my videos for free, they won't have any editorial influence over my video. So I made the video independently of their typical process and they didn't see anything until the video released to the public. Here is a breakdown of how I make my product reviews: retrogamecorps.com/about/

@RetroGameCorps thanks for replying so quickly ! I appreciate your openness on this 🔥 As a tech enthusiast who's always on the look out for new gadgets it can be so tough these days to find "reviews" that aren't just biased paid-by-the-company promotions 😂

I literally just bought XReal Air glasses... On the plus side, these seem to be an incremental upgrade for something that works okay. The 120 Hz refresh is a straight upgrade, that'd be nice to have, but my biggest issue with the Air is something this doesn't address: peripheral vision. When I use them in AR desktop mode, I'm doing a lot more turning my head than I expected. I get it though, I understand why they have a very much front-only viewing angle. Adding peripheral vision would probably mean doubling the OLEDs and prisms, and doubling the price of the glasses, and I don't think I'd pay that much for them. Basically, if they'd come out with improved peripheral vision at a similar price I'd have flipped the table. I do love the Xreal Air 1s, and I'm sure anyone thinking about it will be happy with the 2s if they decide to get them.

I’ve been told that if you upgrade the firmware on the original Air glasses they now support 120Hz as well!

100% Agree! Not much upgrade on Air 2, also Viture's complete ecosystem make them much better than these similar glasses, although they copied the electrochromic film feature...
@sekiro18888 Жыл бұрын
Agree! Viture is just better in every aspect. I tried both and returned xreal’s glasses. Doesn't air 1 support 120hz already, which makes the glasses so hot and unwearable, what is the upgrade on air 2?

I have version 1 knowing they will improve, but I just got for dwelling into the air ecosystem and I'll probably wait to upgrade when there is significant enough changes. The one I'm waiting for if even possible is improved fov to even warrant that imax like experience they kept pushing.

Unless I didn't quite understand in your video, if I was to purchase the Xreal glasses, can I use them with my Xbox X without any adapters? I'm confused as to what the Xreal Beam does?

I have the Beam is it's pretty much a paperweight at the moment. It doesn't play apps that have DRM. For example Netflix will not work on this. Also Xreal has been saying for month that they will have native apps for it and still havent. Also over heting. The product overheats like crazy and the fan is very loud.

I’ve had a pair of Nreal Air glasses for about a year now, and they have been great with Steam Deck/ipad mini/(and recently) iPhone 15. I bought the Beam when it first came out and have used it a couple of times but I haven’t personally found the added functionality to be worth the hassle of an extra device to plug in. I also picked up a set of Viture glasses (which I didn’t like as much as Xreal) and the Viture dock (which worked great as a mobile battery and portable Switch dock). I’m not sure if I can justify another set of glasses but the electro chromatic dimming of the Pros does sound great.

About « equivalent of looking at 130in screen » part. I too do not how "they" calculated, but... The "impression" of how big the screen feels depends on a few factors. I know what I'm about to say, because I've been testing the TCL NXTWEAR S glasses. 1. Human field of view (not the glasses fov) 2. The distance between objects (within Human field of view) 3. The distance between YOU and the objects (within Human field of view) Let's say you're watching a movie and are doing so in front of, for example, your closets entrance. You may feel like you are viewing the movie on a 40in screen or lower. Now, let's say you have a workstation to the right of the closet and a library to the left of the closet. As you slowly move back, if both library and workstation are at the edge of human fov (120° hor.; 90° ver.) you'll feel like the screen is 120in (or a bit larger), even though the glasses "projection area size" remains the same. Why is that? Well, apparently, your brain can't scale "equally" three objects "projected" at you, if two of them are placed at equal distances between themselves and YOU, AND the "ar screen", as the third object), at the same time. The further you're away from the two objects, served as your "viewing cues", the bigger the screen will be "perceived". Try using ar glasses with two buildings in front of you. If, for example, the two buildings have a 1km distance between each other, and you're perpendicularly positioned to them, the screen will look and feel... quite insanely huge. I hope I have explained myself as "accurately" as possible.
@LuccaRPG Жыл бұрын
Eh, I'll wait for a next generation refresh. I mostly use them for the super big screen (I'd use AR but my one android device is a huge S9 ultra) and I find the screen bright enough already. By the way, if you got money to burn skip the Beam and get the Rokid Station instead. Even though they are for the Rokid AR glasses they work perfectly with the Airs!
@AiraDelasse Жыл бұрын
Why the Rokid Station over, well, just your phone? Or is there an actual benefit to getting the Rokid Station?
@LuccaRPG Жыл бұрын
You could use your phone, yeah, but it's basically like having a portable google TV/chromecast that's made just for AR glasses. Also has a battery that lasts 5 hours and requires no extra dongles.

Great Video Dude! I have the original NREAL glasses and I purchased prescription lenses for the little secondary glasses that were included with my original NREALs Do you know if I would be able to swap my prescription lenses that I currently use on the NREALS into the new XREAL pros? I can't seem to find the answer to that question anywhere. Thanks Scott
